Even with all of the buzz and the excitement, Valentine's Day was just another day, wasn't it? That meant that people got up, people trained, and people went to work, especially if they happened to be employed with DOGS and the Watch.

Of course, Death City had a way of making things stop being normal pretty quickly...

Shuurei was at work as usual in the evening but there were a couple of odd things that night. To one side of her desk was a large stack of boxes, filled with hundreds and hundreds of miniature steamed buns. Whenever someone walked by, she would insist they take at least one of the red bean paste-filled treats.

And at the other side of the desk were several stacks of paperwork, each a foot tall. Once in a while, she would finish writing another report and add it to one of the stacks. And she was smiling the whole time as if paperwork was the most wonderful thing in existence. Even if she was a workaholic, surely this was a bit ridiculous…

"How's it going?"

Roy dropped in at Shuurei's desk with a smile, to check on how she was doing. He quietly hoped that the craziness that had appeared to have seized Death City that day had not effected her...

It might not be as obvious as bursting out into song or hugging everyone in sight but Shuurei has indeed been affected by the holiday craziness.

She smiled brightly. "It's wonderful, Chief. I've gotten so many reports written this evening and have another two dozen to write!" Shuurei sounded much happier than any normal person with that many reports to write would be.

"Oh, and please have some steamed buns!" She removed the lid from one of the boxes, revealing a pile of tiny buns, and pushed the box towards Roy.

That smelled pretty good. Roy eyed them appreciatively for a moment before picking one up.

"Don't mind if I do. I'm glad you enjoy the work that you do for us," he went on to say.

Shuurei nodded eagerly. “Yes, I’ll also update the ledgers tonight.” She picked up the books, looking as if she wanted to hug them. “And let me know if there’s anything else you need me to do.”

With the effects of the chocolate, she would probably accept a week’s worth of extra paperwork and be overly cheerful about it!

"I think that you're already going to cover what I might have ended up asking for," Roy murmured, watching the way she was touching those books. He knew Shuurei was a hard worker, but this was a little extreme, even for her.

"Don't work too hard now."

Neji came by the office again in the evening to drop off his own report for his district, quite looking forward to returning home and sleeping away most of the day's strangeness. Tomorrow would be better with the holiday over, he was sure, and silently hoped there wouldn't be another holiday at all for awhile.

Mildly suspicious of food in general now, however, he stared at the bun that had been more or less forced on him in front of Shuurei's desk with a frown.

"...Thank you. You made these..?"

People had been acting somewhat strange that day but that Shuurei was still in a happy mood and oblivious to any oddities in her own behavior. She smiled as she answered Neji.

"Yes, I often made these back in Saiunkoku. They're filled with red bean paste and ground sesame. The sesame keeps them from being too sweet and my friends couldn't stop eating them."

Then, she spots the report and reaches out eagerly for it. "Is that your report for today? I'll take good care of it."

okay I've decided Neji really likes these

As a general rule, Neji didn't find himself drawn to anything terribly sweet, and had initially intended to pass it off to one of the girls at home, but now...

"Ah, yes, thank you." He handed his report over, eyeing the boxes with barely concealed interest. "..Do you mind if I take a few home for Lain and my cousins? I'm sure they'd like them."

Shuurei took the report and carefully added it to the growing pile as if it were something precious.

"Of course." She smiled, pushing a box of buns towards Neji. "Please, take as many as you would like."

"Lain is your partner, correct?" She recalled a girl mentioning that she was Neji's partner in a message over the mirror. "Oh, did you have another cousin here besides Hanabi? I didn't realize."

Neji may have questioned the almost loving way his report was being handled if it had any of his attention, but he was caught up in attempting to figure out how many it'd be acceptable to take.

"That's correct. And Hinata-sama just arrived a few days ago with the most recent batch.. She's Hanabi-san's older sister."

He wound up holding five- one to eat on the way home, and one to eat with his partner and cousins when he got there.
