[OPEN] Earthquake Event

It's early in the morning -- just after morning training -- when the ground beneath Death City shakes violently in what most of you might recognize as an earthquake. It's not a particularly huge one for the more experienced of the guests, but it sends cracks shooting through the cobblestoned ground of Death City and up the sides of some buildings. A small handful of structures, mostly those that have been abandoned in the course of this war or the very old ones, take the most damage and topple over or crumble at their foundations.

The earthquake lasts no more than half a minute, but the vibrations and aftershocks last through the day. Death City's streets become full of holes, from those the size of apples to what could be described as deep ditches. The greatest damage, however, is the commercial sector, which becomes flooded as the waterways take damage and spill water into the streets. Shibusen's alarms blare out and quick, urgent orders to fix the waterways and search for the injured or anyone trapped in rubble filter in through all networks.

[A 'may' isn't a guarantee at all, is it? He would really like to ask this guy his motivation for staying. Instead:]

Do you mean that you may be able to ask BREW to allow you to stay?

Yes, we may be able to do that.

I see no reason why it should not work.

[He can think of a thousand reasons why it wouldn't. Still, it's not his place to voice all of them when he knows so little about this person.

He can't help pursuing it, though.]

Would it really be all right? We do not belong to this world in the first place, after all.

Well, I --

[ Clovis has nothing waiting for him back in his world but a coffin. His hand settles over his throat, as he winces, before straightening his posture and walking a little more with purpose. ]

-- just can't leave Spirit alone. He's absolutely hopeless.

[Allen watches carefully, if obliquely; it seems like a delicate topic, but it seems like he isn't the only one practiced at dancing around it.

It takes him a moment of confusion to place the name, though. People of this world and their oddball names...]

Spirit... the Death Scythe? [One of the friendly ones he remembers from the first day.] He is a friend of yours?

One of my dear best friends, yes.

I see.

[Somehow, it seems absolutely strange to him, making friends with the ones originally of Shibusen. He has to admit, though, that it's probably just him.

Is a dear friend a good reason to stay? One has to wonder.]

Was your world very like this one?

[waitedforyou]

No, not at all.

[ A light shake of the head. There is a lot of things that are different, but he just says. ]

It is far more technological advanced.

[briochetime]

Even more...?

[There is such a thing? He can't even imagine it. Perhaps he should be grateful that Death City... is Death City and not somewhere else even stranger.]

It must have been inconvenient to come here.

[Though, moving backwards should be easier than moving forwards, shouldn't it?]

Just a little bit more, yes.

[ Clovis feels funny about talking about his world, since he has not in such a long time. It is oddly become like a memory rather than something real. This is possibly, because he is accepting that he is going to stay here. ]

Not really. I made some rather nice friends and that's what really matters.

Ah...

[Being new, Allen is of course still rather attached to what he left behind. Never mind the fact that he's already let go of everything once; there's a difference between expecting never to go back, and accepting that he may not see anything he knew ever again.

The latter isn't something he'll allow.

The way Clovis phrases his own rationale seems somehow... too flippant, all things considered. Of course, it's none of his business.]

I hope that you're able to stay, then.

It certainly is what I am hoping for.

[briochetime]

[That is what he's hoping, too; to be selfish for a moment.

At this point they've come in sight of the steps, and Allen's feet slow suddenly to a stop. If Clovis looks up, he can probably spot the reason why; there are cracks running up and down the great steps, damage visible even from this far.]

[ Clovis continues on before noticing that he is not being followed. Stopping, he turns back then looks where they are headed. Ah. He takes a few steps back. ]

What happened? Ah, right. So now what do we do?

[briochetime]

[He resists the urge to sigh; everything is so messed up today, you can't even properly walk anywhere, anymore.]

The earth still isn't steady... I don't think it would be very safe to go to Shibusen at the moment. Do you know of anywhere else that may be safe to stay in?

[There isn't any sure place that he knows of, besides the clinic; though he's not holding out especial hope that Clovis will know, either.]

... I'm afraid I don't.

[ He takes a hesitant step back. ]

[After a moment of thought--]

Perhaps the clinic would be best, then. They don't seem to have sustained too much damage.

[And it's a practical place to be in case anything else happens, but he doesn't say that part.]

But what about Spirit?

[ If Spirit is all right, then he can ensure that everyone else is. What with being the strongest Deathscythe. He is not at all happy about this. ]

Spirit...? [Come to think of it, he never asked him why he wanted to come this way, did he? It had all been a bit spur-of-the-moment.] Would he be at Shibusen at this time?

[waitedforyou]

If he can't leave from the building with it looking like this, of course, he would be there.

[briochetime]

My apologies. I was assuming there may be some ways out from within Shibusen other than the stairs... [That would be the practical thing, wouldn't it? Are those huge stairs really the absolute only way to get to the top?]

[waitedforyou]

... I'm just going to keep trying to figure out how to get up to this place. You may go where you like.

[briochetime]

[If Clovis really is going to insist on taking on those stairs, there's really nothing Allen can do -- but he makes a last-ditch effort, anyway.]

There is no possibility that he would have left the building before the earthquake struck?

Do you think so?

You would know him best, but he cannot always be in Shibusen. Would it not be faster to search the places he is mostly like to be in the city, before trying to navigate the stairs?

[Because that in particular is a feat even without the cracks to help.]
