Characters: Kanaya and Vriska
Location: Clinic
Rating: PG-13
Time: 10-14, afternoon
Description: Kanaya is not pleased about Vriska going after a Kishin Egg on her own.

Kanaya is furious. After what Karkat's told her about what Vriska's intentions were, and so she has only one thought on her mind. What was she thinking?! Normally she wouldn't care so much, but this isn't their world, and Vriska doesn't have her weapons. For all her bravado, she still wasn't strong enough to be able to take it down on her own - clearly, if she had ended up in the clinic.

So she heads off that way, and when she finds out where Vriska's room is, she knocks and pokes her head in.

It was the middle of day. For Vriska, that meant, frankly, that she was supposed to be asleep. Normally that would have been waived under the circumstances, but pain and blood loss were an exhausting combination--topped with fury, frustration, and volatile, futile rage (not to mention that she hadn't been sleeping well prior to this anyway), she was about done. Once the commotion (and brief but pitched battle with the clinic staff) had died down, once Karkat had left her, taken her Egg, and had the gall to claim heroism on his part (amongst other things), she'd found that the bed and its lull of silence was, in fact, pretty inviting for once.

Consequently, what Kanaya found when she peered in was not an angry, injured troll but a sleeping one.

Bloody, perhaps, but almost peaceful looking.

For about five seconds, anyway. Her eyes opened, fixing almost instantly on Kanaya's face in the doorway, she bared her teeth slightly, face still pressed into the pillow. When she spoke, her expression was hard, her tone flat and defencive.

"...what."

"What do you think?" Vriska's voice was raw, but more hoarse from anger than pain. What was Kanaya doing here? Come to rub it in? No, of course not. That wasn't what Kanaya did. Kanaya bugged and fussed and meddled and interfered with everything that wasn't her business and ruined her own surprise.

At the moment, frankly, she was willing to note that Kanaya ruined a lot of things.

Vriska resisted the urge to groan in frustration and pain, turning her head so that she had a better view of her moirallegiac nuisance; Kanaya got the full glare of her sevenfold eye.

"How am I supposed to know what you do and don't know? You and Vantas are obviously in cahoots--for all I know, he told you--fuck, I don't know what he told you. Pick something. Anything." She bared her teeth. "I don't fucking care!"

Vriska scowled, but didn't blow up; she didn't want to blow up at Kanaya--she didn't want to be doing this at all. She wanted this to have gone fucking right, she wanted to have brought back that egg to give Kanaya and fix everything and get her attention not like this, she wanted to kick Karkat's teeth in, shove his ugly nub horns down his fucking throat.

"... great. Did he tell you the rest? How he stole the egg and ate it himself, for example?" Her voice dripped with venom, and she paused, baring her teeth to Kanaya before continuing. "Or how he got me injured to begin with? Or about his fucking partner? Or--" A hint of a wicked smile crawled up her face for the first time. "That he's a Weapon?"

...herp derp where does Kan live?

"...you knew?" For a moment, Vriska managed to look surprised and disappointed, even almost hurt, but covered it quickly with another scowl. "Figures." She shifted, shoving the pillow out of her way and sitting up--there was only so much menace one could display while lying in a bed, and she was starting to feel smothered by the sheer amount of fabric she was lying in.

Sitting up, however, revealed that her shirt and jacket were pretty much ruined, the back stained liberally with blood and torn open where she'd been scored with the Egg's claws--bandages underneath kept it from being indecent, but she was still in pretty sorry shape, considering.

The next words were more of a mutter than a response, however--bordering on a growl. "The sewers weren't that far from the Communal."

...welp.

"Whatever." Vriska had a distinct sulk to her now, and she glanced sullenly at Kanaya. Is that all she has to say? Not even an apology--maybe an I'm Sorry For Fucking Things Up?

Fine.

"So why are you talking to me all of a sudden? I was under the impression you were too busy with your human." Resentment and venom leaked into her voice.

Don't think Vriska didn't catch that wince--she did. But Kanaya didn't witness the mighty battle between Vriska and the clinic's staff--the retention of her clothes, stained but mostly disinfected, were one of her meagre victories.

Alliances. For some reason, that word raised her hackles, rubbing Vriska the wrong way in a way Kanaya's negligence or indifference had not.

"Alliances with who?" she demanded.

Vriska bore an expression of disgust, her lips pulling back to bare her teeth grotesquely. "Fuck you!" She grabbed a fistful of bedding and yanked it, throwing it aside as she turned--then shoved the rest of the covers off the side, punctuating her anger with the violent flumpf of fabric.

"What friends! You're not supposed to have friends! You're my moirail--"

:I Holding this here for now.

It certainly shut Vriska up, and she stopped, staring at Kanaya for a long moment.

Then:

"... well, you sure don't fucking act like it." Her voice ran cold.
