Impressionable Youths [open!]
What: Mah-jong and misbehavior, continued from here
Where: Shin's apartment
When: January 16th, mid-afternoon
Rated: PG-13 for teenagers being stupid? Possible alcohol involved?
Carrying a bag of food as a peace offering in one arm, and dragging Edward Elric along with the other, Ling made his way to Shin's apartment as he'd been directed. He didn't even need a map, since he'd been there just the other day trying to save people from the fires that some weirdo had started.
"Now Ed, this Shin person is going to teach us how to play mahjong properly. And this was something I was never allowed to do at home. If you mess this up for me, I will have you know that I'll be very upset." Ling frowned sternly. "Be nice to these people and maybe we'll learn something useful! Perhaps even how to fight more effectively here, or how to get home."
Ling smirked at Edward as he prepared to ring the doorbell. "We may even get some dirt on Roy Mustang.... fufufuuuuu~."

"I don't even know what this game is," he grumbled, but naturally the prince knew how to appeal to him: hints on fighting here or getting home were always good offers. Ed just didn't know how much they were going to get out from a game night of sorts. He frowned more at Ling's last negotiation, "Who care about dirt on the Colonel anyway?"
They had reached the room Ling spoke of and Ed fell back a little, waiting as he rang the bell.

What Shin could offer was a smile and a beer, and that's exactly what he answered the door with, plus one black-papered cigarette trailing smoke. He spoke with a slight Swedish accent, "Ling! Come in! So this is your friend?"
He lead the pair in, "just leave the door open, we've got someone else coming too. Make yourselves comfortable!" There was a table set up in the middle of the room with Mahjong tiles spread across it. By the far wall he kept an amp, an electric bass, and an acoustic guitar, and the corner closer to the table and chairs on the near wall was graced with the presence of a mini-fridge. Shin pointed to said fridge, "beer is in there, and I have hard liquor too."

“Ah, this seems like the place…” she mutters to herself quietly, her free hand trailing against the wall as she cautiously peers inside.
“Ah, it’s you!” she says (…or more like half-yells, but …details), recognizing the boy she met over the network. "Did you guys just get here?" She looks over towards the other two, giving a curt, but polite nod. "I hope I'm not late or anything..."

And that was when Ling was surprised by the arrival of Lucy. He straightened up instantly, letting go of Ed and raising a hand in greeting. "Ah--!! Good evening, miss. And here I thought that Edward was the beautiful blonde...."
Ling brushed the front of his long silk brocade Xingese robe, appearing embarrassed of its shabbiness. "Rats. If I had known there would be such a pretty lady coming, I might have worn something nicer..."

"Nice to meet you," he spoke to both Shin and Lucy, eyeing them each in turn. He couldn't help but be reminded of Winry as he looked at Lucy, and the his gaze lingered on the lip piercing Shin had, having never seen anyone wear something like it. The mention of booze quickly dispelled any ideas he had that they might actually get information and instead made Ed realize that this was probably one of those 'teenager parties' that he'd never been interested in going to (even if he had actually had friends his age).

Shin smiled as Ed admonished Ling, though he was about to be just as bad. He walked up to Lucy, took her hand and kissed it, "My, you are even more ravishing in person! You are in perfect time. The others have only just arrived."
Shin turned back to the other beautiful blond, "And it is a pleasure to meet you. I don't believe I've gotten your name yet.

“What you’re wearing is fine, I’m sure…” she says uneasily not being used to the sudden… gentleman-like gestures and concerns. Though, what shocks her most is Shin’s sudden choice of physical contact-- to which she stands there, mouth slightly agape. Was this what they called…, she shakes her head from those ridiculous ideas and instead offers as much of a comforting smile as she can muster. “… it’s good to see you in person as well.”

Was the amplifier perhaps a sort of heater, he wondered?

"I'm Ed," he answered Shin but spoke to Lucy as well, not stepping forward to give her a greeting like the other two had. It was as if they'd never seen a pretty girl before, jeez.
If they were around the shopping districk Jan 12, they could've heard~
"Nice to meet you, Ed."
Shin beckoned the pair in, then went to make sure that Ling wasn't breaking the instruments. "That's an acoustic guitar, an electric bass, and then an amp. My band just had our first official concert a few days ago."
He turned back to the other two, "If you want something besides beer, there's some cold water in the fridge, and some juice." It didn't really matter that all of the juices were also good for using as mixers, right? He didn't drink mixed drinks much, or juice, but he kept them around for Envy and Haru.

“We don’t really see things like too frequently at home. It was interesting and fun to follow through!” Lucy also makes her way over to the instruments, eyeing them carefully, though naturally she doesn’t let her curiosity get the best of her and she remains at a respectable distance. “You play all of these?”
Though, about the beverages, juice didn’t sound so bad and at their mention she smiles and nods politely.

He turned back to the instruments. "I am not sure I have seen these instruments before ever in my life. What do they sound like? What does the 'electricity' have to do with the music? Please show me," Ling requested, sitting down on the floor in front of the guitars. He smiled back at Edward, and patted the spot next to him. Come onnnn, they won't bite you.

"The amp," he said, nudging the black box with his toe, "picks up the sound of the guitar and amplifies it. This one's an electric bass, so it has a deeper sound than a guitar." He began to play a bit, just combining snippets of various songs he knew that showed off the range of sound the bass had.
He put down the bass and switched off the amp, leaving it plugged in. "I'll get the drinks, then," he said, heading into the kitchen to fetch the drinks. "I'll be back in a moment, and I can explain more."

"So there's no magic involved at all?" She asks this question aloud to no one in particular as if to reconfirm. Reanalyzing everything keenly, it made sense, she supposed, even in Fiore they had people who were non-magical in lifestyle. Glancing at at the other three, she vaguely wonders what sort of world they came from.
Getting lost in her thoughts and coming to that realization, she focuses herself back on the topic of drinks. "Ah, do you need help?"
no subject
"Can you believe such a thing is possible," Ling mused aloud, scooting veryveryclose to Edward as he spoke. He didn't dare touch the guitars, simply admiring them with his eyes as if they were holy relics of some sort. "Using electricity to make music? And here there is a device to make sounds, like a radio, in someone's home. How technology has advanced, for him."
lol it's "Shin teaches the kids about modern technology" party
"What kind of magic?" he asked over to Lucy, sitting up more and turning towards Shin and her as they made their way to get the drinks.
[[ooc: hit the enter key prematurely, apparently. x_x]]
XD And all he wants is to play majong
LMAO best kind of party. jsdhg and sorry, i tot. missed out on this! LJ never tells me Things!
... so there's no magic in Shin's world, though this fact is not entirely shocking, it was something of interest. She supposed it wasn't that uncommon of a situation between the guests of Death City either...
Seeing the pitcher and juice, she holds her hands out, grasping onto them carefully before following suit and carrying them over to place them on the same table. Lucy nods a small thanks in Shin’s direction before gingerly picking up her own bottle of juice. “Though, there are a lot of non-magical items, I suppose I’m not as accustomed to them. … so it’s pretty interesting to see things like these.”
Lucy gestures over to the amplifier and instruments graciously before passing a glance back towards the source of their current topic. "How about yours?"
oh ok!
"We don't have any magic in our world that I've ever seen or read of in my studies," he explained, rubbing his chin thoughtfully. "We have alchemy to rearrange chemistry and alkahestry to use the earth's life energy to heal. But, it isn't a power that comes simply from nowhere or creates matter or energy from nothing. When I think of magic, that's what I think of. Like, you can use a spell to make the darkness light! Or perhaps make a flower bloom, or fly. We don't have that."
