Description: After finally being permitted out of the hospital’s quarantine Eren has nothing better to do than


a) Run in front of a car

b) Look like a suicidal idiot on a wall

c) Stare at everybody who’s not Caucasian white or has a non-standard hair-color during training time.

d) Do all of the above with predictable consequences.

I cannot say for sure. [given how vague of an explanation "circumstance" is, but he's the last one that should be pressing people about things they'd rather not get into.] But it is likely. I had thought I was dead at first, but it was apparent fairly early on that this is a much kinder world than mine was, even accounting for the war.

[It takes him a moment to untangle the meaning behind Kaworu's words. When he does he tenses visibly, though.]

What happened to you? [More importantly; What war?]

I died, in the world I came from.

[he'd actually meant the war here, with the witches. but the one back home wasn't very nice either.]

[Eren's eyes turn wide for a moment before narrowing with suspicion. There aren't many people who can survive dying and as far as he knows none of them is good news.]

You died? [It comes out a bit sharper than intended to.]

[while not staying dead will indeed become a habit for him in the future, that really isn't the issue here. he looks appropriately apologetic, though, already used to people being discomforted by the idea.]

It happens sometimes. BREW can bring people from any point in time in their own worlds, even after their death. Here, I am just as alive as you, but if I am ever sent home, then I suppose I will just return to nothing.

[Interestingly enough Eren looks as he's ready to jump into his face and start punching him for a second before he has himself back under control and just nods stiffly with a mildly pained look that reads 'headache' all over it.]

Really? That's hard to believe. [The wonders of this new world were all but forgotten in face of this new ...information.]

[that's...not really the kind of face people normally make when hearing about this. he's not really worried though, especially given his meister ability, so he simply smiles.]

I could give you the details of my death, if you really do not believe me, but I doubt you really want that.

"I'd actually like to hear them. [As if to show that their conversation has started threading into dangerous territory Eren's hand has slipped into a pose that looks dangerously as if he's reaching for a weapon (which he doesn't carry).]

I do not think you do. The details are certainly more gruesome than you are expecting.

[you don't know how weird it really is till he tries to bite you]

Try me. I'm a soldier. I've seen my fair share of gruesome deaths. [helped with some of them, too]

The war in my world was fought with the Evangelion units -- more or less enormous humanoid robots. I was crushed in Unit 01's hand, and decapitated by the resulting pressure.

[will just casually leave out shinji's part in all that given last time it got out takuto went on a punching spree.]

[Neither 'robots' nor 'evangelion' tell him anything, but 'enormous humanoids' sure does.

Eren relaxes visibly as he grimaces with a slight apologetic note on his face.]

Oh. So that's it? That must have sucked. Sorry for you that that happened. [Despite his words he still has a healthy dose of wariness for the other one.]

[he can't quite puzzle that one out, wanting so badly to hear the details and only relaxing afterwards. but it's hardly the first time humans have perplexed him.]

It was over quickly. And I am here now, correct? There may be a war here as well, but this place is a paradise compared to where I came from. I am happy here.

[he pretty much exudes calm and contentedness, and from a normal person that might be all good stuff. but combined with his odd, almost sickly appearance and his often unsettling manner, it's not that strange at all that people are wary of him.]

Yeah. [He frowns because as logical as that sounds it also sounds quite touched in the head. Dead people usually don't go around merrily talking about how things are better now.]

Is this really a different world..?

[most dead people aren't kaworu.]

I think it is. Though it would not be difficult to believe it really is an afterlife of some sort, given the general obsession with death.

[It'd be pretty worrisome if most people were Kaworu. bad habits, man. you should lay off the dying]

I think I'd rather avoid experiencing the afterlife for another while, thanks. [He glances up at the sun which returns his look with a grin. This whole situation is giving him a headache like no other.]

Say, is there really no way to get back to where we were before? [It comes out as a whine.]

[hahaha no way man he's got an eternity of time loops and dying ahead of him]

Sometimes BREW sends people home, but there is no clear understanding of what causes it to happen. It seems entirely random, really. Beyond that, the only solution seems to be to win the war.

[everylastone]

BREW. That's the thing that 'brought us here', right? [Say yes and he might run off to plot how to get and destroy that thing.]

Mm. I cannot claim to understand how it works, but I suppose I owe it my life.

[good luck with that.]

[That makes him pause for a moment.] Will you die if something happens to it?

[diedforyoursins]

There is no way of knowing. Perhaps if it is destroyed, everyone will be sent home automatically and I will cease to exist. Or perhaps destroying it will strand us all here forever and ensure that I am never sent home.

[it's probably a good thing if he inadvertently guilts you out of trying anything. you're more likely to break every bone in your hand than actually ever damage it if you punched the thing or something.]

[That gets Eren's frown to deepen in thought for exactly 2,5 seconds before he shrugs is shoulders.]

Whatever. If we don't try to do anything about it we won't get away from here for sure. [Don't ask when 'I' turned into 'we' here.]

[the corner of his lips quirks upward slightly at that "we". even knowing they were most likely always going to be on opposite sides of the whole "staying or going" debate.]

The surest way to speed along one's return is to help the war end sooner.

I can't do that.


No offense, but I really don't have the time to fight somebody else's fights. They are fighting just against other people, right? Why can't they just end it with one big strike or make some sort of compromise if both sides are too weak to do something like that? [Moderation. He's good at it.]

It is not against other people. The Witches are monsters who want only for destruction. There is no hope of compromise, and they are too strong to be defeated so easily.

If your concern is pressing matters in your own world, then at the very least, you can relax. Time does not pass for us in our own worlds while we are here. Whenever you are sent home, for whatever reason, it will be to the same moment you left from.
