The barn that was the clinic had thankfully been spared any major damage, and apart from its furniture and supplies in disarray, it seemed to function without much difficulty. There was the pervading stench of chemical in the air due to broken bottles of medicine, but the open windows would soon deal with that. More importantly, the clinic was ready for its slew of patients, and bustled with its business more than ever.

"I shall keep an eye in case-!" He startled at the hug, honestly not expecting it. For a moment his hand flounder awkwardly. What was it with the children and showing him spontaneous affection? After a moment he lowers his arms and rests his hand upon her shoulders before she let go.

There is no smile on his lips but his eyes do hold a rather obvious hint of one, "I do believe my Watson is teaching you too well, Miss Hargreaves."

Mary laughed a bit, putting her hands on her hips. "I'm sure it is because he needs my help making sure that you are taking care of yourself!" She kept smiling as she said it, only partially serious.

She lets her hands fall to her side, "You'll just have to start teaching me things too, so I can bother Uncle John.

That managed to draw a rather short chuckle from him. Indeed, it would be rather fair to give Watson another pair of eyes to notice things.

"I may have to keep on my toes then. With two mother hens running about the flat."

He is mulling her suggestion over very seriously however. While he can not see her personality melding well with the darker underworld of a detective. A keen insight in the medical field would not be unappreciated.

He only couldn't see it because he didn't know how well she could actually deal with the darker parts of life. She already has had tastes of it, and her dislike of people who hurt others just made her want to take them down all the more strongly.

"I'll make sure you don't have a chance!" she said, grinning at him.

He still holds some Victorian ideals. A little girl should not be involved in darker lots in life. Of course, women do tend to surprise him. He expects that much from Mary.

"That has the small ring of a challenge, my dear."

Mary smiled mischievously, "I would call it that if I thought you could give me a challenge in this regard, Mister Holmes.

Holmes blinked in surprise before letting out a soft, but real, laugh. "My dear girl. I believe I truly do need to pull you from your mentor."

Mary just laughs at that, "Perhaps, but then I would just be learning from you, and I am sure Watson would end up feeling just the same, as I would be teasing him!"

"I am fairly certain he could handle that." A little crooked smirk. Yes, Watson could easily handle anything even two of them could dish out.

"It would be a challenge for him."

"We need to keep him on his toes, don't we?" Mary smiles brightly at Sherlock.
