Six released himself from the stealth mindset, releasing Soul Protect simultaneously.

"It tends to happen," Six said dryly, not really answering the question.

He put his hands in the pockets of his swim trunks, the hem of his T-shirt riding up a bit.

"Is there something wrong?"

Kid would probably see through his attempt to play innocent, but at least Six had snuck up on him with perfectly harmless intentions. (Though it did worry him how easy it was to sneak up on Kid. He hoped it was just all the distractions.)

Kid just let out a sigh as crossed his arms over his chest. It did unnerve him how people have been managing to sneak up to him, particularly Six. But with the crowd, it was to be expected.

"Unless you consider being pushed or dragged into the pool five and a half times, no, nothing is wrong," he said, his voice a little more bitter than he initially intended.

"At least people are relaxing like you'd intended," Six commented. "Mission success."

He himself wasn't going to be hopping in the pool any time soon unless forced, but he could appreciate the lightheartedness of the situation. It still boggled his mind over how young a lot of these warriors were, so giving them some downtime was important.

"Perhaps they're relaxing a little too much." But Kid did have to admit that as Six said, "mission success."

Everyone looked like they were enjoying themselves and a glance around was all that was needed to confirm that. So he let out a sigh as he relaxed a bit.

"I hope you're relaxing as well."

"I can't argue with you there." He looked out at the other guests. "This isn't my preferred way to relax, but Hughes insisted I come."

And, as Six had swiftly discovered, Hughes could be incredibly persistent.

"At the very least I can keep an eye on things. Even get in a little extra practice."

"Somehow I'm not too surprised." About Hughes, that is. He was probably fortunate to not have run into the man.

Yet.

Somehow he had a feeling that if he did, he would be facing another throw or push into the pool.

"I noticed you used your Soul Protect."

Run, Kid. Run for your life. And never ask to see pictures of his daughter.

Six nodded in response to the young god's observation. "Practice makes perfect. Since I highly doubt any witches will want to teach me all the different ways to use it, I've been playing it by ear to see what works and what doesn't."

"So far it seems to have been effective," he said, "though admittedly I've been more distracted here than usual. Anything you've observed so far?"

"Pretty much the same principles as your basic stealth techniques. When you want to disappear, it's safer to use those techniques in a crowd than on your own. I got a few reactions from I assume other Meisters with Soul Perception when I decided to try it with only a few other people around. Much more noticeable on their 'radar' that someone just disappeared than in a cluster of people. Also, if you're going to go solo, turn on Soul Protect before you reach your destination for the same reason."

It made sense, of course. If you wanted to stay off the radar, mask your signal somehow.

Kid nodded as he listened.

"Yes, that does sound like the optimal strategy. With this crowd, even had I been paying attention I may not have noticed—especially as people leave certain areas."

Six gave a little shrug. "It's common sense when you start thinking about it. So far it seems like the witches didn't really invent something to make them invisible rather than more elaborate camouflage. But no camouflage is perfect." He paused. "At least not on my world."

The last sentence was a prompt for correction regarding the rules of this one.

"No, the camouflage is not perfect," Kid nodded. "When a witch uses Soul Protect, it merely disguises their own soul to look like a humans. Thus they are capable of interacting with others with no one even realizing who they are."

Like Medusa. The thought darkened his look a little, but he continued.

"However, with it activated they are unable to use their powers, so they have to remove it to do so."

Six hadn't heard about Medusa, but..."So there could be witches inside Death City right now and none of us would know until they released Soul Protect?"

That was a disturbing thought.

"Yes, and we have had that happened. However we have recently eliminated those who posed a threat, and with Cybele here, it's unlikely for one to still be around and not have her notice."

That was the upside of having a witch or two on their side.

"Cybele?" Six asked, eyebrow lifting higher. "She can sense witches that well?"

Perhaps he could meet with this woman and see if she could help him test the limits of his ability.

"No. She's a witch."

The other eyebrow lifted to join its mate.

"Interesting."

It was obvious that this witch was on their side. He wondered how Kid had managed to convince her to work with Shibusen since it seemed as though the two entities were almost natural enemies. However, this wasn't the time or the place to ask.

"I may have to talk with her about Soul Protect to see if she can give me any additional insight."

Six's surprise was what he expected. Though there was another witch on their side and if one counted a cat who could use magic and liked to pose as a witch, a third. But really just Kim counted.

"That may be a good idea, though I warn you know, she won't be the most straightforward."

"That's a teaching style I'm more familiar with," Six said with a casual shrug. "Along with the belief that 'pain is an excellent teacher'."

It certainly hadn't looked shady at all when he'd go to market with his arm in a sling or walking on crutches almost every other week when he was younger. Nope. No, sir.

"Then you two may actually be able to get something done. I would be curious to know how that does go."

Especially given that this was Cybele. Whether she was cooperative or not was always a million dollar question. How cooperative was an extra million.

"I'll keep you up-to-date then," Six promised.

It was the least he could do in any case.

Also, look, Kid! You've managed to go this long in the conversation without being dunked.

"Thank you."

Yes! Score! This is how his day at the recreational center was supposed to be like. Now he just had to seal the deal.

"I think I'm going to head into the lounge area," he said. "You should at least go for a swim."

Someone jumped into the pool, and some water droplets landed on Six's sunglasses. He reached up to remove them, closing his eyes before doing so, and started drying them with his shirt.

"I will in a bit. I'll probably head back to where I left my book for now."

He slid his sunglasses back on, only opening his eyes when they were fully covered again. He allowed himself a teasing smirk.

"By the way, that was an excellent cannonball demonstration earlier."

He'd looked up at your shout. He hadn't known you had it in you.

"You saw that?"

But Kid only grinned. "Thank you. I couldn't let Takuto just perform a poor excuse of a cannonball like that."

Technically Takuto had challenged him first, but whatever. Details. What was important was the perfect demonstration.

"I think everybody saw that," Six said with a smirk.

The smirk was joined by an amused chuckle at Kid's statement. "Of course."

He started to turn away. "I'll let you get to a safety zone before someone else pushes or knocks you in."
