Description: After failing her first mission due to not knowing how to swim, Di figures it's about time she learn.

[The Disciple tried to be as pacifistic as possible, but at the same time she always considered herself a skilled fighter. She took pride in being competent and ready to stave off any dangers should they occur, so the failure of her first partnered mission had been a bit of a blow to her ego. The fact that it mainly occurred because she did not know how to swim doubled it, so she realized it was high time she stop putting off learning how to.

Di knew it was a silly fear of hers. It's not that she was afraid of water in itself but...well, perhaps there really was no reason other than being raised by a cat that created such an aversion to deep waters. Di, with her impeccable memory, couldn't even recall any point in which she began to be afraid, or even encountered the ocean when her lusus was still alive. Was it simply seeing the large white guardian running to get out of the rain that gave her such an imprint?

Who knows. In the end, perhaps it doesn't matter because she was left with this feeling of anxiety whenever she was near any deep bodies of water. Even with all the shouting and laughter that resonated around the pool area whenever she looked at the pool it just filled her with discomfort. Right now she was seated on the edge of the shallow end, looking in. She had asked Signless if he could come with her, to teach her what he knew.

Well, she would have to jump in soon. Just give her a minute.

[ most sane trolls don't even make it a habit to be near water. more specifically, most trolls don't make it a habit to be near the ocean. sea dwellers are rather vicious, even if they are fewer in number. thus swimming isn't a necessary skillset. again, for most. Signless has always been different than most, though. being on his own, navigating through all sorts of terrain on Alternia, has expanded the necessary skills exponentially. swimming, or at least being able to float, had become almost urgent, what with the bodies of water that he periodically had to cross.

thus it comes as a little surprise that Di asks him for this favor. she is not overly fond of any sort of water, he knows. swimming and getting her near large bodies of water usually ended up in a few new scratches and just cranky unwariness. that doesn't mean he is going to turn her down. oh no. just the opposite. he really does want to help her get over her fear.

this is why Signless doesn't necessarily push her into the water. nope.

but that doesn't stop him from making his way to her, already in the water. most certainly doesn't stop him from taking a mouth full of water when she isn't paying attention. and nothing is going to stop him from spitting it at her as soon as he is within range. ]

[Honestly, Di should have expected something like this. The two were always playing around and teasing each other and well. Her little water aversion is an easy target--much like she loves to tease him about his love of sweet things.

As Di was looking elsewhere she wasn't expecting to suddenly have a small jet of water coming her way. It isn't much but it still makes her jump a little and she fixes Signless with a big pout.]

If you think you're getting away with that, think again. [And then she...tries to lean in as much as she can to make a grab for him, without actually getting into the water]

[ is there some laughing? of course there is some laughing. ]

You would have to come after me first.

[ is he drifting out of reach? of course he is drifting out of reach. ]

[Of course there is. It makes the corners of her mouth turn ever so slightly up but the pout returns when she swims out of her reach.

Whelp.

It's now or never. She's still in the shallow end so it really wouldn't be all that different from when she bathed in ponds back on Alternia, right? Right.

With a small degree of hesitation in, Di lowers herself into the pool]

Oh that's cold! [It felt very different when it was just her leg and not her hips. Now that she's in she sets Signless with a very determined look and starts clumsily walking towards him]

Only because of the hot, arid air, dear one.

[ he is being sneaky about this. for every step forward she takes, he drifts one back. the goal here is to get her used to the water first. then they will work on actual techniques. ]

[She waded forward, holding her arms up above the water. She's not unaware of what is happening here so once the waters begin to reach her hips her progress slows and she seems less certain about catching him. Once she is immersed waist deep she stops completely.

This was about as far as she had ever willingly gone. She couldn't stop now though, how was she to learn if she stayed in depths where she could still easily stand? She could get past this.

She. Might just need some help. She holds her hands out towards Signless giving him a pitiful look.]

[ does she have to give him that look? that one that makes his will break. she is so out of her element and Signless just has to take pity on her.

by pity, he means that he holds his hands out to her. ]

Don't look at the water. Just listen to the sound of my voice.

[It's a look that has gotten Di out of a number of many situations, and has gotten her a number of things she probably didn't really need. She grasps his hands tightly as if they were life savers (which in her mind, they really are) and while her grip is strong she seems to relax a little.]

