they made up their minds and they started packing

Characters: Rai, Neku, and other various appearances
Location: The desert and then the city, later.
Rating: PG-13 for possible violence
Time: August 5th!
Description: Rai and Neku go on an adventure to look for witches. Because wtf, they're supposed to fight them? Where the hell are they. Rai learns that his world's logic doesn't apply across dimensions.

This seemed like such a better idea a few hours ago.

It just didn't occur to Raimundo at the time that maaaaybe the way things worked in his world didn't quite hold true in this one. How was he supposed to know that the forces of evil would actually understand subtlety here? Big showy lairs were constants. They were like big dick contests but with houses and castles and evil armies of jungle cats.

Rai would work all this out later. Right now he had far more pressing matters. Like shaking off the big ungly monster thing chasing him and his new friend, Neku, through the desert.

"So what do you turn into again!?"

He breathed heavily and ran as fast as he could, refusing to look back. Sand was hard to run against and while he was fast, sand was sti-

Neku should have never looked back. But wishful thinking was just that but at least he was able to throw himself at his friend, sending them both crashing to the ground to avoid a strike. (no one goes on this kind of adventure, almost so boring at the start only to find KISHIN and running for their lives; okay, only an egg but it's the running for their lives that's important-)

Rolling off quickly and fighting off the building hysteria, he grabbed Rai's hand and tugged.

"Forget my weapon form, just run!"

The monster was big, bad, and ugly but the one upside was that it was also very, very clumsy. It ran on two hind legs and was armless with a fat, scaled belly and long distended neck with a head full of razor sharp teeth. The only thing that kept it from toppling over was an equally long tail. A tail that could be used as a weapon.

It was this that it swung at them, it's tail just flying over their heads. It wobbled a bit as it regained its balance. It let out a loud hybrid of a hiss and a shriek and once more gave chase to them.

YES! Neku watched Rai move, running off to the side and closer to his friend where he wouldn't be a sitting duck. He watched and saw the attack connect, but beyond that...

"What, why didn't that work?" He retreated some distance, looking for something to throw. Raimundo's kick looked like it would hurt, but considering that this was a monster... If only he could do telekinesis like before. He fetched a hefty rock and spun once, throwing it in the general direction of the monster.

That should stagger it, at least.

The kick was an impressive one, but against the Kishin only managed to throw it a little off balance. When combined with the force of the rock that Neku threw it managed to cause it to tumbled over. It was unharmed, but given its clumsy form it was having a bit of trouble getting up and thrashed around and snapped at Rai who was the closest, using its long neck to try and reach for him.

eek. I forgot to track.

He stumbled after him, running on his own power so he wouldn't have to burden Raimundo especially when they really, really couldn't afford it.

"Shi-" his words were lost when he realized that he couldn't afford the breath for that either, his fingers curling around his wrist. They shouldn't be separated here. "Quickly!" He closed his eyes and changed forms, becoming a lighter and inanimate object.

"I'm not an offensive weapon, so I don't exactly have skills that'll help," he said by way of explanation. But now, at least, he didn't have to dodge and run with him. The other teen could go faster like this. "So just keep running!"

It took a while but the monster finally got back up, and boy it was not pleased by the stunt those two had pulled. Once more it released a banshee shriek from its mouth and started after them. They had gained some distance on it, and it was slow but determined and taking big steps.

[identity profile] gotphones.livejournal.com 2010-05-13 04:59 am (UTC)(link)
"No need to scream," he said, voice calmer now that he wasn't running. "I can hear and see perfectly."

Though he did bring up a really good point. They couldn't just bring the monster to people who wouldn't expect a Kishin egg to appear in the city. And all of those people who couldn't fight yet...

"Right," firmer now, he settled on looking behind them, tracking the monster. "... What, do we fight it until it runs off?"

[identity profile] gotphones.livejournal.com 2010-05-13 07:32 am (UTC)(link)
"Bring it," he said, lending his confidence through his voice and his, well, soul. There was an unmistakable connection between them now, palpable and he could almost taste it. Like partners, he thought, who fought together on the same plane instead of separated.

He took a steadying breath and even though he wasn't any use in a fight, they were still - temporarily - partners. Neku took care of his partners. "Careful."

When Rai turned around, the Kishin wasn't so smart as to consider where this newfound confidence had come from. It just continued to charge at them blindly, as best as it's body would allow.

Raimundo really had this thing for kicking hard and jumping high, Neku thought absently, keeping those tidbits to himself to avoid distracting his now-partner. Were partnerships really all that exclusive? He'll have to ask Ken about that, in case he felt possessive though it was possible a non-issue.

He could see then that this time, their attack had a better effect and but he kept vigilant anyw-

"Raimundo! The tail!"

This time the beast actually let out something of a pained grunt and it faceplanted into the sand, but there once again came its tail zipping towards Rai.

