Location: Bakura's brand new sparkly luxury apartment, Fatality Condominiums-5D

Description: Bakura throws an apartment warming party! And makes the mistake of letting Takuto plan it. Strip dueling, anyone?



The apartment was huge and seemed almost at odds with the relaxed, homey air that Bakura's previous apartment held. This one was a grand affair, an extensive patio with a hot tub, a slightly sunken living room full of couches. The large dining room table was laden with snacks including both bought and homemade pastries and the living room table has a ton of Battaku cards as well as a stack of Death City Off brand horror movies.

All in all, exactly what one would expect from a Bakura party. ...though when Takuto brought his party supplies, the tone of the room might change...

"Not just them. Everyone here seems to be rather..." He gives another wave with his hand, eloquence fading fast to be replaced by inebriation. "Like it’s uncomfortable or something to be embarrassed about."

Under better circumstance he would of course acknowledge that it was bound to be an unfavorable comparison, coming from a country where they married their kings off at 14 and nudity and sensuality was commonplace among everything from common work to high art. But that bit of logic was lost on him now.

"I suppose if that is your way, it’s still refreshing though."

He giggles a little. The Pharaoh had said something about it being uncomfortable, which is funny. Except wait, what exactly is he referring to. Not... it, right? Unless the Pharaoh, well, being a Pharaoh maybe he'd....

"Can I ask you a personal question?" This is said in a rather loud stage whisper as he scoots closer to have at least a tiny semblance of privacy. Also, that blush is going nowhere.

[pregames]

With his eyes closed, Atem is somewhat startled out of his reverie as Takuto draws near. He squints at the younger teen and his sudden want for discretion. Personal was a rather vague category after all.

"I suppose... so long as I can decline to answer."

[tauborn]

This is the alcohol talking. Normally, he wouldn't ask anyone this question ever. Because it is awkward and really, why does Takuto even need to know?

He doesn't, but he's asking anyway.

"A-are you a virgin?"

[pregames]

Oh. That. They had been talking about that hadn't they? But that can't save Atem from dissolving into a fit of laughter. It's not funny. It's not that funny. But Atem is likewise drunk and the question just seems ridiculous to him.

"Not... since a long time."

[tauborn]

His face is scarlet for asking, but at least the Pharaoh is laughing about it?

"Wait, long time like since ancient Egypt or long time like you did it when you were fourteen? How old are you, anyway?" Because Atem actually looks like he's fifteen, but maybe that's just because he's short.

[pregames]

"When you put it like that it has to be both."

He side eyes Takuto. Even in Egypt this was a bit of a strange discussion to be having, mostly because it just wasn't questioned. Certainly not of a pharaoh.

"I'm sixteen." Seventeen, but it's hard to keep track of your birthday when you no longer understand the calendar. "I was married when I was fourteen but... well... it was still before that. Need I remind you of who I am?"

He blinks a little. He has no idea of Egyptian culture, so please forgive him. He is also Takuto, so you'll have to forgive him for that, too.

"You're married?" It wouldn't be the first time Takuto had kissed a married person, though it certainly is the first time he's done it on purpose.

[pregames]

Fortunately, Takuto is Takuto and Atem wouldn't have him any other way. He's starting believe what his dazzling hair twin was saying earlier though.

"Of course." Instinctively, he holds up his left hand where a thin gold ring inlaid with a lapis cabochon adorns his ring finger, among the many other. After all the wine, he no longer has the foresight to realize that might not mean the same thing here. "A king requires a queen."

He is just staring in awe. 'A king requires a queen' just sounds so important.

"Wowwww...." Also you have cool rings, bro. "Your wife, what is she like?"

Aset... [He slips easily back into her childhood name when he doesn’t have to think about the proper titles she’s now accorded.]

She's a couple years older than me. And beautiful of course. The daughter of the vizier of lower Egypt but she came to live at the palace and study in the house of life with us when she was still young. We grew up together and she was notorious for teasing me relentlessly. If I ever tried to do anything to get back at her I was the one that got in trouble. But... she also understood what it was like to grow up living a life that is already planned for you and she handles it gracefully, it ways I could only hope to emulate. She's an admirable queen and I can think of few women better suited to assist in running the country now that I am...

[Oh. Now why did he have to go and think about that. Everything was so warm and fuzzy and now he's frowning, just letting that particularly train of thought effervesce with the steam clouding around them.]

[Takuto assumes that the missing word is "here." There are still quite a few people who don't believe that time pauses for people who are brought here by BREW, and to be fair, there's no way to actually prove that BREW will return someone to their proper timeline.

