Description: Cloud and Yuuri undertake Watch mission #009 and have to fight large cats. At least one of them thinks they are a hero.
Apparently there was a cat problem in the sectioned off zones, but he wasn't so certain why the Watch needed to get involved. He would have thought that some fish and maybe a warm bed would be more appropriate to keep any stray felines from getting too out of line. Of course, there had been something strange about a size discrepancy, but he hadn't paid too much attention to that when he convinced Yuuri that they should go together.
Cloud shifted his nailbat from his back and held it in his right hand as he turned the corner to come into view of the Zone in question. It looked pretty quiet so far, but apparently they were now cat-nappers. Really, how big could they get? He was expecting something about the size of a big alleycat, but maybe this place grew their pussy cats big?
Turning to look at Yuuri, he set his nailbat on his shoulder. "If we find any cats, just try to avoid the pointy ends." Which, unfortunately with cats, seemed to be three out of the four. "I'll show you some hero moves. You brought a weapon, right?"

You brought a weapon, right?"
no subject
Walking alongside the blonde, Yuuri peered up at the hero at the statement. "Aa yeah, I'll definitely make sure to do that," he muttered sheepishly. Yuuri just hoped that even if he did end up with the pointy end, that there weren't any nasty surprises waiting for him. A shudder ran through his body at the thought, but he pushed it back.
"That would be great! I'd love to see them," Yuuri said with excitement. Rubbing at the back of his head at the question, he smiled sheepishly. "I don't actually have a weapon, sorry."
no subject
"Oh, you will, don't worry," he replied with an arrogant smirk. It lasted only a few moments when it was clear that Yuuri had no actual weapon. He would resonate with the kid, but Sephiroth would tear his arms off, so... best to just do this the old fashioned way.
"Here, you take this," he said, offering over the nailbat to Yuuri. "I've got a knife on me that will look just as heroic and inspiring when I use it. Okay?"
no subject
"Huh--?" He sounded questionably while finding Cloud's nailbat offered. Glancing down at it, Yuuri was about to protest the offer before Cloud beat him to the punch. Looking hesitantly at his friend, the young Maou tentatively reached forward as he asked, "If you're sure..."
no subject
Pushing the nailbat into Yuuri's hands, he pulled the large hunting knife from his boot and showed it to his friend. "You know how to swing a bat, I take it?" He started to move towards the second zone, intent of sniffing out some cats. This shouldn't be difficult.
no subject
"Yeah, I can swing it without any problems. Thank you Cloud," Yuuri said with a bright smile. He didn't hesitate in following after Cloud, and quickened his pace to walk alongside his friend. "Do you really think that cats could be such a problem here?"
no subject
He stopped near the fence surrounding the Zone 2 area and looked around. "No, I don't, but apparently they are. I wonder if this is another test or something by Mustang..." he muttered before he heard it.
Turning his head to the sound of a low growl, he saw glowing cat eyes from a nearby alleyway and wondered what Sephiroth was doing playing a trick on them. And then the cat stepped out, but it was huge compared to the normal cats he'd seen. It hissed, and he raised an eyebrow. "Okay... maybe a bit of a problem. Rememeber to avoid the pointy ends, right?" The cat charged at them hissing and with full intention of causing damage.
no subject
"I hope not, but if it is, hopefully nothing's getting stolen this time," Yuuri said with an awkward grin on his face.
He slowed to a stop as he caught sight of something in the shadows up ahead. It wasn't until the oversized cat came stalking out that his eyes widened. "Eeeh? That thing's huge!" He exclaimed in surprise. Glancing up at Cloud with wide eyes, Yuuri's attention shifted between the large felines and his friend as he said, "Pointy ends! ...Right..."
no subject
He dodged to the side to avoid the claw swipe, and he sized up the pussycat before realizing that two more had appeared, a fat ginger and a pure grey cat, both as big at the first. "They breed their cats big here," he said and held the knife out in front of him as the two new ones charged at him.
