EVENT: To Defeat Fear Itself

Description: It's time to take out the Witches' machine.

In order to combat the witch's machine, Shibusen has brought along more agents with the Calming Wavelength. They can't entirely banish that skin-crawling feeling the Witch's machine produces and the closer you get to where the witches are keeping the machine, the worse it gets.

It won't be as bad as what happened in Death City, but it's not exactly going to be a cakewalk either. In addition to that, a large section of what used to be the city of Lucerne is covered by a solid black half-sphere that oozes large amounts of Madness. A left over from Shibusen's failure to defend the city back in December and probably part of the reason why the witches chose this city.

You have your work cut out for you trying to deal with the Kishin Eggs prowling the area as well as the witch's familiars, which consists of a mix of giant lizards and giant praying mantises.

The machine is almost dangerously close to the black mass, but with courage and a partner you can rely on, it's not impossible to make it there.

[With Lily and Lezard stationed at the tents, Rosalia and Count D were moved back to the mirrors. In case of any emergency evacuation, routes to them needed to remain clear and in tact. As usual, they were connected to the clinic meaning injured patients would be on the other side. Obviously, the small manager wasn't going to allow any Kishin eggs to get through if she could help it.]

[She bit her lip and hoped her determination was enough to help both her and D fight against the feeble, but present Terror Wavelength. At least it had a name; she remembered when that guest arrived even and it had been terrifying. Though, if it hadn't happened, she probably wouldn't be partnered with Count D now. Even though it was a good event, Rosalia didn't think it would be a good idea to thank the creature that caused all that havoc.]

[Eyes opened, she watched as forces came closer to their side and clutched the incense burner. Though her feet turned in, her knees managed not to shake.]

They're almost here.

[D had been concerned about Rosalia after the incident in the park the other day, how frightened she had been. But the girl insisted on helping so they were here, protecting the mirrors back to the clinic.]

[Although this was some distance back from where the main battles were taking place, a few kishin eggs were approaching. With oversized heads resembling the huge masks seen at Lucerne’s Fasnacht, the might have seen a bit comical. But these were far more frightening than any frozen Carnival mask. Grotesque faces with twisted features that moved. Glowing eyes that fixed on their target and sharp teeth that appeared capable of easily tearing off a limb. Costumes splattered with the blood of previous victims.]

Be careful, Miss Rosalia.

[He focused on creating the smoke for her to manipulate, until there was quite a large cloud of it, thick as a heavy fog. She should be able to make something sizable and sturdy with this.]

Let's see what we can summon this time, shall we?

[People would always come before her. She had to make sure that the others would make it back safe and sound. Still, those masks were super creepy and they didn't need to move right now. Rosalia bit her lip, but prepared herself.]

I'll be careful...

[With the smoke coming out, she looked at it curiously.]

Yeah... you said it could be larger animals now?

I've felt a bit stronger since we visited that sheep farm in New Zealand. I suspect we might be able to create something larger this time. Perhaps, a tiger or a bear...

[Still releasing smoke, he kept an eye on the kishin eggs approaching.]

Shall we show this rabble what we can do?

A tiger or bear? Hm...

[Well, she always liked cats... so she would give it a try.]

Yes. They're not getting through this mirror...! [Concentrating on the smoke, she tried willing it into a large Bengal Tiger.]

[The smoke coalesced, coming together into a thick cloud with several protruding wisps that formed into a head, legs and a tail. Looking nearly as opaque and solid as a real tiger now, it stretched its jaws open and roared.]

You only need give it a little direction. Tigers are very territorial...

[No, the kishin eggs wouldn't even get within 10 yards of the mirror if the tiger had its way.]

Okay.

[She's amazed they managed to make that huge cat.]

... We need to protect the mirror. Don't let any of those kishin eggs or familiars get near it.

[For now, D simply watched and concentrated on maintaining his link with Rosalia.]

[The tiger moved forward and pounced on the nearest ludicrously costumed kishin egg, knocking it onto its back and biting into its leg.]

That's it...!

[That was a very good tiger. She wondered if they would be able to summon more animals when the time came. They just reached this level; she didn't want to push D.]

[The kishin egg looked like it might have been starting to bleed from Rosalia's virus too but it was difficult to tell with the blood already staining its garments. A swipe of the tiger's paw added to the infection as it struggled to escape. It wouldn't be long now...]

[Meanwhile, more smoke was slowly curling from the incense burner and collecting near them, ready to be called upon when needed.]

[With more incense to work with, Rosalia bit her tongue and attempted the form the next suggestion D had made. They needed a big bear next to help the tiger.]

[Once again, the smoke began to solidify, this time taking the appearance of a grizzly bear. At the right moment too. A second kishin egg had reached the fallen one and was now trying to rescue its friend from the tiger.]

Well, we cannot let that badly proportioned creature escape, can we?

No. It might hurt someone.

[She looks at the grizzly bear] Go help your friend fight the kishin eggs!

Miss Rosalia, were you aware that bears are very fast runners? They can even outrun a racehorse at a short distance.

[As if to demonstrate, the grizzly charged towards the group, knocking over the second kishin egg.]

Really? Wow...

[She didn't know that and watched in amazement how fast the bear took down the second egg. Good animals!]

Yes. However, they don't have much endurance so they can't continue for longer distances. And bears can run downhill despite myths to the contrary.

[Yes, the animals were being quite efficient. Another swipe of the tiger's paw and the first kishin egg was no more. Good timing because more were coming.]

... Someone said bears can't run downhill?

[That doesn't make sense to her. With the first egg down and more coming, she tells the tiger to get ready. Were they going to need another animal?]

Some misinformed people believe so. And that bears can't climb trees but that's another myth.

[Two more kishin eggs were coming but little smoke was coming out of the incense burner.]

I suppose we'll have to concentrate on maintaining our current pets. I'm not sure if I can summon another right now.

[Well, the tiger was ready... and the bear was almost done with his opponent.]

We can do it. I'm sure... [She's going to remain positive!]

[The kishin eggs were drawing closer, these dressed as clowns, the type that would likely give people nightmares with their bloody polka dotted costumes and enormous painted faces.]

Let's have our tiger greet them while the bear finishes up with their friend.

[... Oh gosh, those were creepy, but Rosalia wasn't going to run away and leave the mirror vulnerable.]

Okay! Tiger, there's a few more coming this way! Don't let them get any closer!

[It almost looked like some twisted circus act the way the tiger rose up onto its hind legs to try to knock the kishin egg down. Only to have the monstrous clown try to stretch its jaws open over the tiger's head. The tiger swiped at the clown's throat but it was clearly having trouble now.]

Miss Rosalia, be prepared to summon another creature if necessary.

[A fair amount of smoke had gathered in the air around them by now but not as much yet as they had used for the previous animals.]

Oh no...!

[This wasn't good. She was prepared to create more creatures to help the tiger... but also thinking of a flock of birds. Probably not a good thing, but she didn't want to see the tiger get its head bitten off even if it was smoke too.]

[The poor tiger was now being ganged up on by the two clown-like kishin eggs. The virus was infecting them where the tiger scratched but it could still use a hand.]

[Or rather a beak or a paw. The smoke condensed, forming into a small flock of crows. The bear had also finished off its previous opponent.]

It seems we'll have to teach those clowns not to mistreat animals.

[The murder of crows would do. She quickly had them go assist the tiger against its opponents. Once the bear was able to attack again, she directed it towards the kishin eggs too.]

That's right. Leave them alone!
