[OPEN] Mission 157
Characters: Open to participants who signed up here.
Location: Nocturne Bazaar
Rating: Gen.
Time: April 5th.
Description: The battle to destroy the last of the three Madness Emitters is upon us.
It happens early in the morning: a strange and lingering air of disquiet, almost imperceptible even to those trained to recognize it for what it is, quickly rising to a mind-shattering crescendo. On the floating island above the city, black liquid bubbles up from the cracks in the cobblestone streets and materializes into tall, thin, clown-shaped creatures. Oversized carrion birds take wing from the rafters of buildings, trailing dust from their dirty wings. The screams of civilians are clearly heard even from Death City so far down below, waking its citizens up from fitful, nightmare-filled slumbers.
The Witches are here!
It doesn't take long for the defenders to rally: Kid sends out the call to arms and, after admonishing all but the most skilled pairs to stay off the island, instructs those attending Mission 157 to prepare to get on the gondolas which still remain the only way to and from the Bazaar.
The streets are not as packed as they were the past two days, but there is no less commotion. The carnival workers and residents, fleeing from the marauding monsters, clearly have no hand in this deception. In between trying to save their lives, striking down the Black Blood-formed clowns and avoiding the talons of swooping bird familiars, the pairs certainly have their hands full.
At the epicenter of the battle is the yellow-bricked fortune-telling building. Waves of Madness emanate from it with an almost physical force. If you aren't careful, you may run into the black-feathered Witch guarding it…
By the end of the conflict, the island is incapable of supporting its own weight. With the help of volunteers shuttling civilians and fighters alike from the Bazaar to the ground, everyone must race back to the gondolas before the entire rock crashes in the sands.

As he and Edgeworth found themselves on the floating ground, he puts a hand to his Meister's shoulder gently. Not the playful kind of touch he'd use to try to be all buddies with him-- but the calm, affirming kind that silently conveyed how he was sure to be there for him no matter what.]
We can do this.
no subject
The prosecutor nods resolutely, maintaining his focus so far. After all, he would need that focus in battle. His mind was his strongest asset, and if it slipped away from him, it would cost them more than just the fight.]
Yes. We should continue on ahead.
no subject
His hand moves from the lawyer's shoulder to his hand immediately-- already, there was a swooping bird familiar headed right for them. He quickly transforms into the Rapier.]
On your guard!!
no subject
He struggles to maintain his stance and his grip, trying to figure out what to do next...]
no subject
[Genesis kept his words as calm as possible, doing his best to keep a level head in order to minimize the effects of the madness.]
no subject
[He ducks to avoid the bird's beak, and brings the sword up into an upward swing that cuts through its wing, creating a spray of ruined feathers. The creature squawks loudly and in pain, and is distracted enough for Edgeworth to pierce its chest with the Rapier.
This was no time to stick around and watch it die, so he moves onward.]
no subject
Looks like we must tread carefully. Do you think you can handle it? Using me to fight without harming the civilians? Or would you prefer that we split up for now?
[But there was a clear price for them breaking their resonance. It could be harder for both of them to fight the effects of the madness.]
no subject
If those civilians weren't so scattered - wait.
Edgeworth had the perfect card to play. If he could turn kishin eggs against each other and attempt to pull people out of Madness by simply talking to them, and if his power was more effective in a crowd...]
I can subdue the civilians with my Meister ability if need be.
no subject
Do it. I'm certain you can do it.
no subject
[He approaches the civilians worked up in a frenzy - and for good reason. More of the dreadful birds were swooping down among them, and some of the monstrous clowns had joined the fray. So far, none of the enemies had decided to target the Meister and his Weapon.
After taking a deep breath, he bellows his next words as loud as he can without straining his voice. He did not want another episode of laryngitis. Drawing power from their resonance, he projects his commands toward the people, gesturing with the Rapier to where the gondolas were docked.]
Do not panic! Proceed to the gondolas in an orderly fashion! I repeat, don't panic or let the Madness take hold of you!
[The shouting would certainly get the civilians' attention, and Edgeworth's ability would maintain their attention.]
Leave the island immediately!
no subject
Edgeworth! The enemies!
[Genesis knew how heavy his blade was, but he knew that his reach could possibly make up for their slow speed.]
no subject
And he had one. Summoning the power from their resonance to fuel his Soul Talk, he calls out to the clowns and the birds.]
Take no step further! Do not approach the civilians! Cease and desist! [As he spoke to the monsters, he swings the sword toward the nearest clowns, hurriedly striding toward them as well to get closer to their targets.]
no subject
Ready!
[The Rapier's blade flares up, becoming a fiery length of steel.]
no subject
He does not reply, but sidesteps when a reckless clown lunges at him with a howl. It meets its end when the blazing Rapier slices it in half. A second clown, trying to take advantage of the fact that Edgeworth currently has his hands full, falls when the prosecutor kicks it in the gut before slashing it to bits.
Be proud of your partner, Genesis. He has been training.]
