Characters: Open to all Mission goers to Florence, Frankfurt, Prague and Vienna
Location: Florence, Frankfurt, Prague and Vienna
Rating: PG
Time: Jan 17, starts at about mid-morning
Description: Missions 151 and 152, crossposted to LJ

Florence
Florence had been immediately evacuated the moment Shibusen Florence recieved word from Death City about the danger to its population. Most of its citizenry had left, but the sentries, guards, and local militia (and mafia) had stayed to bravely defend the city. These were unfortunately the ones being affected by madness, to turn against each other with the same determination they had attempted to show their duty.

The streets of central Florence are plunged in chaos, with torches lit and some structures burning. Those who have managed to resist the madness to try to salvage the museums are hardpressed to defend themselves against those that have become crazy, but the light rain in the afternoon helps.

Frankfurt
It's cold and grey in Frankfurt but the streets are busy with activity. Germany has deployed its military to assist Shibusen Frankfurt in evacuating the people into shelters and taking down those that have begun to go mad. The problem is that even with their haste, it's still not enough, and they are becoming more overwhelmed by the hour. A number of makeshift forts and shelter are scattered throughout the city, requiring help to get through the crazed people outside. Kishin eggs in random areas are taking people down one by one in a frenzied eating craze.

Prague

The Prague agents are unlucky today with the weather, with the cold and chances of light snow. They're given coats or jackets before they leave Shibusen Prague, but are quickly urged on to the northwest part of the city. The heaviest of the violence and damage becomes concentrated there by afternoon, with people boarded up in buildings and kishin eggs preying on the people outside.

Vienna

It's snowing lightly in Vienna when the agents come in, and it seems that the situation there had gone from all right to downright crazy in the minute it took for the madness wavelength to sweep the city just an hour before. There is chaos as people run from murderous citizens and the police try to take them down. The prisons are already overflowing, some with people desperate to protect themselves from attack.

It doesn't take long before the first kishin eggs appear, people who accidentally kill others and eat their souls in madness.

"It is likely confused," was all she could guess. Of course, the confusion apparently didn't last long when it went after them. Selendis tensed, then swung the axe downwards when the human/kishin was just within range.

Much to her surprise, it was fast enough to duck around the attack and slam into her. Lacking any sort of offensive claws or anything similar, the kishin practically bounced off of her when she didn't go down under its charge. A bit anticlimactic, but it had hit hard enough to stun her for the moment.

Both Selendis and the Kishin recovered at the same time, sizing each other up. It was faster than she'd thought, but all she needed was another boost from Karkat to be faster.

Karkat had been caught off guard as well and failed to put up a shield in time. Not that he needed too, Selendis wasn't hurt, but he still grimaced as the blow stunned them both. Linz was still fresh enough in his mind that any hit getting through felt like a colossal screwup. "Shit," he muttered to himself. The thing was better than either of them gave it credit for.

If it was a boost she needed, it was a boost she got. Karkat was more than pissed off enough for both of them.

Selendis stepped forward at the same time the Kishin went in for another charge. She expected it to change tactics, to try and come at her from another angle, but it never got the chance thanks to Karkat.

She was used to precision and speed from her training, and combat only accelerated it. Resonation between a Weapon and a Meister, though, provided the means of accelerating her further. She took two steps and swung out at the Kishin, slicing it neatly in half just under the ribcage. For a moment, she just watched it bleed out into the street, before stepping over it and continuing on.

"The Madness here must give them an edge," she said, her tone tight. Underneath it, though, she was thankful for Karkat and pleased at their success, minor as it was.

"That makes sense. They were a lot worse when we were closer to their obnoxious shithive brainwave thing. You know, back in Europe." Not that he expected her to have forgotten. It was a little embarrassing that they were only just now hitting their stride again, nearly a month later, but this felt pretty good. Like they could really trust each other, take a little of their own back. Underneath the gruff front Karkat was putting up as usual, he felt just as pleased. Selendis was awesome, and they made a damn good team. This time, he was focused. The madness was still pulling at them both, but now it felt like something he could handle.

But it was no time to get distracted. There were still plenty of Kinshin around, and the air was filled with screams as the madness claimed more victims. Karkat was all business, nodding in the direction of the closest knot of chaos.

"Over there!"

She certainly hadn't forgotten, but it was probably better for them if they did mention it every once and awhile. Maybe it would be easier to act like it had never happened, except then they'd learn nothing from the experience.

Selendis started into a run when Karkat directed her attention, not even questioning it. Linz had been a nasty setback, and she was determined to make up for it in Vienna. Same as before, any of the humans with any wits left about them took off when they saw her coming. Hopefully they were running to safety, and her presence wasn't fueling their descent to madness. She would have to worry about it later.

The only one left behind was the kishin, which was further along in its transformation than the first one. It had a wicked set of teeth, already dripping with blood and ready for more.

"Oh yeah, you think you're such a badass?" Karkat's temper was up and flaring nicely as he addressed the Kinshin egg. In the reflection, his own teeth were bared in response to its display. "Try coming after something that's actually ready for you, we'll see who gets their horns ripped up and handed to them on a silver serving plateau with all the trimmings!"

This time, he was ready for the attack. Selendis didn't have to ask or even wait for that shot of battle rage, and he was poised to toss up the shield if they needed it.

Karkat's insults seemed to work the thing up into a frenzy. She had never been too sure about how aware kishin were to the world around them, outside of the madness that consumed them. Perhaps because of its recent descent, it could still comprehend what he was saying.

Either way, it came at them with a vengeance, though it lacked the speed of the first kishin. Gripping the axe handle with both hands, Selendis hauled back and swung, smashing the flat side of the axe against its head. That sent it staggering to the side, spraying blood and, much to her satisfaction, a few teeth.

It shook the blow off after only a short pause, shrieking and snarling at them as it lunged again. Its claws, she noticed, were a lot longer than they had been a moment ago. She lifted the axe to defend herself, and strike a fatal blow if the opportunity presented itself.

The impact of Selendis striking the Kinshin egg felt pretty damn good from Karkat's end, too. It still felt like every landed blow and dropped monster brought them closer to recovering their equilibrium, and even with the madness swirling around he felt confident.

And unlike most of them, this one seemed aware enough to react to the dumb stuff he was saying.

"Oh fuck, you look like of mad," Karkat taunted. The claws lengthening weren't lost on him, but he wasn't too worried. This one didn't seem too fast, they'd already injured it, and he still had a shield or two in him. "What's the matter, you cross-eyed troglodyte, you're only good in a fight against squishy, unarmed humans?"

Whatever rationality might have been left in the kishin was driven out by its rage. Maybe Karkat hit a nerve, or it was just fully succumbing to the madness, but now it was just an easy target.

Selendis took two steps back from its charge, then swung again, this time neatly separating the kishin's head from its body. The momentum sent it tumbling past her feet, until it collapsed and bled out onto the fresh snow. Selendis didn't move on as quickly this time, taking a moment to get their bearings, and collect the soul. She had been in something of a hurry to keep going before, but it had gotten relatively quiet in this area.

Whether more kishin had moved on or not, she didn't know. The snow was falling heavier, and was probably dampening the sounds of the battle. Nothing they could do about the weather, besides stay on high alert.
