Description: Cross takes his partner out for a real date.
[It usually happens when Cross tries to woo a woman. He charms her and takes her out on a very interesting date- interesting only because trouble tended to find Cross at the worst times. With Zatanna it was different; he wasn't an Exorcist, a walking target, he could have an actual date with a woman. It was hard to find a nice quiet spot in the middle of the city where the stars would be so vivid.
It was hard to try and find food that he could take as take out, but she didn't need to know that he begged one of the girls from the cabaret to cook for him for a date. Usually, he'd send for a carriage, but this wasn't the 1800s and no one used horses here. Limo service? He had find someone who'd bring her here in style. Cross tugged as his boot, hoping that it'd hide how short the pants were. It was hard being a giant and finding a good suits last minute; thankfully Allen's name helps him with the cost of all this.
So, all he has to do is wait and try not to be hideous as always. He can do that, right? ]

She put on the dress he got for her (it fit like an glove; she honestly wouldn't be all that surprised if he were to know her exact measurements). She's done her hair up -- a rarity, sans a sloppy ponytail every now and then, often while cooking -- and clearly knows how to dress up when she feels like it.
She arrives as directed, looking around as she exits the limo.] Hello?
no subject
He was a strange person for hoping it would rain.]
A pleasure to see you, Mistress Zatara. [A bow low and a kiss on the hand before he stood up to offer her his arm.] Shall we?
no subject
As much as I appreciate the effort put into this -- and as cute as you are while doing it -- I'd prefer to be on a date with my partner, not the sort of guy my partner thinks that I want him to be. [She wouldn't say much more on the subject; thus far, she has done an excellent job with not addressing her feelings for him (or even thinking about them on her lonesome) too much. It was safer for the both of them if they didn't look into it too much, right?]

[One day, maybe. But at the moment he was content with how things are.]
I don't get to have proper dates, once people hear that there's an Exorcist General in town, I'm just a huge target.
[He turns his head to look at her.] Unless you want to come with me to the pub and we can drink all night before we get into a brawl.
no subject
[She brushes some hair out of her eyes and smiles up at him.] Something similar like that, for me. Except I don't often get challenged intentionally.
Is that what you'd like? [She honestly isn't completely against it, but she can be a bit of a light-weight when it comes to drinking.] I'm just glad I get to spend the evening with you.

[It's true. In all his life, he's never had a partner that looked out for him. He's had partners like Nea, whom he promised to look after Mana but never his own back. It's odd for him to have someone that he can trust with his own life, rather than him having the overwhelming sense to leave them for their own good.
Subconsciously, he pulls her closer fondly.]
I'm content just being with you. If it was raining, it would be better, I doubt you'd want to get wet.
no subject
[She has people that she can trust with her life, but not anyone that she is particularly close to. Not someone she sees frequently or anything, back home. Even John's presence is few and far between. The Stranger is sporadic, at best. More often than not, she is alone.
She does not like to admit how much it bothers her -- at least not to other people.]
If I was wearing something else, maybe. This wouldn't exactly be comfortable or easy to walk around in. It wouldn't be any trouble, if I could use my magic... [It's almost wishful thinking, like she had briefly forgotten that it was all who she was, that it was part of her very being.] But I'm a big girl. If it were to rain, I could handle it.

[It's a little depressing that after all this time, it was until he was pulled out of his own world that he had to depend on people. But, he's learned that people can deceive you in an instant and it's those who live longer than the ones that stay loyal to you.
Suddenly, he becomes more deep in thought than he usual self. Maybe it's that he worries about her too, maybe it's become common knowledge that he's attached to her - but there's no hit out for him here.
He looks up, sort of hoping for it to start storming.]
Then I'd carry you, but nothing would be more perfect than if it started to storm. There's just something about it that just makes everything perfect. Of coure, then I'd have to strip you when we got back, get you warm... Heh.
no subject
[It's a joke, albeit a bad one. She peers at him out of the corner of an eye, maybe just a touch worried about him. Even when he's serious, it never seems to last long...]
I've always preferred fog, myself. [She elbows him on his side, playfully.] And here I thought you intended to do that, anyway.
no subject
He snaps out of it, giving her a win.]
Maybe I wanted to try a new approach. Besides, I hope you're wearing fishnets under that. I would have wanted you to wear something more Victorian, but I figured after the corset and bloomers you'd want to punch me in the face. But stop talking about this, I want to make it through dinner.