The first one, a pure white cat, turned its attention on Yuuri and growled low before making a leap for the kid's face with all four clawed feet.
no subject
Eyes widening, Yuuri yelped out loudly before trying to scramble out of the way. He fell down on his backside when he narrowly missed the first attack, and while bringing up his borrowed bat, he called out in alarm, "Just what sort of cats are these?!"
no subject
The white cat landed where Yuuri had once been, but it turned quickly and charged in again. Instead of going for the face, its keen eyes locked onto one of Yuuri's legs, and it went with all feet and mouth for the meaty calf.
The ginger took the lead against the blonde and charged at Cloud's legs while the grey waited patiently before leaping to attack the upper body.
no subject
Panic gripped his chest, but it didn't stop him from scrambling back up to his feet. Swinging out with the nailbat, the young Maou gave a small cry as he ran forward with his weapon. He didn't know what he was aiming at, but all he knew was that there were teeth and claws heading his way, and he wanted nothing to do with either of them.
no subject
The white cat abandoned its attack when Yuuri came at it swinging that strange looking piece of wood. It dodged around behind the dark-haired boy, and it moved in to sink its claws into the back of Yuuri's calf while also making the attempt to bite the boy's backside.
The ginger swished its tail before starting to circle the blonde, moving in slowly before darting in to scratch at curled legs. The grey, now bleeding from a wound on the shoulder, narrowed its eyes and followed its partner into direct combat by attacking the opposite side.
no subject
He cried out in pain as claws slashed across his calf. Stumbling to his knees, Yuuri clenched his teeth in pain moments before teeth sunk into the flesh of his backside.
Yuuri reacted automatically as he flailed around to smack the white cat with the edge of his baseball bat. "Cloud!" He called out in pained alarm. The last thing he wanted to do was be a burden to someone else, but Yuuri knew that he needed help with this. Fighting never was his strong suit.
no subject
Of course, he twisted his head around as he moved to toss the grey cat aside at Yuuri's sudden call. His blue eyes narrowed as he forced himself to his feet and rushed over to the helpless boy. "Stay down," he ordered firmly and threw himself over to cover Yuuri's body with his own.
The grey cat yowled in pain as the blade sunk deep to its abdomen, and it was thrown to the side. It landed on its feet but stumbled before making one last charge after the running blonde. The ginger cat followed as soon as the blonde rushed away, taking the opportunity to leap onto the blonde's back and start clawing the flesh available. The white cat purred as it struck in on Yuuri, but found the new target just as appealing and joined its fellow on the blonde's back.
no subject
The next thing he knew, there was a heavy weight on his body. Panicking lightly, the young Maou cried out, "Cloud!" He could feel his heart hammering hard against his chest, and as he heard the cats running in to try and finish the job.
He couldn't let Cloud get injured, but his body was pinned beneath the blonde hero's own, and he couldn't move to try and help his friend. Something seemed to click within him, and as he wiggled his right arm out from beneath Cloud, it began to transform into the impressive blade of his true form.
That wasn't the only change within as his eyes thinned, and his facial expression began to sharpen. The blade was moved up just in time to slash at the cats attempting to land on Cloud's back.
"You fight to protect one who cannot protect himself. You have proven yourself worthy, Cloud Strife," voice deepening as he spoke, the Maou attempted to push Cloud off of him as he continued, "I will aid you in defeating these beasts in return for your actions."
no subject
If he had his SOLDIER strength, this would be easy, but as it was, he had to protect Yuuri from more harm. The pain would surely alert Sephiroth that something was going wrong with the mission. He had to hold out and take out these cats as quickly as possible and keep Yuuri from more harm.
He blinked when a sword suddenly shot up towards the cats on his back, and he rolled aside along with the push. He grunted and forced himself to his feet despite the weight.
