Description: Date and Dante finally go to take on Black*Star and Tsubaki in a long awaited duel. Things however will not go very smoothly at all.
Perhaps this was not the best thing to do now considering all circumstances and events, but really - this had been held off for far too long, and Date would rather have this over with as soon as possible. There were a lot of other things that he had to concern himself now, and it was really annoying to continuously have to avoid a brat such as him. Dante had agreed to work with him here, which made things a lot easier as well; Date was sure that he wouldn't even need ten minutes to finish this up.
So now here they were at the park, morning training in session everywhere else through Date was concerning himself with it for once - no, instead he was facing the blue-haired obnoxious kid who he was going to fight again, more than ready to get this over with so he can move on. How hard could fighting a kid even be, seriously? He wasn't going to underestimate him of course, but still--
"You ready, kid?" he called out, looking at Black*Star for a moment before turning back to cast a glance at Dante. Sure they had their issues now, but hopefully this would also help in trying to shape up themselves - Date couldn't really see any other way of working together again other than this. Maybe once this was done, Dante would realize that Date was still wanting him as his partner, even if Koujurou was around. Then they could finally get back into gear.

He had just finished his shift two hours earlier and that mixed with his general mood lately meant that he was really not in the best of moods. He was tired, cranky and just generally upset with
Datethe world. This was not the best basis on which to be resonating. He pinched the bridge of his nose and then said. "Come on, let's get this over and done with already." Before he promptly transformed, the claymore stuck in the ground.
no subject
HelmetDate Masamune. And his partner, I guess. He assumed that's who the white-haired dude was. If it weren't for the fact Tsubaki was so set on sparring with these guys he probably wouldn't overly care. They were only One Stars. That being said, if they were going to be serious about this, then they were going to have to even the playing field a bit. Call him what you will, but Black★Star fights fair, and One Stars versus Two Stars is barely even a competition. Frankly Tsubaki could probably take this alone. Or him on his own. Pride is something he understands well, though, and he wouldn't let his partner down.
"Yeah," he said offhandedly. "You get two for free. One shot for each extra star." If he ran in and attacked first, it'd be over quickly. "You sure you wanna fight us seriously?" Even as he spoke he tilted his head faintly in Tsubaki's direction. He didn't even need to say it aloud. Ninja-to.
no subject
Black★Star would fight fair, though. He knew how important this was to her, even though she was pretty sure he was going to get carried away at some point.
Tsubaki turned her face slightly toward her partner, giving him a bright smile and a nod before she transformed without a word. A bright light enveloped her and shrunk rapidly into the spinning short blade, which fell directly into Black★Star's palm.

"Of course I'm sure," Date returned with a frown, reaching out himself so that he could pick up Dante from the ground - only to promptly flinch when he felt a sudden surge of unbearable heat against his palm, hot enough that the samurai let go for a moment and turned to stare at the claymore. What the heck was that?
no subject
It couldn't have been for the lack of trying to work with the guy, Dante wanted to fight. So what was wrong? He couldn't fathom that their problems were affecting their ability to work with each other.
"What the fuck?"
no subject
"What, you guys can't even resonate?" he barked. "You've gotta be kidding me." He knew they were One-Stars, but he didn't realize they were that new. Had they even been on a mission before? Geez. He gave Tsubaki a puzzled look. These were the guys she wanted him to fight? This was a hopeless cause. If they couldn't match wavelengths, then this wasn't even technically a duel. Just an embarrassment.
no subject
She spoke up then, so that the other pair could hear her. Your wavelengths are out of alignment, she said cautiously. The symptoms were unmistakable. You have to listen to and understand one another in order to resonate properly. Otherwise, it could cause both of them pain.
no subject
--don't tell me--Date thought to himself, things slowly clicking now in his head as he clenched his jaw and scowled. Had recent events affected this resonance of theirs? Goddamnit, why was this happening? It wasn't as if he even did anything to deserve this - all of this was Dante's fault; here he was trying, and now instead he got all of this bullshit. This was just a pain in the ass.
