[Event] Invasion!

Characters: OPEN to everyone!
Location: All over Death City
Rating: Various
Time: February 2nd
Description: Witches have invaded and are attacking the city!

The attack, when it comes, happens quickly enough that Death City would have been caught flat-footed had there been no prior warning, but it's not completely unexpected because of the city's heightened state of alarm the past day. Warning sirens start sounding to alert the citizens and guests the moment a dark, slow-moving mass out in the desert to the south-east of Death City is spotted by Shibusen sentries. There's even time for civilians to run and hide before the mass is identified as an army of what looks like decaying, shambling corpses. The city's defenders are slow to move, however; most of them are distracted and are having trouble dealing with the black blood in their bodies. While agents are gathering to head out to deal with the zombie threat, that's when the witches make their move.

Portals begin opening in the skies above the city, disgorging hideous familiars: bulbous spiders and leggy ants the size of dogs. They drop hundreds of feet down into the streets and alleyways of Death City, and scuttle off in search of victims. The spiders are poisonous and can spin copious amounts of web to capture their targets, the ants spit acid that cause agonizing, paralyzing pain. Their masters bear down on the city in a cloud of black shadows--massive ravens strong enough to carry off adult men. There are five witches, women on broomsticks, beautiful if not for their crazed grins and obvious glee at the chaos descending upon the city. At some unknown signal--maybe the cackling from a couple of them--they dive in concert and disappear into different areas of the city.

Their masterful plan has begun!

"Vengeance." He let out a low whistle.

He could her from her tone that she was serious about it, too. How dangerous - and cute. Aion didn't mind people thinking like that, but he himself couldn't think any other but that that was a waste. What did vengeance do for you, in the end? All it would bring was the end of a grudge and so much meaningless destruction of things that couldn't be brought back and didn't need to have been broken.

It was a waste of emotion that blunted the sharp blade of what one could be and even if he didn't blame others for feeling that way he had come to find it just as much of a superfluous egoistical emotion as wallowing in one's guilt could be. Such things were fine for a side dish, but never as a main course.

Giving her an interested look, he asked "For what?"

[personal profile] pure_lineage 2012-03-22 01:06 am (UTC)(link)
The stoic tone didn't go by his notice, and it caused his gaze to flick back towards Cloud. He couldn't help but feel as though there was something amiss with the other, and he idly wondered if it was to do with what had happened, or if his partner was still concerned over his female companion. He supposed that would have made sense given the situation, and he felt some level of guilt within that he may have caused the blonde's life to be more difficult.

"I did the best I could with the situation," Sephiroth softly murmured. He had been making his way back towards the apartment to deal with his wound, but he'd found himself distracted a small number of times by either targets blocking his path, or by some pitiful fool who had needed his aid - as loath as he was to give it. "I did not wish to let you down by ignoring those you would help on my return here."

[personal profile] de_faulty_hero 2012-03-22 01:10 am (UTC)(link)
He never faulted the ex-General for dealing with the wound in such a way, but he suspected that the silver-haired man hadn't tended to it as quickly as necessary. No, he suspected that Sephiroth had gone about the day fighting as his Weapon was best at, perhaps even saving people. For that, he was proud, but that didn't excuse pushing the limits too far.

"I know, but you needed tending," he replied simply. He slipped his hand down to settle his warm skin over the line of sutures, providing it warmth as much as possible. "The fact that you felt the need to help people pleases me, but... I don't want to lose you. It's not a sacrifice I'm willing to make for the sake of someone I don't know."

"It's a long story. Centuries long." Demona spoke softly, turning her gaze to the skies, searching for anything approaching. "I've gone through hundreds of years dealing with my enemy and I've learned with each passing year. This world is yet another thing I shall learn."

Oh man, that was a lie. Her plans weren't really to learn, she just wanted all humans dead, no matter what world she lived in. Not to mention, she'd rather not trust the Humans to send her back when this was all over.

Despite being here as long as he had, Sephiroth still found it difficult when it came to considering himself in such forms of weaknesses. Wounds had always been easy for him to ignore and deal with back on Gaea, but the process here was far different than their home planet. He hated thinking along those lines, and the dependence he needed with rest in order to recover. Sephiroth had an even easier time recovering from the major wounds he'd received in Nibelheim than the pitiful little scratch currently at his side.

His thoughts didn't stop him from feeling the shift of Cloud's arm moments before a warmth covered the stitched area in question. Glancing down towards the area, he shifted his own arm down so that his hand could lay on top of his partner's while Cloud spoke those words. "I will always be by your side regardless of the situation," he softly muttered, the ex-General feeling unable to bring his gaze back up to regard the blonde. It was a promise that he had made Cloud many times, and while the emotion behind it had changed many times over the months, the meaning behind his promise remained the same. He would always be there, and he wasn't willing to sacrifice himself to break that promise.

"Hundreds of years are a loot of time." He agreed with a gentle tone. "It must be a strong opponent you found yourself there."

