[OPEN] Earthquake Event

Characters: OPEN
Location: Death City
Rating: Varied
Time: Jan 22
Description: OOC post here.

It's early in the morning -- just after morning training -- when the ground beneath Death City shakes violently in what most of you might recognize as an earthquake. It's not a particularly huge one for the more experienced of the guests, but it sends cracks shooting through the cobblestoned ground of Death City and up the sides of some buildings. A small handful of structures, mostly those that have been abandoned in the course of this war or the very old ones, take the most damage and topple over or crumble at their foundations.

The earthquake lasts no more than half a minute, but the vibrations and aftershocks last through the day. Death City's streets become full of holes, from those the size of apples to what could be described as deep ditches. The greatest damage, however, is the commercial sector, which becomes flooded as the waterways take damage and spill water into the streets. Shibusen's alarms blare out and quick, urgent orders to fix the waterways and search for the injured or anyone trapped in rubble filter in through all networks.

[Raidou follows. Things are looking rather bad...

...especially when a little boy runs across the street, crying for his mother, and falls right into a large crack.]
toshinebrighter: (and the coming of dawn)

hopping in now!

[After his own rescue, the Warrior had brushed off concerns that he may be injured and instead thrown himself into seeing what he could do to assist others. His armor, after all, had taken the brunt of the collapse and though it had cracked and split, it meant he was only banged up a little (at least he maintained as such). So he had taken to searching through the commercial district--and turned a corner just in time to see a small child drop into a split in the concrete.]

[He's running the several meters to the site of the fall, and doesn't bother with saying anything (obviously the child is not fine in any meaningful sense of the word) before quickly climbing down after him. The boy is lying on the ground--a quick look-over doesn't show any blood or very serious injuries, so he doesn't mind the crying and instead lifts him up. Now--how to get back up.]
briochetime: (I think that counts as a FML.)

[Allen's hardly started forward, reflexively the moment he sees the boy's balance falter, when there's a suddenly flash of... armor and hair? And suddenly, there is a warrior and the boy in the crack.

He takes the briefest of moments to be rather impressed that there are people here who can move that fast with armor on. Perhaps it's a Meister ability.

At any rate, a moment later he's flat on his belly in the street, since he's soaked anyway so whatever -- flinching only briefly at the weight on his front -- and reaching out to help the child back up.]

One moment please, sir. [It still can't be easy to climb around in that armor and tight space with all the water, hypothetical abilities aside. For the moment, he has to make sure the child gets to a bridge.]

[Raidou, too, is already running forward when he sees the child fall down, not pausing when the man rushes in and climbs down into the hole. He can only hope the boy didn't get hurt or worse; hitting the hard, cracked concrete in just the wrong way could be all it takes...

He kneels by Allen's side, ignoring the cold water, and looks down. The little boy is conscious, at least, but it's hard to say anything else from up here.]

Is the child injured?

[Is the child injured? Probably, since that was a much larger fall for a small child, and at the same time--] He moves--[The child is still distressed, and accidentally nailed him a good one in the cheek with his heel.] He moves well, and I see no blood. I do not believe the harm is serious. [Though it probably wouldn't hurt to get him to a doctor.]

[The Warrior lifts the child up, holding him closer to the boy reaching down--in a way that probably makes it clear he has never held a child before.]
briochetime: (You only think I'm asleep.)

[If this were the moment for it, Allen would be amused by the completely awkward way the child's being handed over, but he's a little busy trying to keep the boy from flailing any more -- speaking quickly and quietly as he does his best to ease him onto the pavement.

The child, of course, immediately does his best to scramble off again. Allen is forced to pick him up bodily and gets kicked, too, for his trouble. Through a prolonged wince--]

No, I do not think the harm is serious at all.
timelessummoner: (this does not look good)

[That's a relief. However, the crack is starting to get filled with water at an alarming rate. Raidou lets Allen take care of the child for now and reaches down to help the other man back up.] Here-- take my hand.

[The water hadn't been a concern to him before--inconvenient, but only wading-depth--but the crack itself is collecting deeper water, and with him still in tassets, greaves, and sabatons, it's not like he can float. He nods at the other man and clasps his forearm, and proceeds to clamber up out of the split concrete and earth. For a moment, after straightening, he seems out of breath--or at least his chest is tight, breath constricted--but it fades quickly.] Thank you. [That was directed to the dark-haired man, while] He is too small to be alone, though, [is directed at the blond.]

[Being the designated babysitter would be a little easier if both you and your charge weren't slippery with water and said charge weren't wriggling like an eel.

He has to resist the momentary impulse to sit on the kid, especially when he gets kicked again. No, he shouldn't remove the shoes, either -- even though they really hurt. Going from experience, they'd mysteriously disappear somewhere in all this water.]

I think... his parent should be somewhere nearby. He seems very determined to cross the road.

[personal profile] timelessummoner 2012-02-08 08:32 pm (UTC)(link)
[He's a little concerned by the fact that the other two seem to be injured, but as long as they're not seriously hurt...]

You are most likely correct. We should look around and see if--

[He's cut off when a middle-aged lady comes running at them on the verge of hysterics. She rounds on Allen, trying to wrench the child from him none too gently.]

...Ma'am, that is quite unnecessary.
toshinebrighter: (...wut)

orz latefail tag is late and fail.

[personal profile] toshinebrighter 2012-02-11 04:55 pm (UTC)(link)
[For this, the Warrior is quite unhelpful--all while the woman takes her child and...shouts, cries, alternatively dressing each of them down and thanking them profusely, he stares blankly, silently, blinking. His face is practically a blank slate, but an observer would get the distinct impression that behind this mask, he is extremely confused, as if he had never seen a parent and her child before, if such a thing were possible.]
briochetime: (I will turn this car around.)

ALL THE LATE

[personal profile] briochetime 2012-02-14 02:21 am (UTC)(link)
[Allen flinches a little in surprise when the hurricane of a woman descends upon them, but bizarrely -- that of all things is something he isn't unused to amid all this chaos and the unfamiliarity of the earth moving the wrong way.

He relinquishes the boy easily enough; in fact, he has to have very fast reflexes in order to prevent being bodily dragged into the woman's bosom along with the boy (it's a lucky break; he gets the vaguely unsettled feeling that she would have hugged him too anyway, somewhere in the bizarre torrent of angry... gratitude....?).

Needless to say, he does his best to duck away as gracefully as possible -- he can't actually flee down the street as much as he wants to, but this is where having two random strangers taller than you around comes in handy.

... Though, all things considered they don't seem to have much more idea of how to deal with the lady than the lady herself has any idea what she's doing. Maybe he should do something now that she's actually taking breaths between phrases.]

Milady. The clinic should have changes of dry clothing and proper medical equipment that those here do not have. [Ah, he can actually get a word in edgewise.] Will you need directions?

[Maybe it's just the surreal fact of being called milady after a ridiculous day, but that actually quiets the matron for a moment.]
timelessummoner: (say what now?)

LET US BOARD THE LATE TRAIN TOGETHER

[personal profile] timelessummoner 2012-02-16 02:46 pm (UTC)(link)
[Since the tone seems to work, Raidou speaks up as well.] Should you require an escort, one of us can show you a safe path to the clinic. Please try to remain calm until then, for your son's sake.

[The mother is a little bewildered at being addressed by such polite young men, and seems to calm down somewhat. Raidou glances at the others. There probably isn't a need for all three of them act as escorts -- but on second thought, the other two do look rather roughed up.]

Do either of you need treatment?
