Characters: Kou Shuurei (
flowering_tea) and Kamiya Kaoru (
givingsword)
Location: Shuurei’s apartment (Casualty Communal 11D)
Rating: PG in case a sewing accident occurs
Time: December 14th, afternoon, after this thread (Backdated)
Description: Shuurei tries to teach Kaoru how to sew so she can work on Christmas presents...
Shuurei put a kettle of water on the stove to boil while she waited for Kaoru. Although she hadn’t made any steamed buns that day, she could at least offer her new friend a cup of tea before the lesson started.
As the water heated, she retrieved the sewing implements she had purchased since arriving in Death City: a small pair of scissors, a packet of sewing needles, and a few spools of thread in different colors. She had used these to stitch together a replica of the plain everyday outfit she had worn back home. There were also some scraps of fabric leftover from that project and they would be perfect for practicing on. She placed the sewing items on the kitchen table and waited for the other girl to arrive.

“He sounds a bit difficult to handle.” She pulls some thread from her spool although that doesn’t stop her from noticing Kaoru’s smile seems a bit forced. “But I suppose he’s not here if you haven’t seen him recently. Were you separated when you were pulled here? One of the friends I was with also wound up here but the others didn’t and I’ve been worried about them.”

A mock-scowl at her first comment, as she nodded with fondness in her face, before she commented on the second, and her face fell, hands going to her lap. "..We were in a battle. " Kaoru said softly, lowering her eyes. " Kyoto was overrun by this group of warriors who served a madman, Shishio Makoto. While Kenshin went to fight Shishio, we stayed at the Aoiya, and Shishio sent the remainder of his men to kill all of us off. We all fought for our lives.." The memories came rushing back, the sheer panic of watching Yahiko stand in the face of a giant.
"At the last moment, before I arrived here, Yahiko was about to be killed--I was so helpless. I was certain that I had died before arriving here..but once I met Kenshin and the others who came here, I realized that I was from a time before theirs, and that in reality..all of us kept our promise. To go home to Tokyo together. But--" She stared at her tea. "..I don't think I'll be able to rest fully until I see Yahiko with my own eyes. " She scowled. "And give him the beating of his life!"
Back from Hiatus! Sorry this took so long!
Her face grows concerned as Kaoru relates what happened before she was brought to Death City. “How awful! Of course, you’re right to be worried about your apprentice.” Although Shuurei hoped Kaoru wasn’t really serious about giving Yahiko a beating.
She blinked in surprise as she realized the implications of what the other girl told her. “Then, it really is possible to come from different times? I was very worried about my friends Ensei and Tan-Tan when I first arrived here because the last thing I remembered was our boat going over a waterfall. My friend Ryuuren was also here and he claimed he was from a different time and that everyone would be fine. But he tends to say such nonsensical things that I didn’t really believe him.” She sighed. Shuurei supposed she owed Ryuuren an apology for not believing him that time. She’d try to refrain from complaining the next time he showed up on her balcony in the middle of the night, wanting to stargaze, or came to her with a random dinner order.
No, no! Don't be! Welcome back. c:

Changing the subject, she smiled, picked up her scissors and cut some thread. "Why don't I show you how to sew a hem first?"
now i'm late!!!!!
At the subject-change, Kaoru was eager to oblige. "That sounds easy enough! Please, I'll do whatever you tell me to!"
I meant to send Shuurei to visit Kaoru in the clinic but I've been lazy and behind...>_>;;
Smiling at Kaoru’s enthusiasm, Shuurei instructed, “First, you need to thread a needle and tie a knot at the end.” She held her hands somewhat farther than shoulder width apart. “About this much should be a good length. If it’s too short, you’ll have to stop and thread your needle a lot. And if it’s too long, the thread can tangle.”
