Description: Karkat is moving. Gai wants to cheer up his perpetually grumpy friend. Anyone can have seen Gai's post on the network and drop by.



It didn't take many stealth skills at all to plan this party. The filters on the devices made things very easy, and with the labor as greatly divided as it was Gai didn't even have to haul a whole bunch of stuff to where Karkat would be moving in.

Picking the lock was the work of moments and then Gai was in the apartment, starting to set up. Soon others would join him to help prepare, and hopefully Karkat would be slow enough in returning that he would only come when everything was ready. Gai would hope, at least.

Do you not have surprise parties in your world? [How to explain, how to explain...] People... at least, those of my world, like to know that someone is thinking about them. To have someone go to the effort to keep it quiet and secretly gather others for them means more, often. I hope it goes over the same way, after.

We do not. [They weren't big on surprises. At all.] We do not keep such secrets from one another, nor could we. If I care for someone, they will know through our psionic link that is the Khala, where we may share our emotions. I know humans are incapable of this, but I did not realize they viewed such secrecy as an act of kindness.

Oh. I forgot about the way you talk and think. [Gai considers for a moment.] Some secrecy is not kind. But when planning a party it is. And then if you have classified information, [he focuses on the color white to keep that out of mind,] that must stay quiet as well. Most other information is made to be shared.

All things should be shared, and all things that are hidden are found out before long - among my people, at least. I will remember, however, that this sort of secrecy is not meant to be destructive. Thank you for explaining it to me, Maito Gai.

Hidden things do have a way of being found out! And often it is best to have most things in the open. But yes! It is socailly encouraged to plan parties for people secretly because then they suddenly get a reminder of how they matter. And you are welcome, Selendis!
