[Event] Invasion!

Characters: OPEN to everyone!
Location: All over Death City
Rating: Various
Time: February 2nd
Description: Witches have invaded and are attacking the city!

The attack, when it comes, happens quickly enough that Death City would have been caught flat-footed had there been no prior warning, but it's not completely unexpected because of the city's heightened state of alarm the past day. Warning sirens start sounding to alert the citizens and guests the moment a dark, slow-moving mass out in the desert to the south-east of Death City is spotted by Shibusen sentries. There's even time for civilians to run and hide before the mass is identified as an army of what looks like decaying, shambling corpses. The city's defenders are slow to move, however; most of them are distracted and are having trouble dealing with the black blood in their bodies. While agents are gathering to head out to deal with the zombie threat, that's when the witches make their move.

Portals begin opening in the skies above the city, disgorging hideous familiars: bulbous spiders and leggy ants the size of dogs. They drop hundreds of feet down into the streets and alleyways of Death City, and scuttle off in search of victims. The spiders are poisonous and can spin copious amounts of web to capture their targets, the ants spit acid that cause agonizing, paralyzing pain. Their masters bear down on the city in a cloud of black shadows--massive ravens strong enough to carry off adult men. There are five witches, women on broomsticks, beautiful if not for their crazed grins and obvious glee at the chaos descending upon the city. At some unknown signal--maybe the cackling from a couple of them--they dive in concert and disappear into different areas of the city.

Their masterful plan has begun!

Megumi had finished cutting. She wiped and sanitized her hands with spray and brought out the needle and thread she needed for stitches. "Perhaps. But most people only have room for loving one in their hearts-- the past, or the present. If it comes down to such a case, the present is always what someone needs to have a firm grip on. In my time, too many are obsessed with the old Japan and the old ways of the samurai and daimyo, and they're still fighting or despairing. You cannot live your life facing backwards-- as a country, or as a person."

Threading her needle, she gathered up the skin she wanted to start joining and made her base stitch.

"How about in your time, what is life like in Tokyo so many years later? What do people do?"
shiromadoushi: (Sign: Thats why)

Bakura couldn't help but think of his father with that, hiding in the past and all but abandoning the present...

He shook his head slightly, pushing those thoughts away. "It's not too much different than here, really, only there isn't anything like this," he nodded at the chaos around them. "Only in Domino, people are a lot more into games, especially Duel Monsters."
megitsune: (surprised by all of you)

[personal profile] megitsune 2012-03-27 06:55 am (UTC)(link)
"Games?" Megumi repeated in disbelief. "Do you mean, as in gambling? How sad for our future."
shiromadoushi: (Serious - 01)

[personal profile] shiromadoushi 2012-03-27 02:59 pm (UTC)(link)
"No, no, not gambling! Other games, for fun!" Why did so many people think of gambling first....? "Things like chess, or shogi. Not things with wagers or anything like that." Not often anyway.
megitsune: (my what a violent woman)

"I find that hard to believe," Megumi clucked her tongue, gracefully sewing up her patient as smoothly as if she were frosting a cake. "People don't spend time on games that don't get them money-- at least, not in the part of Tokyo I'm from. Everyone's scrambling to feed themselves. You folk must be well-off to have so much leisure time," she pondered. "Perhaps family fortunes allow you to do so?"
shiromadoushi: (Small smile)

"Even the people who don't have family fortunes have more free time. Even Jounouchi-kun, who has to work part time to afford school, still has time for Duel Monsters." Though Bakura suspected it was largely because he didn't bother doing his homework or studying when they weren't all doing it as a group....

"It's a lot different now. A lot of change for the better."
megitsune: (writing prescription)

"I'll have to take your word for it, I suppose, since I can't go see it for myself," she acquiesced, and finished her last stitch. "There, I'm done."

She dabbed the stitches with a bit of disinfectant and then used a soft bandage to wrap it and protect the stitches from being pulled by the man's clothing. "He should be fine. I wish I had a rickshaw or something to bring him to the clinic to rest..."
shiromadoushi: (Cluelessly Innocent)

[personal profile] shiromadoushi 2012-03-30 04:16 pm (UTC)(link)
"Maybe we could carry him between us...? Maybe we could find something to use as a stretcher?"
megitsune: (walking on)

[personal profile] megitsune 2012-03-30 10:14 pm (UTC)(link)
"You wouldn't mind helping me do that?" she asked, surprised. Megumi wiped her hands with antiseptic and put away her tools, closed up her medical box. "I'd really prefer to do that, to get him to safety, but I can't carry him alone. Let's try to find something to use as a stretcher, Ryou-kun."

shiromadoushi: (Yo!)

[personal profile] shiromadoushi 2012-03-30 10:41 pm (UTC)(link)
Bakura nodded. "OK!"

It thankfully wasn't too hard to find a long enough section of wood, though he was a little worried where it had come from... ripped from one of the buildings that had been boarded up after the earthquake...? Possibly by someone seeking to hide in the building...

"Is this all right?" he asked, awkwardly balancing it with his left arm while his right hand held it.
megitsune: (i'll make you dinner)

[personal profile] megitsune 2012-03-30 11:31 pm (UTC)(link)
"Hm?" Megumi clip=clopped over to inspect what he was holding, then nodded approval. "Should work. It looks strong enough."

She looked around again, thinking to herself. This boy with his arm that didn't seem to be at one-hundred-percent and she herself who could barely open one of these metal fire doors they had here... they weren't going to get far carrying a grown man, even on a stretcher.

In the alley just beyond the corner, she spotted what looked (to her) like a horse's feeding trough, with wheels. "I wonder if we might use that," she said with a grin, pointing to the small wagon that had been left there by a construction crew. It appeared to have been used to transport cinder blocks out to repair earthquake damage. "If we bring it back after... it isn't stealing... is it?"
shiromadoushi: (Embarrassed laugh)

[personal profile] shiromadoushi 2012-03-31 01:51 am (UTC)(link)
"In a case like this, I think whomever's it is will understand," Bakura assured with a bit of a relieved smile. That looked like it would be a lot easier!
megitsune: (kitsune ears)

[personal profile] megitsune 2012-03-31 04:14 pm (UTC)(link)
"Oho, good boy. Let's borrow it, then," Megumi grinned mischievously, and she hurried over to wheel the little hand-truck over to their patient. "It isn't that we're lazy, it's that we need to get him there without dropping him."
shiromadoushi: (Small smile)

[personal profile] shiromadoushi 2012-03-31 06:47 pm (UTC)(link)
Bakura nodded. Nothing lazy about wanting to make sure someone didn't get dropped or spilled out into the road. "Did you want to get his legs while I lift his upper body?" he asked, moving over to where the man was laying.
megitsune: (a waltz you can't dance)

[personal profile] megitsune 2012-04-06 05:07 am (UTC)(link)
"Yes, that'll do," Megumi agreed, as if they were making arrangements for who might set the table or clean the house. She worked fast, but was not to have her calm shaken. "Ready to lift? On three. One, two, three."

Together they lifted, trying to move the unconscious man onto their makeshift gurney. It wasn't such a hard job with two, Megumi reflected with a bit of a smile.