"Work with me here, damnit," growled out the warlord as he attempted to grab the claymore again - he only managed to pull it out of the ground before the heat became too unbearable and Date was forced to use his other hand to hold the Weapon instead. At least he was ambidextrous, so that wasn't going to pose a problem. The heat was unbearable though, and Date couldn't even hold the blade for more than a half a minute before he had to shift hands.
no subject
Dante was trying. He honestly was. Briefly their resonance improved just enough so that Date might have felt the stewing emotions that had become characteristic of his moods lately. The annoyance, frustration, along with the emotions that Dante was trying to pretend didn't exist. How upset he was by this whole thing, the hurt and the feeling of uselessness in knowing he couldn't even help those he
cared aboutliked to some degree. That was until he picked up exactly who Date was blaming for this situation, that killed off any chance pretty quickly. Anger and rage overriding his thoughts, making it harder and harder to resonate."I'm fucking trying here." He snarled. What the hell was Date getting at putting the whole blame on him? It was so bad that he even had trouble maintaining his Weapon form.
no subject
So why help?
"Hmm... Is that a forfeit?" he asked nobody in particular, "Or are we trying this another time? I'm kinda busy, y'know." It was a hard life indeed, training to surpass God. Between the newcomers and this epic failure of a duel he was losing way too much time which could've been better spent doing something more productive, like starting construction on that monument to himself. There were now literally dozens of people running around Death City who didn't know of his majesty, and that needed to be remedied immediately.
no subject
Stop arguing and listen to each other, she said, in a slightly more demanding voice that usual. This isn't something you can force. Relax for a second, clear your minds, and try to sense each other. All that anger directed towards one another is only making it worse.
She couldn't see their alignment, but she could hear the way their soul's were rejecting each other. It was hard to listen to. This situation was just like when Maka and Soul had had resonance problems. Trying to force someone to see your point of view was useless; it was about accepting differences and moving past them together.
sigh this is going to go totally well
He scowled at the blue-haired kid's words, pissed off all the more (seriously, who did he think he was?) and then paused at what Tsubaki said. He tried to do what she said, he really did, but the heat was just impossible to ignore and Date growled as he tried to hold onto the claymore for a while longer, glaring at it as he hissed angrily in his mind. Are you just doing this on purpose?
Seriously this was just. Not funny. At all.
no subject
I should be asking you that! He all but shouted back. Date thought this wasn't funny? It's not like Dante found this hilarious either. The effort to make this work was barely there now, so focused was he on arguing his point and refusing to accept any blame on himself.
no subject
Alright, so he was meant to be helping. Unfortunately, there's only one thing he really knows how to do. He spoke under his breath, so that only Tsubaki could hear. "Hey, I have an idea," Black★Star muttered, his eyes shifting conspiratorially, "Just go along with it!" He grinned more widely then, and tilted his head challengingly at the other two.
"Tsubaki! Fey Blade Mode!" he called aloud. If they couldn't get their shit together, he'd simply have to make them work together.
no subject
Stop yelling! she shouted, the odd projection of her voice quite loud. You're both acting like children! You can't blame it on each other when you're supposed to be working together! Legendary samurai or not, this wasn't how grown men were supposed to act.
Tsubaki calmed herself quickly, so when Black★Star whispered to her, she didn't hesitate. He was her Mesiter, and as his Weapon she would obey his will gladly. "Hai!"
The ninja-to in his grip burst into a dark aura, crackling with black lightning as it lengthened into the shape of a much longer blade.
no subject
--but of course, the kid then suddenly pulled out that move out of nowhere and Date turned back to look at the other two, surprised at what they had just pulled out. Alright, so at least they were getting seriously, which was good. Maybe now Dante was going to listen to him and they could get this going.
