Characters: Allen Walker & Rhode Kamelot
Location:Creeping Crypt Unit 1G
Rating: PG
Time: October 24th, morning; Right after her conversation with Spirit.
Description: Rhode has a warning for the boy she fancies, but it seems she's a bit too late...
She was something of a mess, this morning. Running out of the apartment without so much as a shower, Rhode has just thrown on her boots and a dress, ruffling her hair up and out of her face as well as she could manage. She had to get to Allen, to tell him what she had realized-- And telling him over the network was out of the question, when she didn't know for certain.
She'd seen his eyes, though. She knew, at least, that the Allen she had first spoken to was the real one. And he had told her where he lived, in that new complex they'd built for newcomers. The Creeping Crypts was only a short run from the Heights, and Rhode wasn't completely winded by the time she pulled open the doors and slipped inside.
Once she figured out which letters ran down which side of the building, she sprinted down the hallway, sliding to a halt in front of G and knocking far too loudly and forcefully on the door. This was urgent. He needed to open now, now, now.
"Allen! Allen, open the door, I need to tell you something."

The pounding wouldn’t stop.
But that was strange, after all there was no one else in his head anymore, no one to chip away at that fractured “self” that was Allen. It should have been a relief but in the end it was just… a nightmare. He didn’t realise he was clutching his head between his hands or that it muffled the pounding until a few minutes later.
How long had it been there? If it was anyone else in this city Allen would have ignored it, feigned sleep or absence but it was Rhode. She needed to be out of here, without her powers as a Noah she was just a small girl, physically at least. And while he didn’t know the details behind what happened with the Fourteenth…that man was not safe, for anyone but least of all his supposed family.
He stumbled to stand, discovering new aches that hadn’t been there the day before. He grasped her wrist firmly when he openned the door, tugging her into his room…hopefully before anyone else had noticed her in the hall. “Rhode, don’t be so loud.”

He couldn't have been here already. There was a mistake, that had to be it, and the Fourteenth was still trapped inside Allen's mind. But split personalities...
"The other Allen."
Rhode didn't know what else to say, really; there was nothing that could really complete the thought clearly in her mind right now, and there was still some hope that if she didn't say it aloud, it couldn't be true. Silly ideas for naive children, she knew, but after all this time, when things had finally started to feel alright in this city, she wanted so hard to believe that things could work that way.
She was breathing far too heavily. Perhaps she shouldn't have run, despite the urgency; she still wasn't that well-exercised, despite the training she'd been doing in the last few weeks.
"... The Death Scythe said it's impossible. That it would have to be split personalities, or more than one soul."

He smiled humourlessly, that sing-song voice echoing in his head. It seemed like it was even louder than before, which made no sense at all, right? “It’s him Rhode, you’d know if you saw him.”
And it’d be best if that man didn’t see Rhode, if he hadn’t already noticed her come to find him. He peered outside the door as if to make sure he wasn’t still lurking around, Allen wasn’t sure what to expect from him honestly. “You shouldn’t stay here, I can… I can walk you back halfway,” what was he trying to do, protect her? It was absurd and pointless; the Fourteenth knew that Rhode was here, it was only a matter of when he’d find her.

But instead, she stood perfectly still, staring at Allen with a slightly ill expression. It wasn't entirely dignity or pride that kept her in place, though she wished it were. She was frightened. Somewhere, in this city, the man who had slaughtered her Family was waiting.
Her partner was somewhere in the city, wandering around. If Nea got to him, or any of the others, it would be just like the last time. But now, against only humans, he would be able to do even worse.
"You need to go to the clinic, don't you." Her voice was a bit flat as she reached out, grabbing for his arm with less force than she was likely capable of mustering. "I can take you to the hospital, if you don't know where it is. I'll get myself home from there."

Allen pulled back from her grasp, shaking his head stubbornly. “I don’t, it’s just minor.” It was certainly barely anything compared to the injuries he was used to, compared to injuries Rhode had inflicted. Actually maybe he should have been used to all of it, confusion, uncertainty, physical pain, even anger. His life was the same as ever.
“I’ll be fine after some rest,” it’d take more time here but even still he couldn’t imagine that he’d be down long, it just wasn’t an option. “If you can manage back on your own just make sure you’re not followed.”

Really, if he protested, she was entirely prepared to shove him, or punch him-- something to get him to listen to her. "If you don't go, I'm not going anywhere at all. Either get to the clinic, or I'll stay here. I'll stay here and I'll-- I'll call the stupid doctors and make them come and fix you up."
Glaring, nastily, she put her fists very firmly on her hips. "I'll make a scene, and I know you'll hate every minute of it."

“It’s not like I just let him get off without fighting back,” he pressed his face into his hand, reluctant but knowing when he’d lost. Her staying here wouldn’t be good if he did come back. Their bodies were the same, at the very least Allen was evenly matched against his weight and build. “I’ll go, you don’t have to come with me! Just go back to your place and don’t go anywhere alone.”
no subject
"If I go right home, he'll know exactly how to follow me. I'll just... walk you to the general area of the clinic. Then I'll find my own way home." With a few detours to make sure she wasn't being followed, but Allen didn't need to know that.
Now that she knew he was here for certain, her mind was already racing to figure out ways to avoid him. Ask someone else to buy her pastries for her, perhaps try to get out of the city for a mission-- Several missions? That wouldn't do much good, in the long run. She couldn't be on missions every day, with the way those came out. But that could be figured out later. For now...
"Do you know where he is? Does he know where I am?"

Even if he didn’t know yet Allen had no doubt that he would find out at some point, it was just holding off the inevitable, just buying time. “I’m not sure, better to be safe though.” The only comfort was that all of them were only human here, there was only so much harm he could do, right?
“Rhode…what is he after?” With the way their encounter had gone Allen could only assume the worst.

She turned toward the door, taking a few steps closer to it. Leaving was a good idea, and quickly. She'd take care of Allen, then get back to the safety of her partner's side.
"A game. Something entertaining, to keep him from getting bored."
Rhode didn't feel like supplying the rest of his goal, instead pushing a bit of hair behind her ear. He was going to try to finish what he started, of course; come after her. Kill her. Perhaps find some creative ways to make her suffer, first. Thirty-five years couldn't change someone like him that much, after all.

He could see that Rhode was shaken, scared even. Even in the Ark when he’d slashed through Tyki she hadn’t reacted like this.
“I see, but he can’t just do whatever he wants here. He’s just as human as everyone else here.”
no subject
"I imagine he'll find a way to have his fun, regardless."
Somehow, somehow. But how?
"He's mad, but he's certainly not stupid. He's just as capable of finding a way to get his way as the people like us were before."

Back home or here Allen had his own intentions. He was hurt but the Fourteenth wasn’t unscratched either. And when he got back to where he belonged Allen wasn’t handing his body over either, no matter what he was told he’d walk his own road. “Let’s go, I need to get to the clinic since you won’t leave me alone until I do.”
no subject
"Yes, let's. Quickly." The last thing she wanted was to make her partner worry, let alone have him any less happy than he was when she left. Rhode pulled the door open, glancing out into the hall in both directions before stepping out and starting toward the lobby. She was anxious to get out of here, and assumed Allen's slightly longer legs would put him in pace with her quickly enough.