[When you've got money like she does, you can afford the kind with real boning. She does not, however, tighten it so much her internal organs are out of shape; Zee's never really found that weirdly, creepily small waist sort of thing attractive, anyway.] It's a little unfortunate that I can't use my magic here so I'm stuck with only a few options for my costume.
[A reassuring, almost condescending pat on the back.] I'm sure you can handle it, babe.
HI SORRY IM LATE
No, I like it better this way, I've always been sort of a minimalist anyway.
[He lays kiss on her hand, lingering for just longer than a moment longer than what's decent.] I will have to resist, but I warn you might I be insatiable if you make me wait too long.
ARE YOU ARE YOU SORRY
[Not that she's been putting forth any effort to have any shows since her second arrival. She's still in a bit of a creative funk, especially without the huge financial well she could always fall back on to help her. She could busk, sure, but she's always preferred more complex and grandiose tricks and illusions.
Gently, she tugs her hand away, affectionately clasping her fingers around the tips of his own before letting them go completely.] I'm flattered that you think I wasn't aiming for that.
YSES I AM.
[To be honest, the lack of the Vatican makes him more comfortable. He doesn't have their resources back in England either. Though the notion of staring the barrel of his own gun is something he doesn't want to remember at the moment. He doesn't realize that he squeezes just a little too tightly when he thinks about it- oh she let go.]
I think I'm outmatched in that respect, don't you?
O-OH
[She catches something from him, but doesn't bring it up. He would have told her about it, if he was interested in it. Maybe later.]
Just a little. Where are we going, by the way?
no subject
[that was really romantic cross, really top notch.]
It took me forever to find a good enough spot, we'll be eating in the dark - sort of. I modified one of the golems to be flying tea lights.
no subject
[But do you really want to hear about Boston Brand and his perfect ghostly buns?]
Oh, yeah. Those cute things, right? [A touch of a coo to her tone; she really likes them.]
no subject
[he doesn't bring up the corpse that he manipulated to be a weapon, because really why spoil the night?]
They're not really supposed to be cute, but yeah, those things. [look at them fluttering about like giant fireflies.] I figured that candles were just a little too boring for a woman of your caliber.
no subject
[And boy oh boy does he sometimes make it hard to remain friends with him. Truly, their friendship meets at the point where they both enjoy harassing Bruce.]
Fine, incidentally cute things. [She seems incredibly pleased by this, letting go of his arm to move a few steps ahead, spinning around as she watches them.] Candles would have been fine, but you're right -- I prefer this. It's wonderful, Cross.
no subject
[He breaks free from her to pull out her chair.] If you would have a seat, I asked the girls at the Cabaret to cook since the only things I can cook are terrible.
[Sadly for him, the girls can't cook either. So, they have ...
Cheese sandwiches.]
Oh.
no subject
Her expression is grateful as she takes the seat offered to her. He's being super-cute and it's pretty obvious Zatanna is taking great pleasure out of the way he's acting tonight.]
I've come to realize that I'm the one with the domestic skills. [She says it like they're married.] Ah, that's... [Her expression falls momentarily. At least they didn't put meat on it, right? She can't complain.] Bon appétit?
no subject
one thing.
just one thing.
dammit, he'd have to reveal that he could cook. he'd lose that edge. he doesn't want to cook, zatanna.]
N-No, forget eating. Once we get back, I'll ... figure out how to boil pasta or something. At least we have wine?
[that he stole from work.]
no subject
You know I enjoy cooking, right? I understand you're trying to make tonight perfect, but I like it. [She bags you a healthy, homemade lunch every day (complete with cute little note inside), do you think she does it out of duty? Nah. She slides her hands over the table to meet his and give them a squeeze.] And I want you to be happy, as well.
no subject
[it's rare for cross to offer a sincere smile, but he does give it to her.] Believe me when I say that this is the happiest I've been in a long time.
no subject
[She seems flattered by that statement. She responds by ducking her head coyly.] I miss people from home, but I'm... not very happy. Back there. I like being here -- you know, with you.
no subject
