[OPEN] In Black & White
Characters: Butlers Ramza, Kanji, Naoto and YOU!
Location: Bloody Butler Cafe
Rating: Varies. This will mostly be completely silly.
Time: June 19th, All Day
Description: New faces among the butlers!? Seems like one or two of them owes a couple of favors. Take a break from your Gala preparations and grab some lunch or coffee, and a little company...
Nestled away in Death City were partner cafes, one Maid and one Butler not far from each other. With BREW inviting and dismissing, the staff frequently changed, disappointing and yet enticing the clientele who missed their favorites but looked forward to new faces and an all new favorite.
The decor was what you could expect from the Bloody Butler, modestly lit and appearing for all the world like a dining room in a fancy mansion, tables and comfortable chairs set up for singles or groups to come together and enjoy a little break from the day. The paintings on the walls were various plays on the glamorous life, but if you looked closely some of them looked like the late Shinigami had placed himself in famous works of art, like the Mona Lisa with a skull mask among other whimsical works.
But among the paintings, fresh and fragrant flowers in vases lining the walls and in centerpieces at each table, glittering chandeliers and the light and lofty mood-setting music playing over the speakers were well-dressed individuals moving along from table to table, stopping to chat. Most sat with the visitors in rapt attention, chatting away. The menu fare comprised of light and sensible meals, or more specifically things that can be picked up with a fork or spoon by the butlers and fed to you if you request it, and rich, sinful desserts that can be treated just the same.
It all begins with a warm greeting the moment each customer steps in, for it's customary to treat each visitor like royalty.
[ooc: Don't forget to tag yourself in! This is also open for Sugata, who just found work at the Bloody Butler alongside Ramza, to make a thread as well if they'd like. Butlers will each make an thread for themselves, and will attend to each visitor who tags into their thread or comes in to poke fun at their well-dressed friend. Can't pick? Well, you can stop in for lunch now and dinner later. Nobody'll bat an eyelash for your sudden interest~]

Kanji rubbed the back of his head. "The Shinigami's the God of Death, but he wants the world safe. He even changed his appearance so he wouldn't scare nobody. When he puts names on his Wanted list, puts missions up on the board, it ain't just for shits n' giggles, or because they're Witches. These are people who hunt humans for their souls, spread the Madness flowing all around the world. These're people who ain't turnin' back, and people ya can't just walk up to n' tell 'em to stop what they do."
He paused. She was his boss... so maybe he could confess to something. "These ain't just people who you can turn in to the cops, neither. I sat in a cage in the Grand Canyon and couldn't do shit but watch n' listen as the Witches there fed the prisoners trapped with me to the kishin eggs they made, wanted to make stronger for whatever the next step in their plan is."
His jaw tightened. "You can't be reasonable with 'em! Not with this world's version of Witches. They're messed up here!"

She sighed heavily as she looked at him. Perhaps, it was a good thing that witches couldn't cry.
"...Even if you're angry about what they did to you, you can't really mean that. Not just a witch but killing anyone... How is that any better than what you claim these witches do? Kanji, believe me, you don't want to do it."
She still thought back to that hot summer day in Jarod with regret sometimes...

"But I didn't wanna get thrown into this world, neither, or fight in a goddamned war. If peace talks worked, the war woulda been over hundreds of years ago. If I don't do what I'm doin'... people will die. The world's gonna drown in this Madness shit."
His jaw clenched again, and he looked at the table. "Two of my best friends died here because of all this, damn it! I can't lose anybody else... not if I can train up with Naoto and fight back, make her a Deathscythe. I fight for them... and I fight for everybody else. If I don't, then I'll have to bury someone else, and I just can't go through it again!"
no subject
"Two of your friends died? You mean from home?" She took a deep breath and tried to think of what to say. "I'm sorry, Kanji. I understand wanting to protect people. But..." It was terrible that he had lost friends but she still felt like she should dissuade him from this idea of killing a witch.
She sighed. "Maybe, we should talk somewhere else..."
The stares were becoming uncomfortable and even a little hostile as people whispered to their companions about that witch sympathizer the delinquent butler was yelling at.

But... little did she know, too. She wasn't there to see Yosuke's body in the morgue, or picking his bones from the ashes. While he wasn't there when little Nanako-chan died, her soul eaten, her grave was still there in the yard. Then there was Dojima, who'd died -twice- here. If he were to be honest, he'd lost four people from home, but he wasn't about to give a sob story.
"...Forget it," he conceded, looking away.
"Y'wanna talk about it, we can talk at the shop or somethin'. Not here. I gotta finish up this shift. I didn't mean ta yell."
no subject
She nodded as he dropped the subject. But the situation had become too awkward with all the staring customers. She doubted she could have gotten through dinner now without choking on something else and opened her purse, rummaging through it.
"I think I'd better leave." Tossing a ten dollar bill on the table, she stood up.
no subject
"Ain't gonna stop ya if y'wanna go, but... don't feel like y'can't talk to me about stuff, y'know? You're pretty quiet most of the time, and as somebody who had a lot to hide, you're actin' a helluva lot like I did."
He looked down, then back up.
"I mean, I ain't just your tailor. I'm a friend, yeah?"
no subject
Lily tensed a bit at his observation, fingers closing more tightly around her purse. "...I'm not hiding anything," she protested although her behavior likely said otherwise. Maybe, if they had been back in San Francisco, she could have admitted her secret but not here.
"And yes, you're a friend." So, she had to keep him from making a mistake like this.
"I'll see you tomorrow." With a small nod, she backed away from the table, turning to go.
