[OPEN] Earthquake Event

Characters: OPEN
Location: Death City
Rating: Varied
Time: Jan 22
Description: OOC post here.

It's early in the morning -- just after morning training -- when the ground beneath Death City shakes violently in what most of you might recognize as an earthquake. It's not a particularly huge one for the more experienced of the guests, but it sends cracks shooting through the cobblestoned ground of Death City and up the sides of some buildings. A small handful of structures, mostly those that have been abandoned in the course of this war or the very old ones, take the most damage and topple over or crumble at their foundations.

The earthquake lasts no more than half a minute, but the vibrations and aftershocks last through the day. Death City's streets become full of holes, from those the size of apples to what could be described as deep ditches. The greatest damage, however, is the commercial sector, which becomes flooded as the waterways take damage and spill water into the streets. Shibusen's alarms blare out and quick, urgent orders to fix the waterways and search for the injured or anyone trapped in rubble filter in through all networks.

"....Hmmm?" Duke pauses in the middle of helping the cat he'd freed dry off - somewhat. He was a bit damp to be of much use, but he turns partially look back.

A young teen? Okay. He's paying attention. What?

Oh good, she got his attention. "There's someone stuck beneath all this barking rubble. Come help me get them out."

Deryn? Request? She was much too used to ordering people around on an airship to actually request someone to do something. Besides, it was kind of urgent.

"... was not aware that the rubble was barking." Sorry Deryn, he's insanely literal and doesn't understand the use of things that would be considered swears as adjectives.

However if she could hear barking..... Don't mind him talking to the cat and giving it a boost up so it can make it's way off before coming back and inspecting the rubble.

It's fine because Deryn's used to people questioning her words choices by now so she just shrugs off the comment. At least he was coming over to help her.

"Here, hold onto this part." She points at the opposite end of a particularly large piece of plaster from where she's standing. Hopefully with both of them, it will be enough to lift it.

"..." Duke doesn't bother to really give a verbal reply to that, but crouches to shift it.

At least he's helping, even though he's not replying to her. Which is kind of odd, she has to admit. Nevertheless, she grabs at the piece of plaster on her side to lift it.

"Easy does it."

He doesn't really know why she keeps talking.

But lifting, yes. A short noise of effort - he's not quite as strong as he was at home, lacking boosting methods here, but he was still a bit stronger than he looked like he should be. He spend years working with a blade, so he spares a short glance to keep this more or less even in lifting.
bellcaptain: (do not touch my food)

What's wrong with talking? Duke should learn to talk more, as a matter of fact.

It takes a bit of straining but spending months climbing rat-lines gave Deryn a lot muscle. She digs her heels into the rubble at her feet for more stability as she lifts.

"This is barking heavy," she mutters, before adding, "Just a bit more--" She's not actually sure if she's encouraging the man helping her or reassuring the person that's trapped.

Talking unless needing to explain or tell people to go away is a waste of air.

Duke personally wishes he wasn't at this city for this - he could have had it off with an application of a few different formula - but then again he wouldn't be helping some trapped earthquake person if he hadn't been here, so not really worth grumbling about.

"Legs, not back, correct?" More of him making sure the teen was lifting right than anything else.
bellcaptain: (is that pie)

"Aye," Deryn grunts in agreement as she lifts. And slowly, but surely, they manage to lift the board up. She quickly glances to one side to make sure it's clear and nothing too valuable (or living) is there. "Toss it there?"
radiantwingedone: (I need not answer that)

[personal profile] radiantwingedone 2012-02-02 02:36 am (UTC)(link)
"Might as well." And with that, he'll start moving toward tossing over there.
bellcaptain: (no you can't have my potatoes)

[personal profile] bellcaptain 2012-02-03 02:37 am (UTC)(link)
"Alright then. Count of three?" She doesn't bother waiting for his answer and just counts and heaves the plaster to the side after three.
radiantwingedone: (Half in the light)

[personal profile] radiantwingedone 2012-02-06 02:38 am (UTC)(link)
Well. That worked.

Silently inspecting the place where it fell, then what was uncovered.

Oh, a human. He doesn't help the now freed person out, but looks for any animals and... nope.

Ah. Over here there is one. He'll just move to help this trapped dog now.
bellcaptain: (dinner is my favourite time of day)

[personal profile] bellcaptain 2012-02-08 04:30 am (UTC)(link)
Deryn just stares after him as he completely disregards the person that was trapped and instead, save an animal. How barking odd. She turns around to help the person out instead. Thankfully they weren't hurt, just terribly shaken.

"Hey," she calls out to Duke, "thanks for helping me with that." She decides to put aside his odd behaviour for now.

Duke carefully checks the dog's limbs, then brushing debris out of its coat with his fingers. He had the feeling saying that he did it because he was fairly sure he wouldn't be left alone otherwise wouldn't be that good of an idea.

"... No need." To thank him.
