Description: Welcome to Death City!



BREW's at it again. After powering up, giving energy readings on the night of the 5th that alerted Shibusen to new arrivals, they turn now to volunteers to assist in giving the newcomers the information and supplies they need.

Perhaps you're one of the ones who woke up in the Kishin Chamber on the morning of the 6th. Perhaps you live in Casualty Communal and were woken up by equipment transporting strange x-ray machines to rest in front of the building, prepared to scan the fresh meat and determine which are Meisters and which are Weapons.

The sun is laughing high in the sky as temperatures soar to 110 degrees F. The air wobbles in the distance, and many citizens are drinking plenty of iced tea and lemonade to cool down. One group of children has popped open a fire hydrant and are playing in the spraying water before the police arrive to give them trouble.

No doubt the new arrivals are confused... let's give them a warm welcome, shall we? But not too warm- stay hydrated and cool, everyone!

And new guys? Welcome to the desert.

I think I'll be fine.. I mean, yeah, I'm new, but.. [ There's another moment of hesitation where he just decides to admit it, letting his head hang a little as if it's a shorter version of a bow. ]

I guess they must've taken my money when they brought me here, I can't find my wallet anymore.

They? You mean the folks at the school and that BREW contraption of theirs? That's weird. It likes to muck with time and different dimensions but I've never heard of it making someone's wallet disappear before. [The only particularly notable thing of hers that had ever vanished was her ceremonial dagger.]

Oh, but even if you had it, the people here use this strange currency called Death Dollars.

W-.. wait, what kinda weird name is that?! "Death Dollars"? That just sounds omnious, like some kinda gang's name! [ Is it really worth freaking out over, Josuke.. even if it's just momentarily. ] I guess I wouldn't have money for a meal either way then though, I've never even heard of that money before.

[ Siiigh. ]

Guess I'm just screwed over no matter what.

Well, the people here seem kind of obsessed with death. [Wait until he walks into the grocery store and sees how many brands use 'Death' in their names and the skull stickers on all the fruit!]

But if you ended up in this world because of that cotton-pickin' contraption, didn't the people who greeted you give you one of those smartphones? You should be able to show it to the cashier at the grocery store and the school will pay for your food.

[ At this rate he's never going to eat anything, he doesn't trust it.. Someone else will have to go shopping with him or it's doomed. ]

Really?! They'll pay for me?! [ He missed half of the intro talks since he was too busy freaking out over being here now.. ] So I don't have to go and pay anything myself? Damn, that's cool!

[Strange. Didn't whoever passed out the communicators tell him? But then a while back she ran into a couple of folks who didn't know if they were Meisters or Weapons either. Maybe, the folks in charge of the tours are slipping...]

[A nod.] That's right. The school will pay for necessities like food. Basic clothes, too, at some of the shops in the mall. [Although she wasn't sure if he would find many hearts or peace signs with the city's penchant for spooky stuff.] If you want nicer things though, you'll have to earn your own money for those.

Woah, it's still amazing, y'know, not like my school back home would've done that stuff.

[ Sure, the circumstances might be different with this being a war and all, but Josuke is just not used at all to just getting stuff like that rather than having to plan using his allowance.. ]

The basic stuff ain't ugly though, is it? I guess I can always just wear it under my coat if I have to..

[She leans on her broom, considering.] Well, I suppose that depends on who you ask. Skulls and bats seem popular but if you look around you should be able to find some more normal things.

[Realizing she hasn't introduced herself yet...] My name's Lily, by the way.

Oh..! [ He realises it too now, welp. He probably wouldn't have realised it if she didn't say it yet.. ] The name's Josuke, good to meet you, uh.. [ .. what.. should he.. call her.. better go polite here, right? ] .. miss!

Skulls and bats aren't really my kinda thing though, they're too gloomy.

I don't think they're most people's thing. Not the people who ended up here because of that contraption, anyway. My shop is mostly skull and bat free. [Lily chuckles a bit as she gestures to the storefront behind her.]

Maybe I'll have to take a look there sometime then!

[ She seems nice enough, either way, so he chuckles.. and then deflates again. ]

... When I have money, that is.

[She nods but tries to be encouraging.] There are probably still places around the city hiring. Coffee shops and restaurants and maybe some other types of shops, too. I've been thinking of hiring extra help, too, but I'd have to check if I can afford it first.

I guess I helped clean dishes and shit at Tonio's back home, so.. doing that here can't be too bad. [ Even though that was just to pay for his food, but hey, it's still experience! ] I'll make to ask one of them then. Thanks for helping out, miss!

[ He even makes a polite bow and all. He's a good kid despite his looks.. ]

Don't worry, I will! Heh, maybe I'll bring a friend or two along too. [ That is, if he makes any.. but Josuke is confident enough he will, judging by his grin. ]
