Light it up. [CLOSED]

Characters: Everyone involved in the Vriska plot!
Location: All over Death City
Rating: PG or higher for violence, I guess?
Time: Evening onwards~
Description: Vriska's been spotted. Let's get this show on the road, folks.

[As the posts on the network will show, Vriska has been spotted lurking around tonight. The Watch, of course, is itching to get on the scene.

The chase is on, ladies and gentlemen.]

OOC NOTES:
+ Coordination post is here, with this thread outlining the flow of the chase.
+ The posts to the network haven't gone up yet, but we can proceed with the tagging here anyway on the assumption that Rise will be the one who will inform the Watch about the chase down. Roy's post will be going up whether this happens or not, and he'll have the IC details for the OOC plotting that we've done for this event.
+ I've broken the log down in the comments you'll see below this post, divided according to participants and location - action log or prose log, it doesn't matter since I want you guys to do what you're comfortable with. XD Did it this way so that we can speed things along or hop to the next part whenever we want to, and adjust accordingly. We can even do different parts simultaneously, especially if threads stall.
+ I'd highly suggest that participants track what is relevant to them here in order to get an idea of how things are going down. If you have any questions, poke me or Raile!

Vriska leapt backwards sharply, landing low in a smooth and practised crouch. Her eyes glittered as she laughed with unrestrained mirth, her peeling back to reveal her teeth in a long, sinister grin--several fangs, broken or missing, lended a gruesome cast to her visage; the overall effect, with her battered face and blackened eyes, was nearly disturbing. Possibly actually so.

"Hahahahahahahaha! Do you think you can catch me?" She wasted no time waiting for answers, however, slashing open a new portal with the wicked blade, her smile and Cheshire's lining up perfectly for one brief, terrifying second before she vanished.

Her reappearance was out of sight, high atop a nearby building.

Karkat had to stop and take a moment to admire Kanaya's handiwork while Vriska posed in front of him. Nice. Hell of a way to make a bitch pay.

Still, he was in no mood for Vriska's usual taunts and games, and the fact that she had a weapon that let her teleport was just... well, one more point in his argument about how much paradox space hated him. Seriously, when was something going to work in his favor.

Pissed off now, he looks to Selendis. She's not pleased either, he can feel it, and it's up to her to choose their next move.

uhh tl;dr? :o

Selendis lunged for Vriska, too slow by a fraction of a second. She pulled up short of the portal as it closed, not knowing how it worked or how dangerous it could be for her and Karkat. Warp technology was complicated even by her people's standards.

Vriska didn't reappear. Selendis turned in a slow circle, eying every shadow and listening for the faintest sound, but the troll was gone. She stood still in the middle of the street, ready for a fight that had run off in a direction she couldn't follow. At least, not yet.

She could feel Karkat's anger, and last time it had slowed her down and threatened their resonation. When they were both calm, they resonated without a problem. When they were both angry, well, that was something that hadn't happened yet. The morning training sessions only taught them so much, and offered limited opportunities. There wasn't much to prepare them for what they'd really be doing out here.

Right now, Selendis was angry. Her fury rose to match Karkat’s, and their resonation didn’t falter or break apart. If she stopped to think about it, she’d notice their resonation was probably the best it had ever been, but she was too focused on Vriska, and where she’d gone.

She reached out with her mind, careful not to go too far, looking for that same alien mind she’d invaded once before. It wasn’t hard to find her – Vriska hadn’t gone as far as she’d thought, just up and out of sight. Selendis withdrew from the troll’s mind as quickly as possible, but she suspected Vriska would know she’d been there. She ran for the building that Vriska had teleported to, leaping up to grab the emergency railing to start her climb, axe balanced in one hand.

There's kind of a run on here but I am so tired it's not funny.

Oh.

Vriska certainly felt that, and she recoiled, her lips pulling back reflexively in a convulsive combined snarl and sneer, but Selendis retreated before she could rebuke her, and then her bold, decisive action--what came next... that earned a short, predatory smile from the troll crouched on the roof.

Advance or abscond?

With a look at Cheshire--short, conspiratorial, cunning, smug--she cut open a new portal and leapt into it dramatically, leaving Selendis halfway up the wall...

...while she appeared back on the street below.

Karkat has never felt anger like this from Selendis before, but if there's one thing he can handle, it's that particular emotion. Though they're fairly new to the alien disease known as resonation, he's finding that bouncing it right back at her, amplified, feels something like second nature. Really, he's used to being pissed off, so having his partner feel the same way for once is actually kind of... comfortable.

She might have spotted Vriska first on the roof, but Karkat with his wider perception is the first to catch her on the ground.

Without realizing he's doing it,, he calls for her attention through their resonation.

"There! On the ground!"

