There's a grim silence in the clinic, broken only by the complaints of some patient that is still there or the adjustments the medical staff makes on the numerous stretches, supplies, and furnishings prepared for today's mission.

A handful of guards are stationed outside, both to function as runners and to keep an eye on the mirror in case something less welcome than their agents coming home appears. Some of them are Australian, the promised agents from the Oceania branch from Deathscythe Mjolnir.

As Kanji began mentioning things about Meisters and Weapons, Tifa slowly began to feel more sure of what he might want to ask, and when he did she was surprised at how happy the request made her. Truth be told, she hadn't been sure she'd acquire a partnership, at least not any time soon. Resonating with people who didn't know how to throw a punch had left her a little discouraged, so when it'd come down to it, Kanji had been the only one she had considered for a permanent partner. It was something she had figured would either fall into place or it wouldn't. And here it was, falling into place.

She smiled more at him, giving an enthusiastic nod.

"Let's partner," she affirmed, "I can't think of anyone I'd rather take down the Witches with. We already know we can do it, right?" The fact that they'd done what they had in Florence without much practice resonating together proved to her that they'd be pretty unstoppable once they trained more.

An immense weight fell off his shoulders as he nodded back. Why the hell did he think this was going to be hard, again?

"Right! Wasn't a bad place to cut our teeth on!" Most probably got their start on normal one- to two-star Missions. There was something about jumping right into hell, just to hit the ground running that suited him more.

"Now I just... gotta wait for these assholes to bust me loose. I wanna get back to the park and work out the kinks." Because, clearly, making a run for it wasn't working. It had also been a while since he attended Morning Training as well, though he wondered what kind of mess the park was in now.

"...So what happens when Guests work out a partnership? We gotta fill out some stupid paperwork or somethin'?"

damn, we always have foreboding of the future tags. T_T

Tifa began to reply before she realized she really didn't know. Tapping her chin, she thought aloud, "I'm not sure... I think we notify Shibusen somehow, register ourselves? And..."

She paused, thinking of how she'd heard most partners lived together. It was easier, made resonance better, that sort of thing. Somehow, she couldn't see Kanji moving in with Aerith and her. She wasn't sure who else Aerith would live with, but she felt like the other girl would understand and maybe have a solution to it. Plus, she was rather excited to tell Aerith about her new partnership in general.

"Well, we can get that all figured out. You should focus on getting better. The sooner you recover, the sooner you can get out of here."

I know, hahaha... aaaah, Aerith ;-;

He nodded. Contacting Shibusen made sense. They probably kept a record of who all was here in Death City that hadn't been born in this world, and keeping tabs on who partnered with who made things far less of a mish-mesh.

With her words, he grew in a breath and released it low and quiet, nodding his head to the mostly-empty IV bag.

"Workin' on it! I'm told they're gonna discharge me in the morning. Should probably try n' sleep..." He wouldn't admit it, but the clinic bed was comfy. Better than a cold hard floor, anyway. The idea what he was somewhere warm and a little quiet was all ready making his eyelids a little heavy.

She smiled more at him now and nodded, "Yeah, you should probably rest up." Rising to her feet, she gave him a little wink, "I'm not going to go easy on you once you're all better, so take advantage of it now."

After a small pause, she reached down to take his hand, giving it a little squeeze. "I'll see you soon, okay? And Kanji... I'm glad you're okay."

That got a chuckle out of him.

"Not gonna cut the sick partner any slack, huh? Heheh... that's fine by me! I ain't gonna hold back next time, three days in that cave or no!"

Before he could stop himself, he glanced down at his hand, then pointedly back up at her with a firm nod.

"...Th-thanks, Tifa. Same goes for you." He hadn't seen her since the invasion, and had been looking all over for her to no avail. Seeing her alive and well, living through that hellish cavern to finally be up front and ask her what he wished to was a near-overwhelming relief to him.

His hand was a little hesitant at first, but it soon squeezed back a little.

"We'll give 'em hell next time!"