"We'll discuss this later," he went, jaw clenched as he grasped the claymore with both of his hands and tried to ignore the heat burning through his palms as he readied himself. Fighting the kid shouldn't be too hard, so once he was done with this he and Dante could just hash out this later in their own time.
no subject
Again with the putting the whole goddamn blame on him! This wasn't his fault, he wasn't the one who lied and used him only for their own ends. Dante was absolutely seething with rage right now. It was pretty much impossible for him to be any more pissed off.
He completely ignored Tsubaki's words. She had nothing to do with this and it was something the two of them had to deal with. There was absolutely no need for outside interference.
Dante would have kept arguing if the other pair hadn't decided to attack just because Date said they'll talk about it later. He wasn't the boss of him so why should he listen to his orders?
But the fight was more important and the Weapon tried to focus on that rather then this whole mess between them. Once they beat those guys he could get back to his argument.
no subject
"Let me show you how to resonate," he called aloud in challenge, his voice even. He bowed his head and focused his soul wavelength, but even more importantly, searched out to synchronize with Tsubaki's so as to partially merge their souls. As soon as the reaction began, his eyes snapped open and the air surrounding him rippled and distorted, the surge of power whipping about a cloud of debris at his feet violently.
The least he could do for Helmet and his partner is end this quickly, even if he doesn't plan on severely injuring them. The longer it went, the more likely they were to harm each other. The more imminent the threat, though, the more likely they'd work together to survive. And Black★Star is most definitely a real threat.
no subject
Though, Black★Star still wasn't going to go easy on them. And in a way, she agreed with this. It would teach them not to underestimate their opponents, which was also something clearly at play.
Tsubaki easily reached back out toward her partner with her wavelength, embracing his soul with her own accommodating one, which quickly adapted to his with practiced precision. She began to manipulate the power within them, increasing it several times over and channeling it back through her Meister's body.
Tamashii no Kyōmei!
Her Weapon form shifted in an instant, so quickly that it couldn't be watched. A dark, branded kunai had replaced the long blade, made for speed instead of power. Though that didn't make it any less deadly.
Tsubaki then waited for Black★Star to begin to move. That would lead into the next portion of this Weapon forms abilities. She was looking forward to really showing the other pair what they could do.
THIS WILL BE OVER BY THREE ROUNDS
Not bothering to respond to Dante now (he was just going to be unreasonable anyway and that wasn't going to help at all), the samurai watched as the kid and Tsubaki initiated their resonance, noticing the Japanese quickly. Tamashii no Kyōmei... resonance of the soul, was it...
He could think about that later. Tightening his grip on Dante (and gritting his teeth to withstand the burning heat against his hands), the samurai decided to attack first, bursting forth quickly thanks to his Meister ability as he attempted to make the first strike.
I think that's too generous
Despite their best attempts, it was still plain to see that there were many problems. All the fight did was slightly prolong how long they'd be able to resonate for. Their efforts were like putting a band-aid on a stab wound.
While Date had his Meister ability it was still unable to overcome the difficulty of wielding a Weapon who he could barely resonate with. Their attack was slow and looked absolutely nothing like a move from an highly trained samurai.
no subject
Which was why the blade of Rebellion burst through his chest violently, impaling him to the hilt. He was sharply jerked backwards from the attack, falling, eyes glazed over and limbs seemingly lifeless.
"...Too slow," came the all-too-calm voice of Black★Star, just as the shadow double dissolved into a writhing mass of darkness and the true body of the Meister burst through it, using it as momentary concealment as his hand shot out, seized Date by his front, and shoved him backwards. In the next split second he was gone, because then he was already behind the samurai, dropping low with a sweep-kick to trip him. And then he was just as quickly gone again.
Instead, Black★Star wasn't alone - three of him circled the two of them in a wide circle, moving at a speed so as to allow them to see him. A moment later he picked up the pace, creating five, but also to make his movement harder to follow. In one of his many passes he released Tsubaki from his hand, in preparation for their next move.
no subject
But that changed as her Meister released her, and she slipped easily into the forms of the afterimage he left behind in that moment, melding into it's thin substance and quickly possessing it, masking her form with it.