She stopped climbing at Karkat's warning, head snapping down to see where Vriska had wound up. She didn't move for a moment, practically seething at the implications of what the runaway troll would and could do. That Weapon was going to keep her just out of reach, and Selendis did not enjoy that kind of runaround.

She was just going to have to be faster, then. The resonation with Karkat was fueling her drive and her adrenaline, and all that anger was focused solely on Vriska. The Protoss may have had a violent streak spanning centuries, but they had learned how to channel it to their advantage. This wasn't the same as an army of Templar clashing against the Zerg, but it had its parallels.

Selendis stared down at Vriska, debating for a moment before pushing into her mind once again. Anything to tip her off balance. "You will cease."

Before she'd even finished speaking, Selendis braced both feet against the wall and shoved off. When she landed on the concrete, she'd be right next to Vriska - assuming the troll remained stationary.

[--!

Get. Out!
]

Vriska's rage, pure and unadulterated, flashed suddenly over her resonation, shattering it briefly--but it poured hot and clear into Selendis, lasting only a second before her connection to Cheshire jump-started with a sharp spark; cutting herself a new portal, she stepped in, severing any remaining mental link with the Protoss Meister.

Naturally, she came back out atop the building again.

Grinning.

If Karkat were at a keyboard right now, he'd be smashing those keys like fruit at a Gallagher event. As it is though, he snarls with barely-contained rage and continues to resonate with Selendis, taking her anger and frustration and sending it back twice as strong.

"Ugh, this is fucking stupid! We don't have to--"

Wait, why is he saying this out loud? He glances up at Vriska, then tries again on the Selendis-only channel they'd finally opened.

"--we don't have to catch her, just drive the bitch forward!"

[identity profile] justiceisdue.livejournal.com 2011-04-01 08:19 pm (UTC)(link)
Well that hadn't worked at all, had it? The sudden disruption of their resonation slowed her down and Vriska escaped again - the exact opposite of what she'd wanted. That was the last time she was testing the limits of her Meister ability without Tassadar, or without any real training. The reminder that she'd been robbed of what she was born with just inflamed her fury. Watching Vriska teleport away didn't help matters.

Selendis was already running for the building again, but stopped dead at Karkat's words. She had been so focused on the two of them hunting her down, she neglected to remember Mustang and the rest of the Watch. With Vriska being able to teleport, they were going to need everyone involved.

She didn't verbally respond to Karkat, but he could tell she was pleased with his assessment. She was completely out of her element in this city, and he understood their prey far more than she did. Their resonation helped as well - it wasn't the same as the Khala, but the connection was familiar to her. It grounded her, despite the heated emotion they were sharing.

Instead of chasing Vriska head on, Selendis ran for the next building over. The directions Mustang had given them were clear in her mind, and she intended to start herding Vriska towards the others. She'd just have to come at her from another direction that wasn't from below.

Just had to what?

Vriska turned, watching Selendis run; her eyes narrowed, brow creased and fangs showing over her lower lip. As soon as they were out of range, she slashed another portal and stepped through it, reappearing in front of the alien and cutting her off with a grin and a snarl.

Oookay, so Selendis doesn't handle anger the way he can. Karkat flips his shit so often and so hard that he's actually pretty good at functioning despite levels of rage that'd give most people a brain embolism.

He reluctantly holds back on the resonation, reigning in the battle fury he had been bouncing back onto Selendis -- she obviously wasn't able to handle the full force of his anger and hers combined. Something else they're going to have to work on, he guesses, but for right now they just need to get Vriska to move toward the trap.

He doesn't quite understand what Selendis is up to when she climbs yet another building not even close to where Vriska's standing, but then the nosy Scorpio follows them.

Oh. That works. If they can't chase her, maybe she'll chase them.

"Look, Vriska, step off for once! Nobody said shit about portals, we're not even fucking around with this. I'm serious."

And to Selendis: "Keep moving. Act like we're trying to abscond."

It wounds his pride a little to have to do it this way, but it'll be worth it if they actually manage to bring the girl and cat down.

[identity profile] justiceisdue.livejournal.com 2011-04-16 01:22 am (UTC)(link)
Selendis backed off when Vriska appeared in front of her, sinking down into a defensive posture. She wasn't catching the troll with her bare hands anytime soon, so she really had no intention of going towards her. The axe in her hand wasn't raised, but the blade was tilted for Karkat to be able to see, and be seen.

There was nothing for her to say to Vriska, but her eyes locked on the grinning troll. Her emotions were leveling out a little bit, despite the adrenaline still firing through her veins. She took a few steps back, watching Vriska, before she stepped up onto the edge of the building. A retreat, by the looks of it, but inching towards Mustang and the rest.

"We will do what we must," she said to Karkat, sensing that sting in his pride. "We will prevail."

Her people had had to abandon their entire planet in order to survive, pride be damned. This was nothing in comparison.
