[OPEN] Earthquake Event

It's early in the morning -- just after morning training -- when the ground beneath Death City shakes violently in what most of you might recognize as an earthquake. It's not a particularly huge one for the more experienced of the guests, but it sends cracks shooting through the cobblestoned ground of Death City and up the sides of some buildings. A small handful of structures, mostly those that have been abandoned in the course of this war or the very old ones, take the most damage and topple over or crumble at their foundations.
The earthquake lasts no more than half a minute, but the vibrations and aftershocks last through the day. Death City's streets become full of holes, from those the size of apples to what could be described as deep ditches. The greatest damage, however, is the commercial sector, which becomes flooded as the waterways take damage and spill water into the streets. Shibusen's alarms blare out and quick, urgent orders to fix the waterways and search for the injured or anyone trapped in rubble filter in through all networks.

Without even waiting for a confirmation, Shirogane turns away and begins walking towards a collapsed wall.

Slowly tailing the other, not particularly enthusiastic about this brick moving business. But he's helping, somewhat methodically piling them off to the side.

He hadn't noticed Duke moving his hand, or that would have definitely earned Duke a glare.
From the hole that they were clearing comes the sound of a child calling for help as well as something else...
"...More cats?"

It's not a really marked increase, but he is moving the bricks a little faster.

Eventually, he pulls out a dusty kitten that bats at his hand. And then he promptly tosses it over his shoulder at Duke. You'd better catch it.

"If you intend to throw anything that you find, I would rather explore the opening." He's soothing that kitten while he picks up more bricks, don't mind him.

He's going to ignore the growl, because really, it's all he can do not to just collapse from lack of sleep, he doesn't have time to deal with people growling at him too.
"And that wasn't a throw, it was a toss. Would you rather I drop it in the water?"
And that's just what he does with the kid that comes out of the bricks next. Straight into the water it goes.
I'm laughing. XD
Duke reaches over to pull the child upright and then little else. He'll just. Hope that the next brick the other pulls free loosens something to drop one on his head. Just one. Maybe not even a complete brick.
Duke's going to lean closer to the wall, wish he wasn't here and without his abilities once more, still calming the kitten.

"If you don't take it I'm dropping it."
He tacks a bright smile onto the end of that statement because he didn't want to be here anymore than Duke did.

"If a full litter..." Who cares about potentially getting yucky water up in his boots, he's going to take a look for more kittens - and rescue them before Shirogane gets to.

He doesn't really have much to say to that - it could have been a full litter, but given how the kittens have their eyes open it's less likely of that. Just a short noise in his throat to show that yes, he had heard him, but no, he didn't have anything to say, and Duke is going to fetch that last kitten out.
".... Anything else...." Less of a 'do you still want my attention for something' and more of a 'anything you think is in there, my ears are somewhat distracted by needy kittens'.

Shirogane watches as he gets the last kitten out, stops briefly to listen for anymore noises before straightening up. "That seems to be the last of them."
And hopefully I'll actually make it back home before something else comes up.
He turns...and notices Duke is kind of...covered in kittens. "...What are you going to do with those?"

Duke blinks blankly at him when he asks the second. Yes, one has gotten over the distressing experience enough to start playing - or.. trying to eat - some of his hair, what of it?
"Wait until the panic is over, ask if any would claim them. Otherwise, keep."

He'll just stare at the kitten trying to eat Duke's hair and then look at Duke, "I...see. All three together, I'm guessing."
His tone though implies that he doesn't think Duke would be able to take care of them.

A slightly twitched up of an eyebrow. "I see no reason to separate them. Assuming you are not offering or hinting to take charge of one."
Pity he sucks at reading tones, doesn't it? And chewing on his hair isn't good for you, kitten. Carefully disentangling that one.

Why would he even- He'd never- Wait. What? Take a kitten? Really?
Well...Technically, he could. Shirogane had the confidence that he'd be able to take care of it...but...no. He didn't need something to take care of. He definitely didn't need to think about it either.
"Of course not. I was just-" NOT WORRIED. "-wondering if you could actually take care of three at once."
I'm totally not looking up the manga as I sit here typing this.
Just going to absently watch that. Was that a variation of tone and a pause for swap for words?
Probably. "Should not be that much harder to care for than Loewe hatchlings. These are domesticated." As well as much smaller and trying to chew on his fingers, but he's got gloves and doesn't do more than blink and gently get them to stop.
In that case, I'm totally not celebrating you looking up the manga or anything. Yup.
Why are you watching. Are you judging him? Because he doesn't appreciate judging.
"What does being domesticated have anything to do with it? What is a Loewe hatchling anyway?"

"Less likely to attack anything that is not them or I." Casually catching them against his chest and stroking little furry ears. "Loewe are a breed of monster common to the isles south of the continent Desier. They stand roughly the same height as I, with thicker fur about the neck and tip of tail." Like a lion, but Duke has no idea what those are. "Cousin, Schwert, has incisors the length of my arm, darker and rougher fur. Hatching, same as kitten." Only. They hatched. Because monsters come from eggs.
"Would offer images, but hands are occupied." With kittens. Adorable, fluffy kittens.

"It's a kitten. How much damage could something like it do? They're not going to grow up to be those Loewes that you're talking about."
He gives the kitten a poke, and it just mews before licking his finger. Point made.
"Besides...kittens don't hatch." And they are not adorable. Fluffy, yes.

"Was my point. Not Loewe, therefor no trouble." That better not have been a hard poke.
"Aware. Kittens do not, however Loewe, Howler, Basilisk, Fancy Parasol - Most monsters do. Unsure if Roccus or the Fake line do as well, and assume most of the plant sort grow from seeds."

"You should have just said." It wasn't a hard poke. Besides, the kitten's not complaining.
"And what kind of world do you live in anyway? Having a monster called Fancy...Parasol."

"It's a form of bat." Yes, said seriously. Distracted by kittens for a little bit.
And say things plainly? He's not in the mood for it. "Terca Lumireis is inhabited by monsters more so than human, Kritya or Entelexeia." A pause. He's using names for other races. "Other non-monster, but non-human, beings."
