"I'm not an idiot," Sasuke almost growled. He'd been around enough drop outs to know what it sounded like.

"Tch." He scowled, turning away.

Sasuke would have rolled his eyes, were he in the position to do so. It was pretty obvious the conversation was over, but Sasuke had nothing left to say if the guy was keen on following this path. After a moment, he leaned back and tried to force his body to relax. Maybe it would ease up the thundering ache in his head.

"...Worthless, huh," he said aloud after a few moments, sounding more contemplative than anything else. Hadn't he sworn to go down this road, no matter what? Sell his dignity to the military no matter what humiliation he got from it, or what he might be forced to do?

Could anything happening here really be more important than restoring Al?

"...Yeah, maybe."

Maybe things here weren't as different as he'd thought. He glanced back at Sasuke.

"Oi, you never told me what happened to you."

Sasuke was willing to go to any means to get his revenge, and if they'd been the sharing type, it could have even been something he could have commiserated with Edward over. As it stood, Sasuke took to ignoring him until it was obvious Edward was addressing him. Even then, he waited a moment before responding, voice stiff, but drawled in a way that made it sound he was trying to wave off the injury. Still, his hand lifted, fingers brushing over the bandages covering his right eye. "It's something to do with my weapon."

Cute. Honestly, there was no way Ed had been this much of a brat when he was Sasuke's age, whatever that was.

"Your weapon? What do you mean?"

"It's based off of my eye technique," Sasuke said, as though annoyed to have to explain. He wasn't fond of revealing his new abilities, it felt wrong in his mouth, like telling an opponent exactly how your jutsu worked before taking them down. And while part of him knew he'd probably never be fighting the people here that way, it still made him uncomfortable. "Using it must have been more strain than I expected."

But it had only been simple, whatever he'd done, like seeing chakra. It was the most base of the Sharingan techniques. So why was he having this sort of reaction? There were stories, ensuing blindness when using the advanced form of the kekkei genkai- but this? It was unsettling. Sasuke sincerely hoped there was something he was missing.

...Strange. From what he'd seen with Ling and Lenalee, heard from others - it wasn't supposed to hurt.

"Are you sure you were resonating well with your partner?"

The chance that it could be something other than his own ability, though he thought it could be slim, was something Sasuke jumped on immediately. He couldn't stand the thought that he'd slowly go blind just from something as simple as seeing chakra. And where would it leave his weapon, hell, his meister if he couldn't use his eyes anymore? His chin lifted, turning slightly towards Edward again. He and Sara had been arguing at the time, none of the party had been impressed with his recklessness.

"Could that cause it?"

"Maybe," Ed replied, thinking it over. "They say trying to resonate with just anyone can be a bad idea, and that you can get burned. So it's possible that if you weren't resonating, it caused some kind of backlash."

Sasuke frowned. But they had been resonating, he was sure of it. He didn't experience the blinding pain he did when Naruto had picked him up as a weapon that one time. Maybe their connection had been weakened by the state of mind they'd both been in. "Maybe." He conceded thoughtfully. "Though, we'd trained beforehand."

"How much?"

He knew that a lot of partnerships had been born out of necessity, which wouldn't have offered very much time for practice.

"Enough," He scowled. As though Sasuke would do anything without some sort of plan beforehand. He'd been partnered with Sara even before the talk of this mission had come up.

Sasuke was fairly certain his glare would have more effect if he could actually use his eyes to do it, but as it stood he tried to show just how displeased he was with the turn of his mouth. "I wouldn't have gone with him if I knew it would get messed up, dumbass."

Okay, getting into a petty bickering match wasn't going to do any good. He grumbled a little, letting out a breath.

"You were right."

Hopefully Sasuke gets what he's actually talking about, because he doesn't really want to go into their earlier argument with him beyond that.

The change of topics made Sasuke arch an eyebrow, which he immediately regretted. His head was aching, and he lifted one hand, gingerly laying his palm over his bandaged eyes as though it would do something to dissuade the pain. He knew he was right, but what was interesting was the fact that Edward had suddenly decided to agree with him. Maybe hope wasn't completely lost for this guy. "I know," He said, matter of fact, almost calm compared to his previous statement.

Ed didn't pursue it any further than that, leaning back on his pillows.
