Description: Witches have invaded and are attacking the city!
The attack, when it comes, happens quickly enough that Death City would have been caught flat-footed had there been no prior warning, but it's not completely unexpected because of the city's heightened state of alarm the past day. Warning sirens start sounding to alert the citizens and guests the moment a dark, slow-moving mass out in the desert to the south-east of Death City is spotted by Shibusen sentries. There's even time for civilians to run and hide before the mass is identified as an army of what looks like decaying, shambling corpses. The city's defenders are slow to move, however; most of them are distracted and are having trouble dealing with the black blood in their bodies. While agents are gathering to head out to deal with the zombie threat, that's when the witches make their move.
Portals begin opening in the skies above the city, disgorging hideous familiars: bulbous spiders and leggy ants the size of dogs. They drop hundreds of feet down into the streets and alleyways of Death City, and scuttle off in search of victims. The spiders are poisonous and can spin copious amounts of web to capture their targets, the ants spit acid that cause agonizing, paralyzing pain. Their masters bear down on the city in a cloud of black shadows--massive ravens strong enough to carry off adult men. There are five witches, women on broomsticks, beautiful if not for their crazed grins and obvious glee at the chaos descending upon the city. At some unknown signal--maybe the cackling from a couple of them--they dive in concert and disappear into different areas of the city.
Their masterful plan has begun!

[But Kaoru's question makes her hesitate and her expression turns a little pained] ...Yeah. I did. [By her tone it's easy to guess it wasn't a good encounter.]

I'm sorry. But I believe you know that isn't who he really is, right? Still--I imagine you were--[it hurts her so much to even talk about Kenshin like that. because he's not frightening, he's so gentle--..is he powerful? yes. is his reputation for being feared unfounded? no. but is he more than that? yes. ]
A little frightened. That was..Kenshin from thirteen years ago. That was a role he took on himself so that the Meiji Era could come to our generation.

[She shakes her head] I think I was more scared for him. If he'd actually hurt me, he would never forgive himself. [She said some pretty awful things to him trying to get him to snap out of it] He'll probably still be hard on himself even though I got away. But this--infection is what made him crazy. It's not his fault, so I don't blame him or anything like that. I just hope he'll be okay.
[Rei reaches up to busy her hands with fixing Kaoru's hair a moment, giving the other a small smile. ] I suppose we'll have to be extra diligent with him though, won't we, after this? To make sure he knows we forgive him and that everything's alright. Even if we might have to beat him up a little to get through to him.
[There's a light laugh at that]

Yeah..that was the face of a hitokiri. [she's grateful she understands. hearing it, it just makes her relieved and frustrated at the same time. angry that Kenshin keeps bearing all of this from his past, angry that she can't wave her hand and fix it so it stops following him. the madness, the black blood--..making him relive that.
she doesn't realize tears are filling her eyes as she blinks rapidly, looking up at the hands going into her hair as she offers a nod, a wet laugh]
Y-Yes! I'll make sure Kenshin is alright, for sure! And Rei-san--thank you for understanding. [she blinks the tears back again]
Let's hit him..as many times as it takes, o-okay?

Of course. I get to hit him first, okay? One free shot. [Her eyes feel wet but she's not crying yet, pulling Kaoru into her arms for a fierce hug with a laugh] You're not alone, okay? We'll get through this together; I promise.