[He looks up and throws his boots on the table, the idea of propriety thrown out the window the moment that his plans were dashed. After all, when it comes down to it, he's really not at all that suave around people that he really cares about. At some point, he forgets that he doesn't need to hide who he really is anymore.]
It's rare that I get to sit outside alone and look a the sky. I breeze into towns and then word spreads that a General's in town and the next thing I know, I'm fighting off Akuma. I rarely, rarely just get to sit and just look up.
[Though he's pushed all the way back, he throws her a glance.] It's even better with someone else.
no subject
[Zatanna's not so much of a slob, really, and only likes to keep her feet up when she's laying on the sofa (especially with her shoes on). She does, however, allow her elbows to find a comfortable place on the table.]
It's all I do, really, when I'm not fighting. I don't often have long-term companions. [That word fits more aptly than anything else, considering how short-term they are.] Tonight's really beautiful, though. You picked a good night.
no subject
Though, he has a better example that just letting her rest on the table. He gets up, pulling out the tablecloth from under the table (please be impressed at that trick and going to find a spot on the ground to lay it on.]
Maybe this is better. [He doesn't really give her the option, he scoops her up like she's nothing because in reality, she's sleeping with a ginger giant and lays her on the tablecloth.]
no subject
A little better. [She doesn't give him the chance to settle down beside her, instead pulling him down for a chaste kiss on the mouth.]
no subject
[he welcomes her kiss and forces himself to roll off of her and pull her tightly against his broad chest. If he had stayed a moment longer, he would have taken her right there on the blanket.]
This is more like it, I think.
no subject
[That's not the way to keep your job. If you have to be indecent in public, at least do it where you're certain your boss won't catch you, right? Not that it hadn't crossed her mind at all.]
How domestic. [Which, brings up another point. She clears her throat and scoots a little closer.] We've come pretty far from our initial agreement, haven't we?
no subject
[It wouldn't be the first time that his bosses found out that he'd been indecent in public. In fact, Cross often went out of his way to piss the Vatican off.]
Is this a milestone? I didn't know. I would have gotten you some jewelry.
no subject
[Ohhh Miss Zatanna, ohhh. She couldn't help it, though. It was said in a pleasant, teasing tone. Not the slightest bit of arrogance, though she has every right to be conceited on occasion.]
Something like that, but I don't need anything. I'm just content being with someone I care about.
no subject
That's excellent, because Roy doesn't pay me enough to get you something nice. [and really he'd pin it on Allen but she doesn't need to know the obvious.] Look, but I still can give you something. [He sits up, tilting his head to the side and trying to find an earring that he'd like. The one that dangles is a radio transmitter that he keeps for keepsake, one given to him by Anita and another - ah, this one that he bought when he first got it pierced.]
This is actually worth a lot, I found out.
no subject
[She looks at him and without rolling her eyes, manages to give off the mentally-rolling-eyes sort of vibe.] Don't blame it on him. And I don't -- [She places her hand on his wrist, pulling his arm down when he's finished.] -- I don't need anything, okay? [She can't fit her hand around the entirety of his wrist, but she still gives it an affectionate little squeeze.] I'm just happy being with you.
no subject
[He doesn't even hesitate saying it as he puts his earrings in her ear.] Sometimes, I get sort of jealous too you know. [Even though he didn't show it through that whole Spike incident, but maybe she's crossed that threshold that he's scared she's in.]
Just - [He doesn't finish his sentence, not that it matters, he pulls her in this time to kiss her.]
no subject
Hm--[Oh, okay. This is fine with her. She tilts her head up and grins against his mouth.]
no subject
You were saying?
no subject
I, ah. [She ducks her head, coyly, grinning widely. More than aware that she's being a huge dork right now, she simple shakes her head and laughs.] Another time, maybe.
no subject
He's done horrible things in the name of war and God, some that he wish didn't define him and some that he refuses to. He likes her too much to know what sort of man she's with. At least for now, anyway.
No, keep being a dork, he thinks it's really cute.]
You're very cute, you know that?
