EVENT: From beneath the earth came Death himself

Description: Something bursts from down below.


The tremors have kept going on and off for a day now. By noon, the alarms sound, to warn for the Kishin Eggs coming closer to the city.

People had been warned in advance though, so this isn't a surprise.

The ground suddenly bulging has turned into a somewhat normal thing since yesterday too.

What no one expected was for the bulge to get larger and larger until two figures burst from the ground...and a wave of Madness, sudden and potent and nearly overwhelming struck the city. The Kishin Asura has entered the city from below and on top of that, the Kishin Eggs begin to invade the city.

Luckily, someone else had returned from the deep to help.

((OOC: There will be a separate thread for those who'd like to interact with Shinigami-sama going up. Remember, when Asura bursts from the ground, character powers will be temporarily unlocked but they will also suffer from Madness.

Clinic

[There isn't much Rosalia can do. She doesn't have any unique powers returned to her and she isn't a very capable fighter hand-to-hand, but - as always when it comes to this - she's immediately at the clinic and barricading the doors. The staff will handle the patients; they're far enough from the main flood of Madness, but some people will still need to be restrained.]

[She's not doing well herself; not without her partner. Still, she's going to try keeping kishin eggs away with her butcher's knife from the kitchen.]

[It was quite a parade by the time D arrived at the clinic, looking like some kind of pied piper although his collection included far more than rats.]

Miss Rosalia! Are you okay?

[Was she really trying to defend the place on her own with just a knife? Where were the others who worked at the clinic? Were they all busy with patients already?]

[bloodinbloom]

D?? Ah...!

[Of course she was surprised by the numerous animals behind him. Glancing at her butcher's knife, she waved her hands.]

I-I'm okay! They haven't come this way and if they have, I haven't seen them... a-and this is not for the animals you brought. It's the only thing I could think of before stepping outside. [She probably didn't have to explain that considering, but Madness always made her a bit more nervous.]

[loveanddreams]

[He glanced over his shoulder at the animals. Some of the creatures seemed on edge themselves, another effect of the Madness.] It's all right. She's a friend.

[Turning back to her,he explained...] It appears my ability to understand the speech of animals and communicate with them has returned somehow. They followed me here, drawn by my blood.

Are you the only one here?

It has? That's great, D!

Uhm, no. Mr. Lezard is here, but he's a Deathscythe and I can't really wield him. All the other Partners are around, handling the eggs before they can get here.

[loveanddreams]

That man who turns into a book? You're not able to use him? [But he supposed that didn't really matter now that he was here. He stepped to her side.]

You can put aside that knife now and I will ask the animals to help warn us if there are any enemies approaching.

[bloodinbloom]

He's too strong for me...

[It hurt a bit to hold him unprepared as she was. Looking up at him, she nodded and... glanced around, not sure where to put the knife.] One second...! [She ran to the clinic's doors, knocked, and passed her knife off to someone inside before running back to D.]

Okay, I'm ready!

[loveanddreams]

[As she went to get rid of the knife, D turned back to the animals, calmly addressing them.]

Everyone, I am going to ask for your assistance in this matter. Please spread out from here and report back if you see kishin eggs coming this way. They are corrupted beings and will likely carry the scent of their victims' blood.

[The animals responded with what would sound like simple barks, meows, chirps, and squeaks to Rosalia but he understood them perfectly and nodded as he turned back to her.]

They've agreed to help. Now let us prepare...

[He took her hand and transformed as the animals fanned out from the clinic.]

[It was all animal chatter, but she trusted D to know exactly what he was doing. Nodding to him and smiling, she took hold of his hand and cupped his Weapon form after he transformed.]

What kind of animals do you think we should go with?

[He tried to concentrate but it was somewhat harder than usual with the Madness. Their link formed, smoke began to curl through the incense burner's filigree lid but at a slower pace than normal.]

We'll have less space being in the city like this. Something that can maneuver in these smaller spaces would be preferable.

[bloodinbloom]

[She's doing her best. Resonating helps lessen the Madness's influence.]

So... birds, and maybe rats, cats and snakes?

We can try those to start. They'll also be less likely to cause panic than a tiger if anyone is still in the streets.

[More smoke was gathering and it would just take some concentration to coax it into the desired animals.]

Okay...!

[Yay, she came up with a good idea. They would start with birds and then make the rats.]

[The smoke divided, half of it rising into the air to take shape as hawks while the remainder sank down to the ground, becoming a pack of rats.]

[Meanwhile, the sounds of real animals carried and D listened carefully.]

The animals have informed me of a possible kishin egg approaching. Four blocks away to your right.

[bloodinbloom]

[That looked like a good number of animals to start with.]

Four blocks right? Hmm... [Looking between the smoke animals.]

Let's have some of the hawks go first... maybe they could attack and distract it while the rats attack from below.

That is an excellent idea, Miss Rosalia. I'm not certain how far away from us the animals we've created can travel but we should at least be able to surprise the creature that's approaching.

[The kishin egg wasn't within sight yet but closing the distance. Perhaps, they would meet in the middle...]

Okay... so, we'll just have them...

[D's idea came to her and she agreed with it. The animals would just have to meet them in the middle... secretly.]

[loveanddreams]

[The birds flew in the direction indicated, the rats following them on the ground. About two blocks away, their target came into view and the birds swooped down on it.]

Now, let's see how our rats do...

[bloodinbloom]

Right...!

[She held the incense burner tightly. They could do it!]

[loveanddreams]

[The kishin eggs raised its arms to swipe at the birds as they aimed their beaks at its head. Busy with the birds, it didn't see the rats coming at all and stumbled as the rodents bit into its ankles, causing the bruises characteristic of Rosalia's virus.]

[But at the sound of barks, D spoke up again.]

The animals say there's another coming from the opposite direction. We may have to split our attention.

[bloodinbloom]

[She watched as her virus appeared and the smoke animals continued to swarm the egg. They were doing really good, but the barking caught her attention too.]

The other direction? Okay... we'll send a few more small animals to meet it too.

[loveanddreams]

[More smoke flowed from the incense burner, turning into a group of cats and running off.]

About three blocks. Let's hope no others approach from different directions until we are finished with these.

[It was a bit frustrating. If he had been back home, he would have had all the animals of the shop at his disposal to help devour any troublesome enemies.]

Yeah. We might be in trouble then...

[And pulling any animals back would be dangerous too. Hm... maybe it was the Madness making a little more worried than usual, but they had to do whatever they could... or try.]

[loveanddreams]

[The Madness was making it as if dozens of animal voices were running through his mind, making it hard to concentrate. Still, he managed to create another medium-sized cloud of smoke.]

We'll just have to try to finish them off quickly.

[The first kishin egg was fighting against the hawks and rats despite the virus, struggling to get closer to them. And the second tried to kick away the cats as they directed their claws at its legs.]

We can do that.

[Looking at the medium-sized cloud, she wonders if she should turn it into anything right now. Either direction, it looks like the Kishin eggs were being taken down between the small attacks and virus spreading through their bodies. She had to transform the smoke wisely...]