[identity profile] gotphones.livejournal.com 2010-05-16 02:27 am (UTC)(link)
That... was actually pretty cool. Was that really a dodgeroll? Either way, his partner was able to execute it well enough.

Maybe he could try it at home.

Right. Later, after they survived this. He focused back on the problem at hand. "Do you have any problems about hitting things while they're down?" Because Neku really, really didn't. Especially when they were that big.

Fortunately for them, like last time it had trouble getting back up. That tail was still a danger but it seemed more concerned with getting up so it could get a good chomp at them.

[identity profile] gotphones.livejournal.com 2010-05-19 03:06 am (UTC)(link)
He winced, turning his spiritual head (how does that work?) to see how much damage was inflicted. That looked painful, but it didn't seem like the type of kick to break bones.

Though that was probably because Raimundo wasn't all that heavy yet.

"Is it dead...?" He asked softly, watching as that attack made the monster still for a few moments.

And once again, down went the monster. Another growl emitted from it but this time it was more of a pained sound and it did not retaliate. No, it definitely wasn't dead, but it was deciding that Neku and Rai weren't worth the effort.

It managed to get up somewhat quickly this time, backed away from them a bit, ready to retaliate should they follow, before turning tail and bumbling off.

(We're done,) Neku thought smugly, transforming back to his human shape beside Raimundo and crossed his arms with satisfaction. That was a good job done very well. But unlike his companion, he wasn't crowing it to the desert.

"It's gone now," he pointed out when Raimundo's victory wiggle and gloating dragged on long enough. He'd heard worse, before. "Good job." Really, if it were only just Neku, he wouldn't have survived the attack. Well, if it were only just Neku, he wouldn't be out here in the first place.

Details.

"Time to go back."

[identity profile] gotphones.livejournal.com 2010-05-19 05:09 am (UTC)(link)
It was a few more hours later that he could be found trudging through the gates of Death City into the city proper, looking very dusty, sweaty and exhausted. (Who would have thought that the desert was just that hot?)

Rolling his eyes in exasperation at his own sarcasm, Neku glanced at Raimundo, wondering how he was holding up.

(Ugh. I'd kill for a cold drink...)

Eruka didn't like this. She didn't like what she found herself caught up in. Oh sure she was a Witch, and proud to be one. She loved to cause mischief and chaos but what had been happening recently, the new things that Medusa was forcing her into--no, no. She didn't like that at all. Were it not for the snakes in her body that could rip her apart at any moment she would have turned tail and left Death City months ago and told Mabaa what the Snake Witch was up to---her and Odyne, and Angelica. All this was way over head and their heads, so much bigger than anything she could have imagined.

Unfortunately for the meek Witch her thoughts were quickly interrupted by the rather rude arrival of a Raimundo Pedrosa. When he splashed into that fountain she got absolutely soaked. Now Eruka didn't mind being wet at all--in fact she loved it, hence why she was sitting by the fountain to begin with, but she certainly didn't like clumsy idiots interrupting her thoughts and invading her rather large personal sphere.

"Hey, watch it!" she snapped, getting up to look down at her wet clothes. She'd been forced to put aside her usual attire since it was 'too obvious' and was now uncomfortably decked in a casual summer dress and sandals which left her feeling too exposed.

[identity profile] gotphones.livejournal.com 2010-05-19 05:54 am (UTC)(link)
Even with his eyes on Raimundo it was impossible to even predict and prevent accidents from happening. Neku's spine stiffened in even through exhaustion and he was alert in a second, already running after his partner(-in-crime).

"Hey!" He called after him, alarmed when Raimundo displayed impressive footwork. Landing a foot on the side of the fountain for leverage, he reached down to grab him by the back of the shirt and hauled. Forget what he said about not being heavy - Rai could be a sack if he wanted to be.

Crap. Neku stared at the girl they had inevitably upset. He knew better than to plead for their case. Girl and their clothes and all that.

"Sorry." He said, ducking his head.

[identity profile] thespazzyfrog.livejournal.com 2010-05-20 01:11 am (UTC)(link)
Eruka just glared at them for a bit, eyes taking on a reddish hue before she sighed and closed them, taking in a deep breath. When they opened they returned to their usual dark color.

"It's fine." she stepped away from the fountain and bit to grab at her dress and ring it out. For the most part she had avoided people while here. The less people knew her, the less attention she could draw to herself, the better which meant that for all those people she just couldn't avoided (such as these too) it was best to be as cordial as possible.

[identity profile] gotphones.livejournal.com 2010-05-20 01:52 am (UTC)(link)
He winced at the curtness of her voice and let Raimundo down when he knew he had some stable footing (if he still falls, there was no cure for natural stupidity.)

"Rai," he said at a mumble. "I think we should go."