So Takuto is still drunkenly imagining the Pharaoh's beautiful wife, a few years older than him, smart and graceful....]

She must be pretty amazing. [He nods. Being a Pharaoh sounded like a pretty choice gig.] Except I guess you never did much dating if you married so young and er, did all your potential brides have to be princesses or something?

Well Aset comes from nobility, not royalty. Although I had intended to take other wives. To forge bonds with our allies and treaty with adversaries and such. Some of the women of the harem are of royal blood as well.

[He slumps down in the tub as he reminisces. Takuto may have thought it sounded like quite the life but Atem never felt like the social duties of his crown were anything more than a chore. At his age he had far more concern for keeping his head than appeasing a flock of flighty and oft times superficial women. Most of them inherited from his father.]

What do you mean by dating, anyway?

[tauborn]

[He hardly knows the difference between nobility and royalty, but that's completely forgotten, and the Pharaoh's last question goes entirely unheard because Takuto has heard a word and the entire world stopped as his eyes grow wide and he stares at Pharaoh in awe.]

Did you say the harem?

[pregames]

[Why does it sound like Takuto's whole life just changed? Forever. Atem tilts his head toward his friend, squinting, half wondering if he said something strange while the other half fails to care at this point. In part because of all the drinking but more because he's simply Atem.]

Yes?

You have a harem?

[Excuse him while he takes a few breaths to digest this information. How nice it must be to be a king and have a harem. And to have it be normal. But wait, had the Pharaoh said something about 'what is dating?' EVERYTHING IS BACKWARDSSSSS.]

[Did he stutter?

After the second time, Atem’s patience begins to wear slightly. He can tell that Takuto heard him and likely understood. Judging by the reaction there’s no need to ask whether or not that was normal here so the only thing left is to opt for something a little more direct.]

I can't tell if you are envious or appalled.

Being a Pharaoh sounds awesome!

[Having a harem on top of an amazing wife and no doubt there was a whole palace or something for all of that. He's certainly envious.]

That sort of thing isn't really allowed anymore....

[Forgive him for rolling his eyes, Takuto. Tact isn’t his strong suit, especially while under under the influence.]

[Just as soon as you figure out a way back, oh and don't mind the assassination attempts while you're there.]

[Actually, his life at home had also been full of assassination attempts, and in some sense of the word he'd nearly had a harem. They really do have more in common other than their dazzling hair.]

Well, what does a Pharaoh actually do? [There's a short, drunken pause, and then because it's impossible to resist--] Other than keep your wife and harem happy, of course.

[Takuto. Takuto please. He can’t stifled another groan.]

A pharaoh presides over all functions of the empire, be it administrative, judicial, economic, religious or military. As such, I hardly had time for something so frivolous as entertaining women. Most of the harem was inherited anyway.

[There was also the matter of him facing constant scrutiny from the nobles for being so young. As well as that little catastrophe called Bakura. But he doubts Takuto really needs to hear about all his personal troubles as well.]

[tauborn]

Okay okay so you had a lot to do. [He waves his hands around--he can understand if the Pharaoh was a busy guy, of course. But...] But entertaining women isn't a frivolous undertaking--it takes a lot of serious willpower and commitment to keep them happy. [This is as best a serious face as he can get right now, if you must know. He might even be drunkenly waggling a finger in your general direction with how serious this is.] And you should always keep anyone you're with happy.

...Inherited--that's like a gift, right?

[pregames]

[Okay that elicits a laugh.] Sounds like you are the exact person needed for the job if you really feel that strongly about it.

[Followed by a sigh as the amusement passes.] It is. In a way. It is a gift bequeathed from the dead. Thus, I could hardly say I was with any of them under those circumstances aside from Aset [And even that was a far cry from the romantic circumstances most people here seemed to envision.]

A gift from the dead...? [Sounds a little creepy, actually. But he shrugs. The Pharaoh has some weird things about dead people--he remembers this from the haunted house at the floating carnival.]

So you were still true to your wife, even though you had a harem. [He sounds impressed because he doubts he'd have that kind of willpower. And maybe he sounds a little envious, but that's because he doubts he'd have that kind of willpower, and also because it seems like this Aset is really incredibly amazing.] Your world sounds really different though--or maybe it's just your timeline?

[pregames]

I would not say that. [There's something in the sound of his voice that implies might not have so much reserve as Takuto believes.]

I imagine time has something to with it. Most everything here is pretty strange to me too as are the ways of you guys. I mean why should a harem be such a big deal if you can take care of it all?