Unfurling his wings, he moved a bit to the side so that he would be able to take off without catching anything with them. "I hope you will find what you need to defeat that person within this chance of a world." Even if she did, she'd still forget about it once she was returned back. Or if. Aion was set on figuring out not only how to deal with their enemies back home, but also how to carry that knowledge over once it was time for it.

He felt the coolness of Sephiroth's hand as it settled over his own, and it caused a shiver to run up his spine. He wished that the skin would warm quicker because that would mean that the ex-General was feeling at least somewhat better. Still, the contact meant a lot to him, especially in the trying situation they had both come from.

"I'm aware of that, but I want you to be safe as well," he murmured softly, nestling his nose into the top of Sephiroth's hair. He sighed, closing his eyes so that he could breathe in the ex-General's scent. "I'll be here to take care of you, to be with you."

She was used to women babbling on nervously when he escorted them. However, that had only happened back in Kyoto. He really didn't care to reply, it was none of his business who she was talking about. All he started to do was try and start clearing a path for her.

"Stay behind and out of sight. I'll signal when it's clear."

The warmth of Cloud's hand beneath his own was a comforting feeling. Just knowing that the blonde hadn't been injured, and that the one closest to him hadn't been harmed too seriously by Kadaj was a comfort to him. There would need to be time in the future, once he'd fully healed, that he paid his remnant a visit, but that could wait so long as the foolish child did nothing else that prompted such a reaction.

"Safe, hmm?" He murmured quietly before his lips quirked up subtly at the thought. Sephiroth wasn't certain how to take such a statement, and even with the weight on top of his head, he shook it lightly while chuckling. "When have you ever known me to willingly throw my life away?" The ex-General asked before falling momentarily silent at the blonde's final words. Feeling the warmth of Cloud's body beginning to seep into his, he gave a weak squeeze to the hand laying on top of his wound as he softly muttered, "While appreciated, there are others within this city that both need you more, and you need more."

She can't believe it worked....

There’s a huge grin on her face as she makes a bit of a victory sign, her arm pumped upwards. “If only you relied on me sooner,” she teases, as if he had much of an option from the start. She outstretches her hand momentarily before retracting it… yeah, she needed something else. Fumbling around in her side pouch, she pulls out a small blade. Looking back downwards, Lucy shoots him a weird look before wearing the “do I have to explain this again” look that she wears so well.

“Why don’t you use your powers?” She says this simply, hoping he gets the point before squatting down. “How do I do this?” She didn’t want to get herself stuck. ... stuck to Natsu.... nope, she's not even going to picture that disaster...

While he wouldn't say it, he knew that Sephiroth would have to deal with Kadaj in his stead. He thought that he had tried with the remnant, reaching out where he could and being as calm and logical as possible, but the senseless attacking was crossing a line for a second time. He didn't have tolerance for such things.

His eyes reopened at Sephiroth's question, and he snorted softly as a way of replying. They both knew that the ex-General had no intention of leaving the land of the living. "Well, you have plenty to do still, so you best not toss it around," he murmured, his nose still buried in his Weapon's hair. He stilled at the last statement, feeling the barb even if Sephiroth didn't mean it in such a way. "Are you so certain you know what I need?"

'Got it!' He kept running, following her instructions until they ended up in front of the wanted convenience store at a record time. Slowing to a stop in front of it, he leaned heavily against a wall, panting heavily. After a quick look to make sure that the place was secure he put the Weapon down.

"Your turn."

[personal profile] pmsgargoyle 2012-03-22 02:02 am (UTC)(link)
Strong? No. They were pathetic, as matter of fact. But they were many.

"So do I." Demona decided to pretend ignorance regarding that matter. She knew if BREW sent her back, or if she died in this world, she'd return with no memories for what happened. But truthfully, waiting for it to happen was a waste of time. Who knows? Perhaps she will like this world once she rids it of the humans.

"Mmm I still need to create the home that I had once promised you," Sephiroth quietly said in reply. He hadn't forgotten about his promise, but it had been derailed with the many disappearances that Cetra had along with other factors getting in the way. This was something he was still entirely desiring to finish, and Sephiroth wouldn't stop trying until he had rebuilt one of the many things he had taken from the blonde.

Feeling the pause against his body, he glanced at the blonde from the corner of his eyes, even if he couldn't actually see Cloud's face. Raising a slender brow, the ex-General huffed lightly in amusement to himself as he glanced back in front of him and closed his eyes. "You need much that I cannot give you."

[personal profile] de_faulty_hero 2012-03-22 02:09 am (UTC)(link)
Cloud was well-aware that Sephiroth had promised such a thing to him, but in his own mind, the home aspect was almost completely set. He enjoyed this apartment and the warm feeling that it gave him. It had a familiarity that he never had in his travels on Gaea, but this was a place he could rest and call his own. "You're doing a fine job so far," he murmured softly.

He felt the slight shift from the ex-General, but he knew that Sephiroth could see very little of his face. He remained still and thoughtful even as those words washed over him, and they caused his jaw to work silently. "You give me plenty," he finally settled on.

Once on the ground, Saya turned back, quickly reaching for the store's door. She grabbed from her pocket what seemed to be a small manicure kit, except instead of manicure tools, she had a pick and a tension wrench.

