EVENT: To Defeat Fear Itself

Description: It's time to take out the Witches' machine.



In order to combat the witch's machine, Shibusen has brought along more agents with the Calming Wavelength. They can't entirely banish that skin-crawling feeling the Witch's machine produces and the closer you get to where the witches are keeping the machine, the worse it gets.

It won't be as bad as what happened in Death City, but it's not exactly going to be a cakewalk either. In addition to that, a large section of what used to be the city of Lucerne is covered by a solid black half-sphere that oozes large amounts of Madness. A left over from Shibusen's failure to defend the city back in December and probably part of the reason why the witches chose this city.

You have your work cut out for you trying to deal with the Kishin Eggs prowling the area as well as the witch's familiars, which consists of a mix of giant lizards and giant praying mantises.

The machine is almost dangerously close to the black mass, but with courage and a partner you can rely on, it's not impossible to make it there.

Miss Rosalia, were you aware that bears are very fast runners? They can even outrun a racehorse at a short distance.

[As if to demonstrate, the grizzly charged towards the group, knocking over the second kishin egg.]

Really? Wow...

[She didn't know that and watched in amazement how fast the bear took down the second egg. Good animals!]

Yes. However, they don't have much endurance so they can't continue for longer distances. And bears can run downhill despite myths to the contrary.

[Yes, the animals were being quite efficient. Another swipe of the tiger's paw and the first kishin egg was no more. Good timing because more were coming.]

... Someone said bears can't run downhill?

[That doesn't make sense to her. With the first egg down and more coming, she tells the tiger to get ready. Were they going to need another animal?]

Some misinformed people believe so. And that bears can't climb trees but that's another myth.

[Two more kishin eggs were coming but little smoke was coming out of the incense burner.]

I suppose we'll have to concentrate on maintaining our current pets. I'm not sure if I can summon another right now.

[Well, the tiger was ready... and the bear was almost done with his opponent.]

We can do it. I'm sure... [She's going to remain positive!]

[The kishin eggs were drawing closer, these dressed as clowns, the type that would likely give people nightmares with their bloody polka dotted costumes and enormous painted faces.]

Let's have our tiger greet them while the bear finishes up with their friend.

[bloodinbloom]

[... Oh gosh, those were creepy, but Rosalia wasn't going to run away and leave the mirror vulnerable.]

Okay! Tiger, there's a few more coming this way! Don't let them get any closer!

[It almost looked like some twisted circus act the way the tiger rose up onto its hind legs to try to knock the kishin egg down. Only to have the monstrous clown try to stretch its jaws open over the tiger's head. The tiger swiped at the clown's throat but it was clearly having trouble now.]

Miss Rosalia, be prepared to summon another creature if necessary.

[A fair amount of smoke had gathered in the air around them by now but not as much yet as they had used for the previous animals.]

Oh no...!

[This wasn't good. She was prepared to create more creatures to help the tiger... but also thinking of a flock of birds. Probably not a good thing, but she didn't want to see the tiger get its head bitten off even if it was smoke too.]

[The poor tiger was now being ganged up on by the two clown-like kishin eggs. The virus was infecting them where the tiger scratched but it could still use a hand.]

[Or rather a beak or a paw. The smoke condensed, forming into a small flock of crows. The bear had also finished off its previous opponent.]

It seems we'll have to teach those clowns not to mistreat animals.

[bloodinbloom]

[The murder of crows would do. She quickly had them go assist the tiger against its opponents. Once the bear was able to attack again, she directed it towards the kishin eggs too.]

That's right. Leave them alone!

[The birds flew to the tiger's side and pecked at the clowns. The bear also charged their way but the tiger was just too damaged, starting to fade away.]

We'll have to focus on the bear and birds for now.

[With the tiger gone, more smoke was slowly curling out of the incense burner but it would take time before they could form something significant.]

Oh no!

[The tiger could stay, but it really had done it's best. Frowning, she nods. There were still the other animals.]

I can do that...!

[She would concentrate on them and let the smoke build up again for another animal. Go bear! And go crows! They could do it!]

[The birds distracted the clowns by pecking at their eyes. As they flailed their arms to try to drive them away, it left the bear with an excellent chance to attack.]

Perhaps, we should collect the souls of those first two creatures while these clowns are busy. It might help boost my energy.

[He was starting to tire and the smoke was curling out rather slowly.]

Oh, right. Those could help.

[Looking over at the fight to keep the bear and birds going, she made her way over to the souls. Once it looked like things were fine, she quickly raced for the souls, grabbing one and giving it to the incense burner as she headed for the other.]

[Fortunately, it was simple to absorb the souls as an incense burner. The filigree lid could be lifted and the sphere placed inside as if it were a piece of incense. As the creature's soul energy mingled with his own, his tiredness lessened and he began to produce smoke at a faster rate, refreshed as if he had been offered tea and sweets in his natural form.]

[Hopping over to the second soul, she grabs it and too, gives it over to Count D before turning back to the Kishin eggs and their animals. There's more smoke to use, but she wanted to focus on these ones and give D a little more time to recover.]

[The bear and the crows were making progress on the kishin eggs although a couple of the birds had fallen to the flailing of the clowns.]

[But the second soul gave another boost and there was soon a large cloud of smoke again.]

I believe we should be able to create another animal now.

[bloodinbloom]

Woah!

[That was a lot of smoke, Blinking, she considered what kind of animal to go for that would help them.]

Uh... do you think we can make an elephant?

[loveanddreams]

An elephant? We can try but we'll both have to concentrate...

[The bear and tiger hadn't been nearly as large as a fully grown elephant. But perhaps, they could manage a small one. Smoke began to crowd together to form a body.]

I'll do my best.

[If it didn't work, well, there were other animals. But for now, she was focusing on making an elephant. Oh, a small elephant? Okay, she could try that too.]

[loveanddreams]

[The elephant that formed was about as tall as Rosalia, not a baby but not an adult either. Still, it was sizable enough to do some damage to the kishin eggs. A good thing since the birds faded away and the bear seemed to be tiring too. The kishin eggs had taken a beating too but were still stubbornly hanging on even with the virus.]

Let's have our new friend help out the bear...

[Wow, it's a cute elephant. Not as big as elephants are supposed to be she figures, but it will do the job.]

Right... Go help fight against the kishin eggs! We need to keep them all away from the mirror!

[Like the bear, the elephant couldn't run for long but it quickly made its way over to the kishin eggs, swinging its trunk at one of the clowns. They were already quite a mess, mauled by the bear.]

It shouldn't be much longer now...
