[OPEN] Mission 157
Characters: Open to participants who signed up here.
Location: Nocturne Bazaar
Rating: Gen.
Time: April 5th.
Description: The battle to destroy the last of the three Madness Emitters is upon us.
It happens early in the morning: a strange and lingering air of disquiet, almost imperceptible even to those trained to recognize it for what it is, quickly rising to a mind-shattering crescendo. On the floating island above the city, black liquid bubbles up from the cracks in the cobblestone streets and materializes into tall, thin, clown-shaped creatures. Oversized carrion birds take wing from the rafters of buildings, trailing dust from their dirty wings. The screams of civilians are clearly heard even from Death City so far down below, waking its citizens up from fitful, nightmare-filled slumbers.
The Witches are here!
It doesn't take long for the defenders to rally: Kid sends out the call to arms and, after admonishing all but the most skilled pairs to stay off the island, instructs those attending Mission 157 to prepare to get on the gondolas which still remain the only way to and from the Bazaar.
The streets are not as packed as they were the past two days, but there is no less commotion. The carnival workers and residents, fleeing from the marauding monsters, clearly have no hand in this deception. In between trying to save their lives, striking down the Black Blood-formed clowns and avoiding the talons of swooping bird familiars, the pairs certainly have their hands full.
At the epicenter of the battle is the yellow-bricked fortune-telling building. Waves of Madness emanate from it with an almost physical force. If you aren't careful, you may run into the black-feathered Witch guarding it…
By the end of the conflict, the island is incapable of supporting its own weight. With the help of volunteers shuttling civilians and fighters alike from the Bazaar to the ground, everyone must race back to the gondolas before the entire rock crashes in the sands.

[Dirk, Rosalia, and a Black Clown | Closed]
No matter what had occurred before now, Rosalia blinked, abruptly remembering what she was doing now. She was jogging behind Dirk, the kit slung over an arm and the unmistakable sounds of battle on every side. Worse, the island had begun shaking some time ago. It was going to fall out of the sky at this rate, but she couldn't focus on that. Her head was hurting like it had the day before when they saw that clown...
... Ah, that was it! Dirk said he had wanted to come back to the Haunted House. Then this pain must be due to the emitter raising the Madness levels. Right, he wanted to see if it was there, but would it be? Rosalia shook her head again to concentrate. If it was there, Dirk would have to fight and she was the Weapon available. Even if she didn't like her ability, she had to help him.

As they got closer to the Haunted House, he felt his headache starting to come back, which gave his suspicions weight - that clown from before. It had seemed out of place among all the fake crap in the house. If he had to guess where the Madness Emitter was, it was inside that goddamn clown.
He had to stop for a second outside the entrance to the Haunted House - the Madness trying to get at his head was already fiercer than it had been the day before. He was still okay, but at the moment, it wasn't him he was worried about.
"Okay, so," he began. "We go in, find the clown, bust it open like a pinata and if the Emitter's inside, bust that too. If there's any giant spiders or whatever," he finished the sentence by holding up his sword. "Ready?"

"It's going to be really bad again once we enter. We'll have to stay focused."

"Don't fall for the fake-ass witch falling down from behind again. Got it."
He stormed into the Haunted House without anymore hesitation, his sword raised and at the ready. He figured the best part to start would be the room where they'd seen the clown before, so he ran straight in that direction. But he kept his guard up nonetheless. A lack of total situational awareness had nearly gotten his arm whacked off in the last mission.
If nothing else, he felt his suspicions were confirmed - if the Madness had been bad before, it was reaching positively stomach-churning levels now that they were inside. Dirk opted to take it as a good sign that he wasn't hallucinating yet.

That oppressive atmosphere was feeling heavier and trying to claw at her mind. She couldn't allow the illusions to get her right now; he needed her to focus on the Haunted House as they moved further.
"Ah... the doors." He was moving really fast!

There's a black mass with sharp arrows poking out in the place where the clown was once at. It seems to carry an astounding amount of resonance. Even looking at it seems to cause a slight level of discomfort. Dirk, you have found the source.
[ as an ooc note: I do technically start a hiatus today but I will be tagging this thread as usual and paying close attention to it, so my hiatus should not influence the pace of this thread. If you wish to speed things up or have a specific request, you're free to hit me up on plurk (bouquets) or aim (strikingthorn/g.o.d.a.i.m.e)! Thank you for the thread, as I'm already enjoying myself here! ;o; ]

Eventually, they made it back to the room where the clown had been, finding the black mass in its place. Dirk stared at the mass, his outward expression impassive. He hesitated briefly, before gripping his ribbon-wrapped sword tightly. He took a pair of tentative steps forward and swung the weapon down at the mass, trying to slice it in half outright.

Sword in the mass, the tip of her ribbon form just grazed the edge. "Ah!" Her hands were covering her ears again as she shook, the laughter growing louder.
Their resonance was shaking again, her energy fluctuating as her ability split. She was infecting the blob, but maintaining her Weapon form was difficult as it continued to worsen. Her ribbon tassels loosened from Dirk's wrist, the brief image of infecting him on accident with her powers scaring her.

Like a slowly moving test, black patterns, littered with arrows, spirals and forms. First, a masked face, with angled lips and square teeth, forms while maintaining the snickering. The rest of the body soon follows, its long, slender, limbs twirling into form. Somehow, it is wearing clothing to cover its oddly narrow body which just stands before them with a taunting, menacing, laugh.

Whatever it was, he was already sick of it, its ugly face and that damn laugh. His sword was like a weight in his hands at this point (he barely noticed the ribbon coming undone from his arm), but he brought it back up again anyway, swinging at the clown's neck. He'd like to see it keep laughing when its head was cut off.

The ribbon remained curled on the sword, adding more weight as she tried to stay far away from the clown-looking thing. It really didn't look like any Kishin egg described to her before.

Right. So, it was like a Kishin Egg (or maybe it was a Kishin Egg?). He couldn't hurt it with his sword, he had to use a Weapon, which meant he had to hit it with Rosalia. His thought process was interrupted by what sounded a lot like people screaming in blood-curdling terror outside. He could only assume that the Madness this thing was producing was spreading even further now.
He tried to stand up, but noticed his sword hitting the ground, Rosalia's Weapon form almost sliding off of it entirely. He reached out for it to try and tie it more tightly around his sword again, but found he could barely lift it - it was heavy as a boulder. When it hit him what was happening, he couldn't help but shake his head.
"Shit. We gotta regroup, we're way the fuck out of sorts here." Their Resonance was totally shot right now to the point where they couldn't fight this guy, that much was obvious. One eye on the clown, he started backing up - when Rosalia took her normal form again, he was gonna take her and bolt out of this place. Once they put some distance between themselves and this thing, then they could regroup.

"I'm sorry!"
Regroup? Ah, she hadn't realized it, but there was yelling outside. And what of the clown's-- Ahhh, he was hurt too! She was doing a terrible job. Her fears were keeping her from assisting anyone. Hurriedly, she changed back into her normal form, glancing back at the clown. Had she effected it at all?
Curious, but Dirk said they had to flee...! He was fast!
