[Closed] say hello then say farewell

Characters: Kotetsu & Barnaby
Location: tegur and bani and maple apartment
Rating: PG
Time: March 25, night
Description: Some people can handle emotional turmoil better than others. As much as he tries, Kotetsu is not one of those people.

When Kotetsu finally returned home from Rei's place, he at least had some company on the walk there to keep him from being entirely miserable; an armful of pets. Even though he wasn't quite sure what to do with all of them along with Potato, he decided it was just something Barnaby and him would figure out in the next few days. Of course, if Kaede took a liking to any of the extra small guests in the house, it would be hard for him to say no.

'Which one would she like the most.' Kotetsu thought absentmindedly as he sat at the couch (his temporary sleeping spot after Kaede had arrived. She didn't seem too enthusiastic about sharing a bed, so she had kicked him out, and asking Barnaby to share his room was out of the question, so there was only one spot left for him until they figured out what their living situation would become), distant eyes watching Potato play around with Cat, all while Loaf (Kotetsu could never remember his name was Enma, but it didn't matter because Loaf was just easier to memorize, especially with that appearance) dozed off in a corner with Lucky.

His lips almost quirked slightly at the sight of them all, until he remembered Rei, and his momentary feeling of amusement was gone as he just rubbed at his face, fingers running through his hair as he lowered his head to stare at his feet.

For a second, he saw a body covered in a white sheet, and immediately Kotesu shut his eyes tightly.

He was such a useless person.

This was going to be difficult. Seeing as the three in the apartment were close to Rei, they had to take on quite a burden with her departure. But it wasn't just the pets they were taking in, it was that growing heavy feeling in their hearts--namely both Barnaby and Kotetsu--on where Rei was going upon her departure. That was what made it difficult.

Rei was gone, presumably dead, never to return to this city. With the loss of her boyfriend, she was off to some hellish world, and that was the end of it. Barnaby... honestly hated to think about that sort of fate. From what Kotetsu had told him, Barnaby really couldn't think of a worse fate. He... really hoped she didn't die. He didn't want to have to think about that sort of fate, especially for such a sweet girl. Barnaby was quietly resigning himself to it, despite how much he wished he didn't have to. He hated the idea of innocent people dying, especially for unjust reasons. But... tonight, it would be especially challenging to deal with, as he had his equally-if-not-more-so partner perched on the couch.

He really was broken up about this. And for that, Barnaby couldn't blame him. But when it came to the BREW, when it came to things of this world and people leaving, like with Mustang, it was out of their hands. They were powerless, completely useless to stop it.

With a soft sigh, Barnaby grabbed two beers from the fridge and brought them into the living room. With Kaede around, they couldn't drink as much--which was alright with Barnaby, honestly--but seeing as it was night and she was already in bed, they could spare the evening and be bad role models. Taking a seat next to Kotetsu, he held one out.

"Here."
