The Demon Went Down to Guatemala [CLOSED]

Description: Mission 188 - dueling musicians

[Akiha was checking her appearance in the mirror a public restroom to make sure she looked her best - to play the part of the dark-haired beauty on this mission - and touched up her makeup a little.]

This is completely unacceptable. What the hell did they think was more important?

[She mad.]

Then...

[Her mind ran.]

...I will make you a new one myself!

[Akiha seemed to actually consider that for a moment. Technically, Sion would make the perfect violin, but she wasn't sure if it would have the right sound. Sometimes there were things that were too perfect. A string instrument was one of them. But still...]

I would rather you continue working on that Madness dampener, but... [She looped her arm in Sion's.] If you really want to make me a violin, I won't stop you.

I could handle two things. Personally, I would prefer to make something you would enjoy than anything else.

[At least she was assertive about it.]

[Akiha bumped her shoulder against Sion.] You certainly know how to make me smile.

...but we should make sure there's nothing else to clean up around here. And then I want to get to bed. We have the big mission tomorrow, remember?

[Sion kept pressed against her so she could enjoy the contact.]

Being well rested is something we should plan on doing. A good sleep will go a long ways.

Especially if you manage to sleep the whole night through.

[She started leading them in the direction the kishin egg had come from. They did have to check the area out once more just to make sure the creature hadn't any lesser creatures with it. With the dogs mentioned in the mission brief, she was concerned a few of them may have turned.]

W-...With you with me, I cannot imagine that being too much of an issue.

[Clinging at night does help.

But it wasn't a long walk. They probably would have appeared earlier in the fight, even if it had happened quickly.]

And I might be able to overlook the pathetic condition the hotel room in this town is going to be with you there.

[Akiha stopped when she heard a growl and the mangy dog slinking out into sight had red eyes.]

Great.

...practice your Soul Menace on this creature.

[One enemy and well, Sion had confidence.]

If something goes wrong, I will back you up.

Might as well.

[Pulling away from Sion, Akiha focused her eyes on the creature as it drew closer. Following the exercises Stein had taught her, she calmed her mind and listened for her own wavelength.

Crouching into a ready stance, she curled the fingers of one hand like she would do when fighting back in Misaki City instead of the more structured martial arts she used here. Resonating with herself, small sparks arched between her nails.

So far so good...]

I've never used this is real combat before.

[Yes, she felt the need to remind Sion of this fact.]

Better now, in a semi-controlled situation like this, rather than a hectic one.

[Sion had a point.

Keeping herself calm, Akiha closed the distance between herself and the dog. It growled and snapped at her, she jumped back out of the way, and then darted back in to slash at the creature. When she made contact, she pushed her wavelength into it. The dog yelped and retreated a bit.]

...too weak.

Getting angry should help, should it not?

[Sion could assist with that.]

You are pathetic.

[THERE, EXCELLENT INSULT.]

[That insult certainly spiked Akiha's anger. Nostrils flaring, she shot Sion a glare.]

I am not pathetic!

[The dog took Akiha's apparent distraction as a moment to dart forward to snap at her. It was met with a boot to the jaws and then Akiha brought her elbow down on the top of its head. A brief crimson spark was visible at the moment of contact and the dog yelped again, louder than before, and was driven to the ground.

It seemed to be somewhat stunned.]

That was even worse. I bet that annoying Burial Agent would do better.

[Now we're getting somewhere.]

[That... that was too far. Sion had stepped over a line she should not have when insulting Akiha. It didn't matter that she was doing it for a reason, she was either forgetting how Akiha vented her anger or she made the mistake of thinking, because of the mission, she was exempt from it. There were many times when Akiha was NOT a rational person.

Anger boiling, she whipped around and struck right at Sion's stomach. Even if her partner blocked it, she was still able to unleash Soul Menace. A crimson glow came from Akiha's hand, but Sion would feel the demonic aspect of Akiha's soul slash into hers.]

You will never compare me with THAT woman again! DO YOU UNDERSTAND?!

[The dog had recovered by then and attacked, but Akiha caught it, threw it to the ground, and then stamped hard on its neck with a loud SNAP.]

[Sion thought she was helping so it never occurred to her.

Either way, she was caught off guard. It didn't knock her over but she did crumple up and it was very, very painful. As if she had been cut from the inside.

There wasn't much she could do but bend over, hold her stomach, and grimace.]

[Standing over the dead dog, Akiha watched the soul rise from its body, red but barely so as it was a brand new kishin egg, and drew in a few deep breaths as she tried to calm down. She grabbed the soul and looked over at Sion.

It was the sight of her partner - her girlfriend - in pain that broke through the meister's anger.]

Damnit, Sion.

[She knelt down and tried to pull her girlfriend into her arms.]

Are you okay?

[She didn't answer but she didn't reject Akiha either. While she knew it wasn't entirely her fault, she still chastised herself for not knowing the boundaries like she should.

Still holding where she was hit, she put her other arm around Akiha and pulled her close.]

[Holding Sion tight, Akiha rubbed her back with the hand not occupied by the soul.]

I lost my temper. I'm sorry. I didn't mean to hurt you like this.

[She buried her face into Akiha's neck.]

I should have been more careful about the things I say.

Yes, but I shouldn't have struck you.

[Akiha kissed the side of Sion's head.]

...will this soul help you?

Doubtful.

[She stands back up semi-straight. Just a little bent over.]

You can make up for it when we return.

Well... Here, anyways. [She offers the soul.]

Let's get back to the hotel room.