By all intents and purposes, she looked exactly like Black★Star, a perfect clone. She moved beside the other afterimages, following her Meister's lead.
no subject
--but of course, that wasn't the case at all. The warlord felt his senses ringing as soon as the kid's voice came and tried to turn around to see where he was, only to be stopped by the lightning-fast movements of the other two. There was no time to react, no time to try and regain himself; Date made a grunt as he stumbled from the kick, just barely able to dodge it. He gritted his teeth together as he glanced around him, seeing all the images that surrounded him and tried to compose himself. They were illusions, illusions...
Tightening his grip on Dante, Date readied himself before he swung the blade in a wide arc, attempting to use the Drive attack - but then realized that nothing came out at all, and now more than ever his annoyance rose. Fucking hell, he couldn't even use any of the moves that he could have been able to use! This was just pure bullshit.
no subject
It should have been unsurprising that Date was unable to use Drive. They weren't resonating at all. They were just two stubborn people trying to force things to work.
no subject
In a movement only she was likely to notice given their speed, he made a quick beckoning motion to follow him as he flashed directly in front of their opponents' field of vision. Then, oddly, he slowed to a casual walk. He took three steps, and then suddenly there were more of him as he darted to the right. Three steps, then off to the left. Left, right, left, right... keeping his after-images visible but approaching with deliberation.
Electricity crackled around his fist for a Planet Destruction Cannon, and from the left Black★Star launched forward to strike at Date. Or so it appeared. It was more of a diversion - to focus their attention upon the attacking form, and to throw them off-balance as he smashed the ground just before them with his charged fist. The ground beneath it shattered violently, causing it to shake with a small tremor and debris was kicked up to obscure vision momentarily.
no subject
Tsubaki caught the beckoning gesture that her partner sent her way, but she didn't do so directly, instead concealing herself within the pattern of afterimages that he left behind. He was making her a path, attempting to distract them with a rather obvious and direct approach, trying to leave her an opening.
Internally, she grinned. It was her that had expressed interest in sparring with Date, and he was trying to give her the opportunity to fight for herself, to share his stage with her. It was about the best gift that someone could get from Black★Star, truthfully.
As her partner moved left, crushing the ground and sending a dust cloud full of dirt and debris into the air, Tsubaki sprinted right and toward their opponent. She was still moving as Black★Star would, and so her attack would mimic one of his. Her hands clenched together as she thrust her elbow out toward Date's exposed back. She couldn't use Soul Menace, but caught off guard and her own strength bolstered by her partner's wavelength, it would still be effective.
no subject
It was hard to keep his concentration on the battle when his hands were being seared badly by the heat, and Date barely managed to notice the kid coming to attack him before it was almost entirely too late. The samurai attempted to take a step back in order to avoid the attack, but then stumbled, caught off-balance at the attack done to the ground. Before he could regain his balance there was another strike at his back, and this one was an attack Date wasn't able to avoid in time.
Taken by surprise at the strong blow to his back, Date flew forward, but managed to prevent himself from falling onto the ground properly by impaling Dante into the ground. Smoke continued to spew from where his hands and fingers were wrapper around the handle, but the samurai still tried to ignore that as he turned around and swung the claymore in another arc, attempting to attack once more.
no subject
But then Date did that. The one request Dante had made of him. To not stick him into the ground. And he had just done that without a second thought. It was just the one thing and Date didn't care at all to humour him. To Dante this was just more evidence to prove that Date had never seen them as partners, that he had just been someone to be used when convenient.
It shouldn't have been possible for him to be even angrier then he was before. He let loose a string of expletives. He didn't care about the fight any more. He didn't care that they would lose their first fight after Michigan. Dante wanted nothing more than to ditch them all.