Sorry. [Her expression is mildly embarrassed. She knew she was being silly but. Well, old habits died hard, she supposed. She nods, heeding his words and fixes his gaze, solely on his face. It's a face she knows well, one she loves, one that always brings her comfort, and even know is making her less anxious]

Why are you apologizing. There is nothing to be sorry for.

[ he'll take her hands. time to get used to the water, Di. Signless will not go more than waist deep. he knows she's afraid. before he can teach her anything, she must become accustomed to it. learn not to fear it. so first they are just going to walk around. ]

[Oh Signless. You always know the right words to say. She smiles and nods, following after him and keeping her eyes fixed on him.]

I think at this rate I'll be ready to show those kishin eggs a thing or two in...oh about three, four sweeps maybe.

[At least she could still joke]

Oh... You're that optimistic, are you? Tsk... Better not break that spirit of yours then.

[ and he can still tease. ]

[....what a jerk. Not that Di actually minds. At the same time she is trying to look properly peeved, she is trying (and failing) not to laugh.]

I'll blame the teacher if I don't make it by then.

Could you really blame a face such as this?

[ giving you his best smile, Di. can you really stay angry at that? ]

[She pulled her hands out of his and lifted it to cup his face. She pulled it down so she could touch her forehead to his and pretend to scrutinize him.]

Well you certainly have very lovely eyes. And a very cute nose. And adorable cheeks [which she now took the liberty of giving a pinch. Her eyes crinkled in mirth and she nuzzled him.]

No, I guess I can't.

[ Signlesss chuckles, pressing a kiss to her forehead. ]

Now... Look at your progress and how far you've come.

[ while not in the deeper parts of the water... they are not anywhere near the edges. take that, dear one. ]

[Di blinked at him and then looked around them. Instinctively her grip on him tightened when she saw how far away from the poolside they were, but then they loosened somewhat.]

Trickster.

[Her hands felt to his forearms and she inched a bit closer for safety, but she looked a lot more at ease than she did before.]

What have I said you employ a lot before? Oh, yes, distracting charms.

Well, that is good to hear. Otherwise I might just be heartbroken.

[She's trying to not think to much about how far away from the edges they are. Kankri is right here, she knows if need he'll help her keep afloat. She worries more about bringing *him* down with her.]

So I guess now we go, ah, deeper?

No. It isn't necessary to go deeper. We're going to head towards the edge and work from there.

[Disciple wasn't going to protest against that. While she seemed much more comfortable than she was before, that was mostly just because Signless was there.]

Yes, Teacher.

[That's a small wink you are getting, Signless.]

Now there is something I haven't heard in ages.

[ splashes Di a little before making an escape towards the edge of the pool. ]

[Yoooou. She once again begins to follow him, this time less nervous and more determined. She tries to give him a splash back.]

Well it seems like there are some things you can still teach me. I was purrty certain the pupil had bested the teacher by this point.

If that were the case, you would be able to swim right now, no?

[ he is going to get so much shit later. ]

Oh, I don't know. I'm sure there are things I can still teach you, as well. [This is accompanied by a not so innocent smile as she draws closer to him, tiptoeing her way over and holding her arms out above the water awkwardly.]

[ a smile that he doesn't trust. what are you up to... ]

Arms in water, dear.

[Just be glad you are in public, Signless. The smile turns smug at his wariness and she slowly lowers her arms in the water.]

Is something the matter? You seem uncertain now. Don't tell me you are starting to become anxious in the water.

[ shakes his head, brow raised. ]

The water hardly makes me nervous. There are simply some times that I do not know if you were really raised by a purrbeast. Sometimes I think it must have been a vixen.

[That brings a laugh out of Di]

Whatever gives you that idea?

[When she reaches him at the edge, she envelopes him in a tight hug and presses a quick kiss to his cheek. Before pulling away, she very softly whispered near his ear]

I suppose we can find out for certain once we get back home. [With that she lets go of him and pulls away, giving him a bright smile and wide-eyed look.]

[ Signless is fixing her with a look. then looks off to the side, bored. ]

It seems as though you don't want to learn how to at least float... Other things seem to be occupying what space that's meant to store all this new information.

[Aww, Signless.] You know I do, hon, I'm just teasing. But alright, I'll behave. Promise.

[ his own lips quirk a bit. teasing is an artform. ]

All right. Come here and place your hands on the edge.

[Well, we can't all be masters can we?

She placed her hands on the edge as instructed and looked up at him, awaiting further instructions.]
