[OPEN] Mission 156

Characters: Open to participants who signed up here.
Location: Lake Tahoe, CA
Rating: Various.
Time: March 27th, late morning.
Description: The second of the three Madness emitters outside Death City is the target for this mission. Bundle up, everyone -- it's gonna be a cold one.

The mission begins late in the morning, to allow the mission-goers as much sunlight as possible in the warmest part of the day. Not that it'll help much… Temperatures are well below freezing already -- unnatural even for early Spring in the mountains -- and a howling snowstorm threatens to blot out the sun, beginning up the mountain where the slope just begins to rise sharply.

The slopes themselves are fairly barren: a windswept-looking tree here, a cabin that may have once belonged to the snow patrol there, maybe a Madness-crazed bear or mountain lion. Those braving the storm are lucky enough to see five feet in front of their face in these conditions!

Those brave few who manage to make it to the top (enduring falling temperatures and defeating the corrupted fauna and hulking kishin yeti along the way) may come across their goal at the very summit of the half-mile-high mountain: the Madness emitter itself, in the eye of the storm… And one last obstacle: the Witch guarding it.

It was official, Kotetsu was sure of it. Every single part of his body was frozen solid and he was merely moving on pure instinct at this point, and Barnaby was most likely going through the same thing. When they said it would be cold, they sure didn't joke around. Kotetsu had to wonder briefly if Prague had been as bad as this, but at least then they were able to see farther than five feet ahead of themselves, whereas here it felt like every single heavy step they took was more of a risky bargain than anything else, like they could tumble off the mountain at any moment without visually knowing where they were going.

Well, they did know where they were going, they just couldn't exactly see where that was.

It would be a tough mission, that much was sure, but as long as Kotetsu kept a close eye on Barnaby and focused his thoughts away from the now stronger waves of madness they were walking through then they would hopefully only come out of this incredibly fatigued.

"You still doing okay, Bunny?" Kotetsu shouted over his shoulder as he squeezed his partner's gloved hand tightly once more, making sure he didn't let himself get pulled in by the madness as badly as the last time.

The kishin egg's form was whipped away in the gale, the soul somehow remaining still as Naoto shifted back to her Human form. Her gloved hand enclosed and brought the soul back as she contemplated eating it right now. With the two before, this made three, but she wasn't any more excited at the thought of eating it.

Sighing, she turned to Minato as she stored it for later.

"We still have a way to go. Let's proceed."

"TIFA!!" He roared out into the swirling white. In all the sound-dampening powder, Kanji was at least somewhat glad for how well his voice could carry. But still, he was worried; after that particularly harsh bluster of wind and snow, they'd gotten separated. It was less that he was near the emitter and the Witch - he recklessly didn't give a shit about them right now - and more that he needed to find the girl and fast.

As he moved through the snow, he checked around him for any sign of life, all while hoping he'd feel that 'ping' of his communicator. Damn it, she couldn't have gotten far!

...Wait, who was that?

"HEY! HEY!" He shouted, picking up his pace. Was that Tifa? If not, what the hell were they doing on their own this far up!? Hypocrite

Flora was not a proficient fighter.

She'd realized this long before now, though her sheer lack of skill was staring her in the face right now. Sure, she had learned a lot in the very short time she'd been learning how to use a sword. But she hadn't realized just how much she still needed to learn, and how different actual combat was compared to her training sessions.

The snowstorm wasn't helping things, either, and the enemy was almost impossibly to see through the thick mass of snow blowing around the area. It was a miracle she'd managed to stand her ground this long, really, and so far she'd managed to sustain few injuries--just a cut on her cheek and arm--though her luck wasn't going to last much longer, and the thing she was fighting was quickly gaining the advantage.

She would have run, if she could actually see where she was running to.

Considering the success of the last mission and how the madness training had gone, Hughes was fairly certain that if they played it safe and stayed in areas of low madness, things would go smoothly. After all, firing a gun was far from difficult for Roy, and Roy did not seem to be hugely affected by Madness as of yet.

In preparation for the mission, Hughes had switched into his weapon form and was currently attempting to scan the area despite how odd it felt while being carried by another person. He was still trying to understand how exactly the system worked, but there was nothing entirely comprehensible about it. It anything, it seemed like some sort of magician's trick in a fantasy novel.

The silence from Roy began to make him antsy, though, and so, as usual, he decided small talk was the answer. "So, how about that snow? You're not getting too cold, are you?"
