Gaara nodded, his eyelids drooping. He was very tired. But then, he'd lost a lot of blood. Even with the IV replenishing his body's fluids, it would take awhile for him to recover fully. "Will you stay with me?" he asked quietly.

"I will." It was quiet and reassuring, and Lee didn't move to pull his hand back. It felt strange to him to have the gesture he'd impulsively made before returned, but he remembered how it felt to be where Gaara was now. Gai-sensei had done the same thing for him then, staying at his side and smiling when everyone else spoke in whispers just outside the corner of his vision. Thankfully Gaara wasn't that badly injured, but still. It was frightening to be alone when injured. Especially in a strange city.

Maybe what was odd wasn't the desire to not be alone, but that Gaara seemed to want him specifically there. He'd woken up calling out Lee's name. It had to be this world, Lee decided. After all, everything depended on bonding closely with another person. It made sense. Maybe it was better to just not question it. They were friends, and partners. It was natural for Gaara to want him there.

Still, as the sun slowly rose in the sky, Lee couldn't help but find it odd that he was sitting at the Kazekage's bedside, with Gaara's fingers still curled around his.

Tassadar was aware of his need to reflect on the previous battle, but he wished to check on the health of his allies before doing just that. From what he understood from Watson, there was no risk of death to either of them any longer, but it was something he still wanted to discover himself.

The templar worked his way through the clinic until he discovered the area the two were located in. He stepped through the curtains, the action being slightly more difficult than he should have, and sighted the pair no far from him. The gestures between the two went over the warrior's notice as his intense gaze regarded Lee before shifting over to land on Gaara.

"Doctor John Watson informs me to the improvement of your health." He murmured curiously within their minds.

Gaara blinked, surfacing from his light doze at the sound of Tassadar's voice in his head. Lee was still beside him, he saw. He'd kept his promise to stay close.

Gaara turned his head to see Tassadar standing by the bedside. He was so tall that his head nearly touched the ceiling, and Gaara wondered if it was awkward for him to maneuver around indoors. "Yes, my wound's been treated." Dr. John Watson, he thought. That must have been the man who healed him, though Gaara hadn't had a chance to speak to him; at the time, it had been all he could do just to cling to consciousness. "I don't know how much longer I'll be in the hospital, but hopefully I should be able to resume training soon."

"He said that Gaara should be healing for about a week," Lee said, still pitching his voice low to keep from disturbing the others. It was strange to hear Tassadar in his mind, but the more he spoke with the strange man, the more natural it became. "And I was only scratched." He ignored the bandages on his arm with aplomb. Really, he would've already taken them off, but he had a feeling that someone would notice and then they'd get serious about those two days of rest.

"Are you and Nataku-san okay?" Lee asked.

There was some level of relief felt within when he heard of their condition. One week was a considerable length of time, and the Protoss warrior felt some level of responsibility to what had happened. He had separated from the other pair where they should have approached the situation as a strong unit instead.

While there was nothing that could be done for the previous battle, Tassadar knew that he would make certain such an error did not happen again.

"It pleases me to hear such news," He murmured while inclining his head, "Once your health has recovered, perhaps it would be wise for us to begin training as a unit."

Tassadar showed no reaction to Lee's question despite all that had happened after their departure. What had happened would have done so regardless of their presence, and until he'd had time to meditate on the situation, the templar would keep his silence.

"Nataku sustained a considerable amount of damage, but should recover within a small number of days," the templar informed the pair before adding, "The wounds my body sustained were only superficial and will be healed within the day."

"I see." Gaara recalled seeing Nataku injured during the battle, though he'd been too focused on fighting to gauge the extent of the damage. Though he hadn't been consciously worried about it, a knot seemed to loosen inside him when Tassadar spoke those words. "You fought well," he said. "Both of you. I would be glad to train with you."

"It is good to heal that you will both recover quickly," Lee said. "I am sorry that we were not there to prevent his further injury." It'd sat uneasily on Lee, waiting in the makeshift clinic while he knew that his allies were on the field. Being a weapon as a whole sat uneasily on him. Lee wasn't a passive person, and he didn't have the benefit of partial transformation or being able to move on his own. He was completely dependent on a partner to be able to fight.

He would get used to it, though. He had to. Lee had seen how his own doubts affected their ability to fight. Having his allies get injured again wasn't an option, even as the Chuunin knew that it would likely happen again. "I look forward to training together," Lee said, "And to fighting together again in the future."

"The fault is not yours to shoulder," the templar said in response. He held no level of blame towards the injuries sustained after their departure. This was a war, after all, and so long as they survived to continue the battle, then that was all that truly mattered. "This should be considered an experience for us all to learn from."

Future training together should limit any potential injuries sustained, and learning to work as one would ultimately benefit them all. "As do I. You both display much potential on the battlefield," The fact that they both seemed receptive to the notion was pleasing, and he allowed for such emotions to travel through his voice as he spoke, "Now that we have experienced part of what we are up against, it shall make it partially easier to anticipate what could unfold in the future."

Gaara nodded. "The next time we go up against those creatures, I'll be prepared. And we'll be stronger, as well." And next time, he vowed, he would protect Lee. The fact that Lee's injuries were minor didn't matter; that he had been hurt at all was unacceptable. His hand, still holding Lee's, tightened its grip.

Lee nodded in agreement to Tassadar's statement. "They were different than what I expected," Lee said. "I have never fought anything like those before." Knowing what kishin were and seeing them with his own eyes had been two entirely different things. And, of course, the method of fighting had been completely outside of his experience.

When Gaara squeezed his fingers, Lee looked down, his eyes widening. He'd been distracted by Tassadar entering and the conversation- enough so that he'd forgotten that Gaara was still holding onto his hand. Which, now that someone else was there, seemed even more awkward than it had before. Not that there was any reason for it to be awkward, and- yeah. Lee gently extracted his hand, trying to ignore the sudden heat in his cheeks.
