[Open] Pool Party!

Welcome to the pool party, residents of Death City! In the interests of creating a more unified city and fighting force, Shibusen is sponsoring this gathering. Feel free to tag into the three provided sections, or make your own. Come, swim, eat, and have fun!

She was still in her wrap over her suit, and had been bone dry before landing in the pool, so the answer to his question was, "No, I hadn't yet. I was actually going to wait until it was less crowded before doing so." She looked at him wryly.

"But, I guess as long as I'm in here..." And she glided over to a spot where she could remove her wrap easily. (It would be easier to move without the added drag.)

Hey, she could have swum earlier and then had time dry and. Stuff. Considering he really had no time to really pay much attention, he really would not have noticed.

But seeing her remove the wrap, he frowned a little. "It would be better if that were laid out on a chair to dry," he said as he swam over to the edge. "Allow me."

She could have, only her hair wasn't in the classic messed-up style one would see after a swim. Then again, things had happened too fast for anyone to notice anything--like the drink she hadn't seen in his hand.

Finally peeling the flimsy garment off, Sheena was about to just toss it to the side when he made his offer. Blushing at her own slight idiocy, she handed him the wrap. "You're right. Thanks, Kid."

"No problem," he said as he took the garment before hauling himself out of the pool...again.

He took a moment to look around before spotting an empty chair.

"I'll put it over there," he told her before walking to it. From there Sheena would observe him carefully setting the chair down so that it was flat before placing the wrap flat down on it. He was taking his time, making sure it was smooth and the edges were as straight as possible.

In fact at one point he stood there for a moment before reaching back down to reposition so that it was more centered on the chair.

She thanked Kid again before guarding him as he exited the pool. He really didn't need to fall back in a fifth time because of her.

"Okay," she responded, watching him so she'd know where "there" was for when she was ready to retrieve her clothing. She had figured he'd drape it over the back of the chair, but his way would actually help the wrap keep its shape.

Once it looked like he was finished, she swam over to his position and asked, "Did you want to come back in and join me for a swim?"

Of his own free will this time...

Once done he made his way back he blinked a little in surprise. Granted he had already "swam" several times that day, though only once or twice was it actually fun and recreational.

He was more surprised to hear someone ask him to join them. So after a moment of thoughtful consideration, "Well I'm already soaked, so I might as well."

Of course she was going to invite him this time; it was the least she could do after pitching him into the drink--so to speak. Looking up at him, she gave him a friendly smile.

"Good. And I promise I won't try to drown you this time."

"I'm going to hold you to that," he said with a small grin before sliding back into the water.

"Deal," she said, moving back to give him room. "Wanna race?" she asked, bobbing gently in the water.

He glanced around the pool. Although there were certainly a number of people in it, there was enough space for a swimming race.

"Sure. I'll let you chart the course."

Sheena took in the crowd herself and nodded. People seemed to be staying on the side closest to the food and drinks, so that made the plan simple.

"We'll just swim straight down through here and back. And we have to touch the wall when we turn." She looked at Kid. "How's that?" Sheena wasn't much of a swimmer, but surely she could handle that much without mishap.

Kid looked toward their destination. "That sounds good," he nodded.

He then got into position, his back to the wall as both hands gripped the edge as he leaned against it.

"Any particular style?"

Sheena stretched a little as she took everything in, memorizing where everyone was.

"How about freestyle? Whatever one you're comfortable with." For Sheena, that would be the classic front crawl.

The breaststroke from him, then.

"That works for me."

With his plan of attack in mind, he readied himself.

"Whenever you're ready."

"All right."

And she began the traditional countdown, beginning with "Ready."

At the loud, "GO!" she pushed off, literally diving into the water before stroking.

He pushed off at the same time, also diving in before going into his own stroke. But he was definitely a powerful and fast swimmer. How would Sheena fare against him?

Sheena probably wouldn't fare too well, since she really didn't swim too much, but she had strength and endurance in both her arms and legs and was willing to try.

Ignoring Kid, she focused more on a steady pace than speed--just like her grandfather taught her for training--and discovered that she was enjoying the swim, the sight of the wall a little depressing because that meant the race was almost over.

Kid was also focused on the swim, keeping his eyes on the wall and just moving forward. Once he reached it, he turned around and was off to head back to their starting point, which would end the race.

He did manage to glance at Sheena to see how close she was and it looked like she was a powerful swimmer. But there was not much to really analyze. The wall was looming closer.

Kid was right. Sheena wasn't a good swimmer--several combined intakes of water and air proved that--but she was able to stroke and kick powerfully because of her training. Even being out of commission for a few days hadn't really harmed her.

She merely kept up her steady movements, barely losing speed when she turned and headed back, her attention focused more on the wall ahead that was growing closer than on anyone else around her.

Kid was definitely in the lead, and a few more strokes and he had hit the wall, his hand gripping the ledge as he used it to help steady himself as he caught his breath. Only then did he look back to see how far behind Sheena was.

And he'd see Sheena wasn't easily visible. She had to dive under the water when someone--unaware there was a race, or even a swimmer nearby--had crossed her path unexpectedly. Thanks the gods of Mizuho for those strong legs of hers to send her under fast enough while the person continued on their merry way.

Only she went a little too far, and it took a minute or so for her to reach the wall and pop up next to Kid. Her smile was genuine as she regarded him. "You won!"

At first Kid had been confused. Where did she...?

But then not too long after she appeared next to him, surprising him a bit.

"You swam well yourself," he answered with a bit of a grin before it turned back to his earlier confusion. "But what happened?"

"Th-Thanks," she stammered, wiping the water from her eyes and face. She turned to hide her light blush from the compliment and pointed in the direction they had come.

"Someone didn't realize we were racing or something and they were swimming across my path. I had to dive under to avoid crashing into them." As she spoke, the person in question was doing exactly what they had done, turned at the wall and was now headed back they way they came.

Kid watched for a few moments. "I see. They must also be practicing."

He then turned back to her. "But I'm glad you're all right."

It probably would have been painful crashing into each other at that speed.

She tread water for a moment. "Do people sometimes have to swim on missions?" That's the only reason she could think of for swim practice in a desert.

"Thanks." She chuckled. "Good thing I was watching, or things might not have worked out so well." She wasn't referring to the speed, but how hard she might have hit the person with her hand.
