((OOC: I'm taking a guess here, but I imagine if Sin was rampaging all over the world, having such a labor intensive crop like rice would be pretty damn impossible. Even if Spira did have a lot of water.))

Well, there's a lot of natural disasters in Spira. Or were. If rice is something that needs a lot of time to grow, there's no way we could grow it.

Most of Spira is pretty tropical so we fished a lot and cultivated trees with fruit. For anything else, any food plant that could grow quickly is the norm. The best is a nice heated potato with butter. With a few spices thrown on.