The grey cat managed to rake long lines of damage before it screamed in pain as a blade pierced its chest, and it fell to the side struggling until it went still. The white cat leapt away from the blonde's back and settled on the ground, hissing before circling around and charging in to bite Yuuri's shoulder. The ginger was thrown off of Cloud but turned and immediately began attacking the blonde again.
no subject
"The cries of innocent people can be heard from each swipe of your claws. While the need for nourishment is the basis of any life form, I will not condone the type of attack within the protective barrier of Death City," the Maou said as he sighted the white cat hissing at him.
He didn't remain where he was as the feline moved in to attack him. Unlike his friendlier form, the Maou moved with grace and presence as he effortlessly sidestepped the incoming feline. Smoothly bringing around his weapon form, the demon King brought up the sharp edge of his blade as he moved to slice along the side of the snow-white beast.
no subject
The ginger screamed as it dug claws into the blonde's sides, but twisted towards the side as pain exploded in its large body. Still, it had enough weight and fierceness to continue attacking. The white cat was surprised by the movements and leapt to the side, but it took some of the blade along its right side. It looked dangerously and hissed before lunging in to go for the throat.
no subject
Instantly on the move, the Maou didn't hesitate in thrusting the bladed arm forwards to allow the incoming cat to impale itself on the metal. He didn't have his majutsu here, but he was far from defenseless. Once this cat was done, the Maou would focus his attention on aiding the blonde if need be.
no subject
The ginger cat snarled and spat as it tried to do as much damage as possible, but it began to grow weak from pain and blood loss. It eventually gave a gargled mew and slumped down as its fight was over.
The white cat, always the smartest and the most dangerous, screamed when it was impaled. Its claw snapped out to slash even as it used its weight to take the man to the ground. It even snapped a bite for the arm impaling it.
no subject
He gritted his teeth in pain as the claws managed to slash against his arm during his escape. Rolling back onto his feet, he didn't pause in his assault as he leapt back in to slice the sharp tip of his blade along the feline's side and throat.
no subject
The white cat managed to catch some flesh, but it wasn't enough for it's liking as it was shoved away. It landed heavily on the ground, blood leaking from its mouth before it drove in for the dark-haired man's midsection. Its assault was put to a halt as the blade slashed deeply into its flesh, cutting precious arteries and veins.
It died before it made impacted and slumped to the ground still
no subject
His bladed arm sunk into the flesh of the white cat, and he moved his body in the motion of the direction the feline fell down in. Smoothly withdrawing it, he flicked the blood from the blade while making certain that it was indeed dead. Once that had been assured, the Maou turned his attention over towards Cloud.
He didn't pay any attention to the bleeding wounds on his body, knowing that they would be taken care of before they became infected.
no subject
"So you're the owner of those eyes," he said softly. "You fight well, and it seems you have access to a partial form." He hadn't seen Yuuri use such a form before, and by the look of it, this aspect of the kid had mastered it already.
Ignoring his wounds, he walked closer to regard the wounds of his friend. "You're going to need treatment."
no subject
"I am the one who sleeps within his mind," his voice was deeper, and sounded far more mature as he spoke. If one hadn't seen the transformation take place, the one who stood before Cloud could have been mistaken for an entirely different person. "His desire to protect you drew me from the slumber this world places on me, and so I use this opportunity to deliver justice and protect those he cares for."
The fact that Yuuri cared for everyone in this city didn't go by the Maou's notice, as he was certain it wouldn't bypass Cloud's thoughts either.
"His will is strong, but without valiant companions such as yourself, he will be unable to stand," the Maou said. Whether Cloud understood his words or not was not his concern. He had said that which he had wanted, and he could feel the power within beginning to weaken.
Glancing down to the dead felines littering the ground, he spoke, "Those who twist the wills and nature of innocent creatures will not go without justice for long."
no subject
"I thought that I was the one protecting him," he replied dryly, flexing his shoulders to feel the tattered strips of his sweater against the bleeding gashing in his back. "Are you generally all about justice then? If so, I can see where he gets his idealism."