Get your fucking hands off me now. So enraged was he that he couldn't even make the simple effort of making his words heard aloud or even just transforming back.
no subject
Looked like his idea had failed. Danger hadn't made them work together at all, and he knew better than to simply raise the stakes. It sucked, really. It was a waste of Shadow☆Star! But oh well. Best to separate those two before Date Masamune only had burning stumps for hands.
"Tsubaki!" Black★Star called aloud, abandoning the ruse. In the same moment he spoke, he stepped forward and seized both of the samurai's arms from behind, just beneath the shoulder, with a vice-like grip. He could trust his Weapon to avoid the slow attack and disarm them as is, but better safe than sorry, and this way she'd immediately know what his intentions were.
no subject
Black★Star had noticed as well, and as he called out her name and grabbed Date by the arms, she could easily tell his intentions. "Hai!" she called, her distinctly female voice emanated from the mouth of the afterimage that she possessed. As she sped back toward Date, the image of her partner shimmered around her before dissipating as she reverted to her own form.
Black★Star's grip on Masamune's shoulders halted the other Meister's slow attack, so it was easy for her to move in and capture Date's hands within her own, preventing further movement. She spoke in Japanese quickly, her determined gaze locking with his.
"Let go of him, Date-dono," she said firmly. "You are hurting yourself. This fight is over."
no subject
Upon hearing the shout, Date instantly attempted to turn towards it and tried to raise the blade in another swing, but was stopped when he felt fingers gripping his arms tightly all of a sudden. The samurai didn't even have time to see just who it was exactly before Tsubaki came next, and before he even knew it his arms were effectively trapped, gripped to remain in their position. Date glanced at Tsubaki, his lone blue eye casting an obvious glare that didn't falter even with the words that she spoke or the way in how steam and smoke was spewing out literally from Date's hands on the handle of the claymore.
"I'm not--" he tried to start, but another surge of scorching, white hot heat burned right through him again, and unable to hold on any more Date was forced to let go of Dante. Rebellion clattered onto the ground, the handle smoking fiercely - but not as bad as the samurai's own palms, where the heat had been so bad that it had even burned through his gloves and made direct contact with his skin. Date's hands smoked badly, and even though the samurai couldn't feel the pain just yet drops of blood fell from where his skin had broken due to the extreme heat he was forcing himself to handle.
no subject
"You asshole." He hissed before lunging at him. The fact that he was being held down was just going to make this easier for him to beat the living hell out of him.
He hadn't even realised Date was injured, so blinded was he by his own anger.
no subject
The red guy launching himself at Date Masamune. Shit.
As one does when restraining the victim instead of the aggressor, he released the guy immediately and stepped away. Wait, what the hell was this? They couldn't fight him and Tsubaki, but they were all for kicking the shit out of each other?
"Uh... guys," he interjected, raising a finger, "Fight's over... Guys? Guys!" Shit, that wasn't working at all.
"...Well, this doesn't take a genius." And he leaped into the fray.
no subject
Because not only was Dante coming after her (because she was next to his Meister), but now her partner was jumping in as well.
"I said this fight is over!" she yelled, whipping her head around toward the two of boys, one with silver hair and one with blue. Her long ponytail transformed mid-swing into a long chain attacked to a sickle, and it arced around them to wrap around their bodies. Her goal here wasn't to hurt them, but to tie them together and immobilize them.
no subject
Tsubaki then interjected, and while they were busy Date finally looked down at his hands and saw the extent of the damage that was done. His skin was broken in many places, some of them back enough that blood was oozing out from the wounds. The pain was starting to settle in now, his palms throbbing painfully, but Date tried to ignore that as he looked back up and glared at Dante.
Goddamnit, this was all his fault. Now he was even injured because of a stupid idiot like him.
Hurr another late tag
He glared right back at him. When he got his hands on him, Date was going to be sorry he ever tried to mess with him.
"It's not over until I say it is!" And he renewed his attempts at freeing himself.
