and if you go chasing rabbits and you know you're going to fall [CLOSED]
Characters: Genesis Rhapsodos and Miles Edgeworth
Location: Chad
Rating: PG-13 because helloooooo violence and total grossness.
Time: May 23
Description: Team Red Hot Sexy invades Chad and must rid the place of large icky disgusting maggots - and look gorgeous while doing it.
It had not taken them long to find the big insects, and to come to the conclusion that their spit was most likely not going to be a pleasant experience if they found themselves on the receiving end of it. Perhaps it was more fitting to say that the big insects had found them first, as Genesis and Edgeworth hadn't needed to go deep into the underground tunnels where the maggots lived and stirred up the terrain.
To Edgeworth, this was essentially a mission to dispatch creatures capable of arousing one of his fears - a fear of earthquakes. Those maggots' tunnels were making the land susceptible to collapse and he and his partner had to help get rid of them. While it was one way to conquer his fear and previous missions had exposed him to caves and the world beneath the soil, it was definitely going to take more to truly banish the constant, nagging anxiety that seemed to whisper into his ear whenever he took one step away from one of the tunnel entrances - always one step away from the safer, more open world outside. It showed in the way his eyes sometimes flicked upward to the tunnel ceiling as though expecting it to suddenly crumble, or how he would suddenly glance at his feet, as if he distrusted the firmness of the ground beneath them.
One maggot facing the duo reared up, and expelled a large and nasty-looking blob. Edgeworth neatly dodged it and didn't even watch it splatter onto the wall. Focusing on the matter at hand, he stepped forward quickly and with a yell, sliced the maggot's head off with the Rapier. Despite the initial adrenaline rush and confidence boost that came with that one kill, the Meister had to work hard to not think of the fact that they were fighting in tunnels that weakened the terrain above and...
No. He pressed forward, concentrating on keeping his resonance with Genesis blazing, not wanting to lose to a bunch of disgusting insects. This was no time to let his fears get the best of him.

No. He pressed forward, concentrating on keeping his resonance with Genesis blazing, not wanting to lose to a bunch of disgusting insects. This was no time to let his fears get the best of him.

As always, Genesis made sure to play his part as the commander in a battle. While Edgeworth was the one handling him, he still had a long way to become the kind of fighter Genesis is used to working with. The SOLDIER made sure to keep Edgeworth's fears in check and serve as an extra set of senses to help them through their mission.
Lately, though, Genesis had been a little more open to how confident he was in his Meister's abilities-- especially after the one encounter with Anri Sonohara. Seeing Edgeworth expertly keep the situation under control boosted the SOLDIER's respect for him-- and in turn strengthened the way they resonated. If Edgeworth paid close attention, Rapier was definitely lighter this time around. And it was easier to get a good flame going.
That flame came in handy as the maggots emitted a shrill sound upon seeing the impending danger coming towards them.

Edgeworth had noticed that the Rapier, despite being two inches longer than he was tall, was lighter nowadays; he had to maintain that because it was a good sign, and because he could not risk suddenly dropping the large sword in the middle of battle if it overwhelmed him, or at least getting distracted by the weight. He narrowed his eyes when the maggots screeched their challenge, standing his ground and not stepping away.
Concentrating as best as he could, he focused on the battle instead of his fears, pouring as much power as he possibly could into their resonance and willing the blade to burst into flames. As he waited for the Rapier to glow and flare up, Edgeworth raised the Weapon in a guard position, watching their enemies, preparing for his next move.

When Genesis sensed that impending danger, he sought out his bond with Edgeworth, knowing that the need to do something before they could be attacked.
Edgeworth! Resonance!

They couldn't dodge poison forever; even if they could dodge each projectile, that could potentially exhaust them.
"Stand down!" Edgeworth yelled, sensing his ability in his words as they were directed toward the maggots. Two froze instantly, but one continued to fight against the command. "Hold it! I said stand down!" Motionless targets would easily be cut down or burned, whichever killed them first. For now, Edgeworth stayed where he was, just using his Meister ability for now.

"What the--" Genesis gasped at the sudden fire that came out of nowhere before tugging Edgeworth through their resonance. "We need to take this flailing one down first before it takes us down with it! Come on!"
Thankfully, it only happened to one of them. Genesis could only imagine the disastrous effect if all three of them were set on fire.

Edgeworth was now closer to the two maggots he had successfully commanded to stay still; not a good position considering his earlier decision, as the one on fire had been the maggot that had tried to attack him. Snarling, he let out his frustration on one of the hapless creatures that had obeyed his orders, beheading it with a swift swipe of the Rapier. The other was already beginning to move again, desperately fighting against his order.
And the one on fire was already hot on their trail. It had to go down first, so Edgeworth took the risk and ran toward the burning maggot, ignoring his throbbing shoulder.

But despite this, another reason to Genesis' concern over Edgeworth is that his mind was a precious thing. It was this mind that made them a formidable partnership, and at the same time, it kept him under control despite being a potentially destructive weapon.
Instead of letting his frustration and concern be known, though, Genesis instead channeled it into the power of his blade to further amplify Edgeworth's power. The Rapier blazed up just then, giving the blade a little added power to take down the maggot rushing towards them.

The burning maggot reared up and bucked like a horse out of control, desperately trying to extinguish the fire but at the same time not about to give up its part of the fight. It spat another poisonous projectile but it missed and was too far off the mark that Edgeworth didn't even need to dodge - although he stopped and ducked anyway. Right after that he sprinted forward and slashed at the maggot. It twisted away and wailed as Edgeworth dealt a second, more lethal strike.
The creature crumpled to the ground, sizzling and rapidly slipping away as Edgeworth returned to the third maggot, which by now had fully recovered.

Genesis smirked from within the blade, all too satisfied with how they were doing so far. It seems that this mission was definitely going to be a success, with how well Edgeworth was performing on the field. Despite not exactly being unstoppable, he was becoming a formidable force on the field, able to handle his blade and fire with grace.
The last maggot now began to charge at them, as if aware of what they had done to his comrades. Genesis felt well aware, though, that this blind anger was sure to be his downfall. His actions were too easy to read, and with the right movements, his demise would surely be inevitable.

And in that same fluid motion, he whirled around and brought the Rapier blade down onto the maggot's neck - or at least, where its neck would theoretically be. It howled in pain and spat poison indiscriminately, but with Edgeworth at its side and not in front of it, he was out of range. As the maggot tried to turn, it found itself decapitated in two more swift and savage strikes.
Right after that, Edgeworth leaned against the nearest cave wall, breathing hard. Now that the threats had been dispatched, his mind was beginning to wander into fear territory. They were still underground, which was still not as safe as being above the ground...

"Let's get out of here."
He had learned from their last trials underground that this was one of the weaknesses his partner had. The sooner they were out of the place, the better.
On edge...PFFFFFT
Edgeworth stood up straight and tried to calm himself, nodding in agreement and briefly clenching his hands into fists now that he wasn't carrying a broadsword. Then he strode out toward the cave entrance as quickly as he could, not even glancing over his shoulder to see if Genesis would follow. Just outside, he stopped to wait, keeping his hands in his pockets.
|D omg I only noticed that now.
"Are you alright?"
It had to happen okay
"Are you injured?"

"That's something that I should be asking you, really-- what with the way you threw yourself against the cave wall earlier. Maybe one day I should get you gauntlets or pauldrons."

Mission End?
With that said, Genesis walked ahead of his Meister to find the mirror that would lead them back to the city.