Yes, she usually carried that around. Not that many would know about that, but not many knew about her paranoia.

The girl then begun picking up the lock, panting because of her nerve, since this had to be done fast and they had things behind them wanting to eat them alive. Her hands were shaking and she was pretty much fighting against the lock to open it up.

"Come on, come on, come on" when there was a click, Saya tried to open the door with a kick, but it didn't move. "Fuck, you fucking shitty thing, open up! I'm not gonna die here, you fucking as-" and there was another click, this time it opened. "Yes!"

The force knocked the wind out of Kadaj, sending him straight to the ground. With a growl, his hand automatically reached for Souba but only grasped at empty air. Old habits die hard. Kadaj’s lips curled with a slow, mischievous grin that broke out into laughter. It was soft at first, and then crescendoed into something much louder. The madness wavelength seeped through his veins, altering his perception on the proper action to take.

“Good, brother! Good! I was beginning to think you had turned weak. But look at you now!” The remnant remained seated on the cold ground. He glanced over Cloud and took in the whole situation, smiling. “Just as I thought, you’re still one of us. Mother was right for still wanting you.” Of course, Mother was always right.

The laughter died down into a chuckle. He ducked his head slightly, glaring intensely through loose silver fringes. “If you want to hurt me, go ahead! You’ll be no better than me!” The grip on his knife held steady, just in case. “You’re giving into your true nature! So, go ahead! Do it!”

Kadaj carelessly settled onto his back. Hysterical laughter quickly rose again as old memories swirled freshly in his mind. “I remember hurting that Cetra girl you care so much for! I left bruises on her face and all she did was stand there and take it! Tch. Pathetic. Did she tell you, brother?”

He scooped up a small pile of pebbles and squeezed tightly. They fell through the cracks of his fingers. “I crushed a little bug in her presence and she almost burst into tears! Ha! No wonder you prefer the other girl. She’s much more. . .” he made a motion with his hand as he tried to think of the right word, “durable.”

“I owed it to Loz to play with her again. Hn. I left her alive so that you could finish her off.” Kadaj sat back up. He casually dusted himself off. “I made it easy for you to find her,” he said with a snicker. “Just follow the trail of blood!”

Sephiroth had never had a home of his own before. It was something that he had been hoping to attain once he had left Gaea behind. More often than not, he felt as though he was simply fumbling around in the dark when it came to him creating one for Cloud, and he was never quite certain if he was doing it right or not. "I try with the limited knowledge I have," he murmured in return, quietly admitting to his weakness and inexperience on the topic.

His hand trembled slightly with effort as it remained grasping Cloud's own. The stillness of his partner was one he wasn't certain what to make of it all, but he did what he could to consider the words spoken in return. Nodding his head lightly, the ex-General accepted what Cloud had said. He knew where his limitations were, and the fact that he had much that he couldn't offer his partner. Yet the thought that he could offer even a small amount was enough for him. He had never been given the opportunity to learn how to do much of anything with others outside of military tactics and how to mentally and physically torment them.

Yako exhaled softly as the hubbub upstairs broke out. "We're in pretty tight quarters now, you know? Like I said, a last resort." She slid down the shelf and sat on the floor, tucking her legs to one side neatly. There was no place to run, literally, so she figured it wouldn't hurt to wait things out while comfortable, or as close to comfortable as possible.

When he asked about the ladder, she was grateful that she was already on the ground. One of her handscurled around her ankle and she stared at the floor for a moment, gathering her thoughts. "This old man I knew back home..." A nostalgic, sad smile stole across her face. "He was a genius. And I'm not being polite or tossing that word around lightly. He was probably Einstein caliber. He...could do these amazing things with cardboard; something about the angles and layers and folding. He had a three-story house made entirely out of it...or rather, I do now." She rubbed her shin lightly. "Then, couple that with the fact that if a lever can move the world, then it follows that it should be able to halt it too..." She shrugged, foding her hands in her lap.

Lily followed his glance and looked over her own shoulder. The street seemed to be clear for now but it was uncertain how long that would last.

She frowned a bit. "You should probably go home and lock your doors." While she was willing to take risks herself, she tried to keep others out of the way of supernatural harm.

Tomoe couldn't help but feel the fool then. For almost two months she had been hearing of this war but had not actually seen it--it was a concept before anything else. Even with what had happened in December, it seemed so detached and isolated that it never clicked.

Megumi screamed without even thinking as the battle was getting more and more gruesome. She covered her face with both kimono sleeves, crouching down and pressing against the wall in fear. She wasn't sure what those birds (if they could be called birds) would do once they grabbed a person, but she'd seen a hawk catch a fish from a river and shred it to pieces once before, and she figured it would be along those same lines.

This was really a nightmare, in an extremely different way from any of the tough times she'd experienced since the battle of Aizu Castle. All she could do was curl her head to the wall and her knees and hope that it would be over soon. Megumi was a scientist, one who only believed in things that could be proven by experimentation. As such, she didn't really believe in gods or Buddha like many people she knew, but she found herself repeating in her mind: please let this end, please let me wake up again.
