[ EVENT: So long and thank you for all the fish ]

Characters: Everyone in Death City
Location: Death City
Rating: G
Time: October 8th and onwards
Description: It's time to say goodbye

A day after Medusa's defeat, Shibusen makes an announcement on the network: BREW is acting up again but instead of bringing new people in, it has created a portal.

It's in the Kishin Chamber, available to anyone who wants to go through it. Anyone who looks into it will see the place they came from, frozen in time. The moment you step through everything resumes and, maybe you'll forget or maybe you won't. Either way, there's no need to hurry right now. Shibusen assures all of you they will keep a sharp eye on BREW's energy readings and tell you the moment anything changes. For now, the portal is stable so take all the time you need to say goodbye and settle everything before you go.

[Edgeworth relaxes not long afterward, and reaches up to rest a hand on Genesis' back. It isn't a hug, but it's close, and he is no longer just frozen in place.]

I will do whatever I can in my power to never forget you, or what you have done. [It's his way of saying he'll miss Genesis as well.] I am greatly indebted to you, Genesis. [And he doesn't move away or break away from the hug.]

And I, you, partner. I can't imagine the way I am now without all that time I've fought alongside you.

[And with that, he lets go of him and steps away. The dogs are still clamoring for attention, though. But Genesis makes no move to call them back yet. He knows that Edgeworth is family to them and they'll miss him, too. It's just right that they get a chance to say goodbye too before the prosecutor leaves.]

[Edgeworth steps back as well, and when he finally realizes that the dogs want attention from him too, he half-kneels to pet them, scratch them behind the ears one last time, stroke their fur...and remember that they are in good hands. Genesis' hands. Edgeworth would miss these dogs too, but he had another at home, and they would be well cared for.]

Neither can I. I trust that you'll care for the dogs when I'm gone. [It's not a question. It's a statement, because he wholeheartedly believes Genesis will do well as a dog owner.]

I will.

[He moves to beckon the dogs back, then he looks at the prosecutor before him. Saying goodbye was very difficult, especially to someone who has been such a great part of life in Death City. Edgeworth was more than just a man who fought alongside him. They were like brothers, looking out for each other even in the smallest of gestures.]

Live a good life on the other side, partner.

[He will miss calling the other man that.]

I am certain you have a good life ahead of you here, as well.

[After standing up again, he looks at the dogs and Genesis, almost longingly, as if he wants to change his mind at the last minute and decide to live with them. But he doesn't. Instead, he gives them a last smile, wordlessly wishing them all the best in their life ahead in Death City.

Then, without another word, he turns away, pursing his lips when he feels his lower lip tremble slightly, and moves forward, back into the life he had left behind, the quieter life he had sorely missed.]
