[OPEN] Earthquake Event

Characters: OPEN
Location: Death City
Rating: Varied
Time: Jan 22
Description: OOC post here.

It's early in the morning -- just after morning training -- when the ground beneath Death City shakes violently in what most of you might recognize as an earthquake. It's not a particularly huge one for the more experienced of the guests, but it sends cracks shooting through the cobblestoned ground of Death City and up the sides of some buildings. A small handful of structures, mostly those that have been abandoned in the course of this war or the very old ones, take the most damage and topple over or crumble at their foundations.

The earthquake lasts no more than half a minute, but the vibrations and aftershocks last through the day. Death City's streets become full of holes, from those the size of apples to what could be described as deep ditches. The greatest damage, however, is the commercial sector, which becomes flooded as the waterways take damage and spill water into the streets. Shibusen's alarms blare out and quick, urgent orders to fix the waterways and search for the injured or anyone trapped in rubble filter in through all networks.

Ling nodded and hopped down to the ground, hurrying over to the shop. He pried a large board up and out of the way of the rubble, and knelt down to see if he could see anyone or anything in the small space. "Hello," he called to anyone inside. "Is there anyone in here? We're here to help--"

There was no answer. "I can't hear anything, can you?" Ling said, turning to Ran Fan. Her ears had always been a bit sharper than his, after all. "Should we check around back? Or should we hurry on to the next building?"

This was another case where chi sensing would have been very helpful, but she'd gone long enough without it to know how to cope. Ran Fan scanned the building as quickly and carefully as she could.

She shook her head. "I think it is empty," she answered. However, she frowned a little at his question. Time was of the essence here but there was no telling if anyone might be back there. Maybe they should look just in case...?

"I trust your judgement," Ling said, low and determined. He gestured to the next building over. "Let's move on!" The building behind this one appeared to have been a two-story building, a house set over a garage that had collapsed and slid over, nearly onto its side.

"This looks so bad," he muttered. The earthquake proofing in these buildings must have been sorely inadequate. In the back of his mind, Ling noted to himself that having standardized and enforced codes of structural safety in one's kingdom was a wise idea. "Loop around the back from that side, see if you can see or hear anyone. I'll take this side and we'll meet behind. Call if you see or hear anything."