Glancing at the bodies of the cats, he glanced back to this more mature version and blinked his eyes slowly. His eyes shifted to the cat-like ones that had been given to him by JENOVA and then looked at Yuuri again. "The witches, most likely. We'll stop them eventually, but it appears you have a new tool to do that," he murmured, gesturing to the partially changed arm.
no subject
He watched calmly as those blue eyes shifted to green. The fact that the shape of the pupils changed as well, didn't go by the Maou's notice either. At the gesture towards his partial form, he subtly inclined his head in response. "I have witnessed their exploits in the future, and will do what I can to put a stop to their evil deeds."
no subject
He nodded his head to the reply, and he definitely saw where Yuuri's strong ideals to protect everyone came from. This aspect took a far more... direct route for it. "So once Death City is done, you're going elsewhere to right wrongs?"
So, did it require this aspect of Yuuri to come out in order to use that partial form? He supposed that he would find out later on. "That's what we're all fighting for. It will happen eventually." He paused before he pointed a finger at the mature version. "You know, you sound quite a bit like me. Must be a hero thing."
no subject
"I will go wherever my power is needed," he said with a nod. While he wasn't as strong as he was in Shin Makoku, or even his own Earth, that wouldn't stop the Maou from fighting for the lives of others.
The Maou held no doubt that they would win this war. It may take effort, but he would use every ounce of power he had to make certain that the future turned out more favourably. He was pulled out of his thoughts, however, when he caught sight the finger pointed in his direction.
His cat-like eyes slowly returned to Cloud's face at the words. "This may not be my land, but I will not let them run to ruin." Regarding the blonde seriously, he said, "I will take my leave. You are important to him, Cloud Strife."
His gaze lingered for a moment longer before his partial form seemed to evaporate away. At that same moment, the length of his hair returned back to the familiar length before his eyes rolled back into his head. Exhausted, Yuuri fell down to his knees before waking up fast enough to snap his arms out to catch the rest of his fall.
Panting softly, he felt his entire body in pain, but pushed it aside as he instantly glanced towards Cloud and desperately asked, "Are you okay?"
no subject
He crossed his arms over his chest when it appeared that the Yuuri he was used to would emerge again. He blinked when it seemed the kid was overtaken by exhaustion and fell over, and he found himself looking down at Yuuri. "You should be more concerned with yourself. You look like you took a pretty nasty hit from behind."
He reached out and offered a hand for Yuuri to take. "The cats were defeated though," he finally added. "Your better half showed up," he teased gently. "I never knew you looked good with long hair."
no subject
Watching the hand stretch out to him, Yuuri smiled as he reached out to take it. Pulling himself up to stand with a hiss, the young Maou paused as he stood up. His better half? It was then that he got the odd flash of what had happened, and he felt his eyes widen at the realisation.
"Eeee? I had no idea that I could do that," he said while rubbing at the back of his head in confusion. Shaking his head, the smile returned to Yuuri's face as he blushed lightly, "Aa you're just saying that."
no subject
He continued to hold onto Yuuri's arm to make certain that the kid could stay up as he reached out to take the nailbat back. "Apparently you can, and he turned your arm into a sword without changing entirely," he said as he began to help them off towards the clinic.
Snorting softly, he nudged Yuuri. "Nah, I used to have long hair when I was a kid."
no subject
It took a moment to collect his balance after rising. Thankfully Cloud offered his support, otherwise he might have tumbled back down to the ground. As it was, the blood running down his legs was beginning to get uncomfortable, but all thoughts of that came to a halt when Cloud mentioned a partial form.
"Huh, I guess that I did," Yuuri said with a growing smile. It was painful to walk, but he forced himself to do just that as he walked alongside his friend.
