[OPEN] Mission 157
Characters: Open to participants who signed up here.
Location: Nocturne Bazaar
Rating: Gen.
Time: April 5th.
Description: The battle to destroy the last of the three Madness Emitters is upon us.
It happens early in the morning: a strange and lingering air of disquiet, almost imperceptible even to those trained to recognize it for what it is, quickly rising to a mind-shattering crescendo. On the floating island above the city, black liquid bubbles up from the cracks in the cobblestone streets and materializes into tall, thin, clown-shaped creatures. Oversized carrion birds take wing from the rafters of buildings, trailing dust from their dirty wings. The screams of civilians are clearly heard even from Death City so far down below, waking its citizens up from fitful, nightmare-filled slumbers.
The Witches are here!
It doesn't take long for the defenders to rally: Kid sends out the call to arms and, after admonishing all but the most skilled pairs to stay off the island, instructs those attending Mission 157 to prepare to get on the gondolas which still remain the only way to and from the Bazaar.
The streets are not as packed as they were the past two days, but there is no less commotion. The carnival workers and residents, fleeing from the marauding monsters, clearly have no hand in this deception. In between trying to save their lives, striking down the Black Blood-formed clowns and avoiding the talons of swooping bird familiars, the pairs certainly have their hands full.
At the epicenter of the battle is the yellow-bricked fortune-telling building. Waves of Madness emanate from it with an almost physical force. If you aren't careful, you may run into the black-feathered Witch guarding it…
By the end of the conflict, the island is incapable of supporting its own weight. With the help of volunteers shuttling civilians and fighters alike from the Bazaar to the ground, everyone must race back to the gondolas before the entire rock crashes in the sands.

No sense in being reckless. If they just jumped in to attack, it might end in unnecessary pain. While being overly cautious could be a problem, this seemed to be a more powerful creature than they were used to dealing with.

Its body seemed to slither out of the way, bending in an impossible fashion. It giggled and then something black shot out of it at Akiha. The meister dove out of the way, hearing a ripping noise as whatever that had been tore through the end of her skirt where it had flared up mid-dive. Rolling to her feet, she looked back at the clown to judge where it was and almost screamed at how close it suddenly was.
A bunch of those black pin-like projectiles shot at her again. Too close to do much else, Akiha brought the staff up to shield herself, several of the black blood needles sticking into the staff itself.
no subject
It did answer the question of if she could ever get hurt. The only problem now was wondering what effects there would be when she appeared back in her human form. She would probably need some level of medical treatment for sure.
no subject
The concerned call to her partner slipped out upon feeling that flare of pain before Sion was able to shut it off. She immediately swiped her hand down the length of the staff, trying to dislodge the black needles as best she could, but then there was an intense surge of anger from Akiha.
How dare that thing hurt Sion.
With a not-so-human growl, Akiha pivoted to bring the heavy and of the staff against the clown's shoulder before stepping into it. Hand driving into the center of its chest, Akiha used her meister ability to drain part of its energy.
...and it just laughed at them.

Picking up that Sion was okay (sort of), Akiha decided to unleash a bunch of attacks, channeling the life force energy she'd taken into her strikes. The think dodged some of them, but others hit true. Still, the thing laughed maniacally like it wasn't even hurt.
When one strike shattered the shoulder armor on it, pieces embedded into the clown's body yet still laughing at them, Akiha paused as she tried to catch her breath. She was thoroughly frustrated. Were they even doing any damage to it? Was the black stuff dripping onto the ground its blood or just... gross ick?
no subject
Continue your attacks. It may just be immune to pain in its insanity.
no subject
It did, unfortunately, make her pause in her movement, leaving her open to a surprise attack from below. The black blood on the ground formed into the sharp needle and shot up at her. Searing pain ran up her side as a few cut through her blouse and scored along her skin. It was only her battle reflexes that made it a painful but ultimately superficial wound instead of a severe wound.
Hissing in pain, she hit the needles away with the staff and ducked a bunch of weird looking - seriously, were those flat two dimensional arrows - shooting at her. Rushing the clown and ignoring the way her blouse was staining red on the side, Akiha had to parry more of those arrows and really hoped their sharp-looking edges weren't hurting Sion.
I'm... going to hit it... in the head. Help me... if you can.
no subject
But she sent an acknowledgement to Akiha. The only thing she could do was activate her own ability. And, for the moment, seeing how dangerous this fight would be if it got any worse, it was the best option. Without waiting for Akiha to ask, she started it, giving Akiha a clean path through the projectiles that were heading their way.

She felt it hit, heard the armor crack and the thing suddenly stopped the creepy insane laughter. And then something blew her back and she hit the ground hard, head impacting the ground and the jolt made her cut her lip on her own teeth.
"Ow..."
She rolled onto her side, arm automatically cradling the staff to her as she pressed her hand to her injury. Her head rang. She hoped it was dead. She didn't want to look to see if it was dead.
But that extra madness wasn't trying to invade her mind anymore.
no subject
Are you okay?
Once the creature was confirmed dead, she'd try to transform back but not before it happened. If she ended up in a situation where becoming human would drop her into unconsciousness, she couldn't risk it. Not with an nearby enemy that was exceedingly dangerous.
no subject
Because that was the only thing Akiha could think about right then through her pain. She opened her eyes and slowly rolled her head back to look at where the thing had been. It looked like a black paint bomb had gone off, the goo clinging to everything.
But that's all she could see. No body... no sign of the clown.
no subject
Sion was getting tired mentally and needed a break either way. With no need to focus, she let down her wall in their connection, mentally apologizing for the pain Akiha would feel from Sion. It wasn't dangerous but it felt very odd...considering that she was a solid structure at the moment.
no subject
Good. I don't want to move. Everything hurts.
no subject
The blood flow was thankfully light but it slowly leaked out while her body's natural defenses were working to plug up the holes.
no subject
"How bad?"
Despite being in as much pain as she was, blouse sticking to her wound, Akiha was more concerned about Sion's condition than her own. Mostly because her partner had never been injured in battle before...
no subject
So scientific. So...Sion. She leaned over and rested herself against Akiha and closed her eyes. Hopefully they weren't vulnerable but Sion needed this for a few moments. Just a few short moments of emotional support would be nice.
"Are you doing okay yourself?"
no subject
"So, you're bleeding." She could smell blood, but she was pretty sure it was her own, and it was making her acutely aware that she could taste blood. Hopefully that was her own from her lip and not the lingering blood from the man shed bitten.
"...my entire side feels like it's on fire."
no subject
Sion was certainly worried about Akiha and was in no position to help. Yes, they needed to find a healer somewhere and hope they weren't already bogged down. If they were, Sion and Akiha would probably find themselves lost in a triage system.
no subject
"...need to lay here for a bit more ." She closed her eyes and drew in a pained breath. "Sion, I... I'm sorry."
no subject
Since they were going to sit here for a few more moments, Sion would take the chance to rest too. No sense in standing up if she was going to just wait there.

Akiha just wanted to stay there, but knew they couldn't. Between both their injuries, they weren't going to be much more help in this mission and they needed to get to the medics. The prospect of getting over there just wasn't appealing at all.
Slowly, she sat up groaning as her shirt pulled free from the wound on her side. Once there, she leaned against Sion's back, resting her head against her partner.
"Can you navigate us to the medics? I... I can't remember where it's set up at."
no subject
She shared the weight with Akiha. Sion too needed the rest so she sat back with Akiha against her.
"A few more minutes may be required."