Smiling fondly, the nudge drew out a friendly laugh before he peered back at Cloud. "Really? I couldn't imagine you with long hair. I bet you looked great with it though! Was it just as spiky as it is now?"
no subject
He shifted the arm he had in hand over his shoulder and curled his other arm around Yuuri's waist in order to take most of the weight off of the kid's legs. He was on the verge of simply carrying the boy, but he decided it was in Yuuri's best interests to continue walking a bit. "That means you can do it, right?"
Snorting softly, he rolled his eyes a bit at the questioning. "Yeah, it was. That's a trait I get from my mum, and it's always been uncontrolled."
no subject
He blinked in response to Cloud's question while he hobbled along beside the blonde hero. The was something that he hadn't thought of, amd that was something that clearly showed on his expression. "Me?" He asked before looking thoughtful, "I might be able to do it, so I might have to give it a try later."
Cloud's answer to his question had his eyes widening in suprise. He cloudn't imagine Cloud with long hair, buf for some reason, he could see it suiting his friend. "Eeh?" He sounded before smiling broadly, "I couldn't imagine you with flat hair, but I think that the spiky hair suits you."
no subject
"Don't worry; I've never had flat hair. Covering it with a hat is the best I could ever do," he murmured before steering them towards the nearest clinic. He knew that it would be a simple matter to get them patched up, and this mission could be considered a success.
no subject
For some reason, Yuuri just couldn't picture it, but that could be because he'd never seen Cloud wearing one before.
no subject
He had chosen to wear a fedora at the formal party, but that had been the first time in a long time. Plus, it helped that no one expected him to wear a hat, so he could get away with it easily when he went undercover.
here he comes to save the day, creepy clown is on his way...
"I knew you were special. You were holding out on me werent you," he continued, a small, amused smirk gracing his lips. He paid no attention to the spiky blonde-haired man who had fought alongside Yuuri.
no subject
He didn't get much of a chance to do just that though, as he heard that far-too-familiar voice call out from just up ahead. His grip on Cloud tightened unconsciously as he tried to pull a friendly smile towards Hisoka. "Aaa, what do you mean?" He asked even if he had a feeling he knew what the Meister was referring to.
no subject
Without indicating, he continued to walk and hold up Yuuri.
no subject
He sauntered over to the pair, blocking their path in a non-threatening way. He leaned forward slightly, one hand on his hip. "That was an interesting trick you did with your hair," he murmured, his other hand snaking out and catching a strand of Yuuri's black hair for a moment before letting it fall. He leaned back again, crossing his arms casually, an amused smile on his face. "Long hair suits you, Yuuri."
no subject
His movements came to a stop when he saw Hisoka approaching. The fact that the other Meister was blocking their path wasn't caught by Yuuri, as he was too distracted by the fact that Hisoka was actually reaching out to touch him. He flinched back automatically at the touch, and went to take a painful step away from Hisoka. "Thanks, but we really have to get going and clean ourselves up."
What was it with this man?
no subject
His left hand snapped out to make an attempt to grab the red-head's wrist tightly. "Back off," he finally said. "Unless you're a doctor and can pull bandages out of that outfit of yours, you can keep from touching. If you want to walk with us, do it. Otherwise, out of the way."
no subject
"Given the current state you're in...that's probably a wise choice, Yuuri," he purred.
His attention turned back to the blonde man currently attached to him.
Without saying anything, he raised an eyebrow at Cloud. Using his free hand, Hisoka unwrapped a length of bandage from around the top of one of his arms, and flicked it to land on Cloud's shoulder.
"Of course I wouldn't want him bleeding to death in the street," he replied. He glanced down at the hand wrapped tightly around his wrist. "Now, if you don't mind letting go of my wrist, I'll leave you to look after Yuuri's injuries," he said lightly.
no subject
"Aaa yeah..." the young Maou's words trailed off at the purring. Keeping close to Cloud's side, Yuuri glanced over as he saw the bandage being pulled off. "Cloud," he murmured softly.
