[Event] Invasion!
Characters: OPEN to everyone!
Location: All over Death City
Rating: Various
Time: February 2nd
Description: Witches have invaded and are attacking the city!
The attack, when it comes, happens quickly enough that Death City would have been caught flat-footed had there been no prior warning, but it's not completely unexpected because of the city's heightened state of alarm the past day. Warning sirens start sounding to alert the citizens and guests the moment a dark, slow-moving mass out in the desert to the south-east of Death City is spotted by Shibusen sentries. There's even time for civilians to run and hide before the mass is identified as an army of what looks like decaying, shambling corpses. The city's defenders are slow to move, however; most of them are distracted and are having trouble dealing with the black blood in their bodies. While agents are gathering to head out to deal with the zombie threat, that's when the witches make their move.
Portals begin opening in the skies above the city, disgorging hideous familiars: bulbous spiders and leggy ants the size of dogs. They drop hundreds of feet down into the streets and alleyways of Death City, and scuttle off in search of victims. The spiders are poisonous and can spin copious amounts of web to capture their targets, the ants spit acid that cause agonizing, paralyzing pain. Their masters bear down on the city in a cloud of black shadows--massive ravens strong enough to carry off adult men. There are five witches, women on broomsticks, beautiful if not for their crazed grins and obvious glee at the chaos descending upon the city. At some unknown signal--maybe the cackling from a couple of them--they dive in concert and disappear into different areas of the city.
Their masterful plan has begun!

Ling!
[Maybe he should fight Ling. They've never really fought before, have they? He stares at him hard, still having trouble differentiating between friend and foe.]
no subject
[Ling swings past Ed to stab a huge spider that's right behind his friend. He rams his sword into its face right up to the hilt, then hacks off a leg.]
God, I wish you could use your alchemy right now!
no subject
She quickly and silently dispatches two zombies in her way with kunai before approaching Ling and Ed. She retrieves one of her knives from a corpse and produces another from her uniform.]
Master! These creatures do not appear to be decreasing in number. [Or maybe that's the paranoia talking. And yes, she knows you're there too Ed.]
no subject
Alchemy or not, I can still fight these things. [His short sword is covered with the blood of other creatures he's come across.] There's not really another option, is there.
no subject
Ran Fan! I'm so glad you're all right!
[A genuine look of worry that has been in his eyes passes away now,]
We'll be okay. At least they don't regenerate, eh? Try to imagine if they were all Gluttony?
no subject
Yes, they are clearly not immortals.
[Stab. One more dead spider. She gives Ed a short glare as if to tell him to do what Ling says or he'll have to deal with her if they make it out of this.]
no subject
Ling, I don't know...
[He sees that glare from Ran Fan but chooses to ignore it; he's not afraid of her.]
no subject
If there was ever a time that you would need to have some guts, it's now. Let's blow these guys away.
no subject
Th-there is no other way to fight more effectively here.
[Which she really hates admitting knowing Ling's not at 100% but at least she was there to keep an eye on things.]
no subject
Alright. Let's do it.
no subject
[Ed is now holding a bright white and gold guandao, or halberd, with a long, wickedly curved blade and a dark red tassel. Ornamental carvings of pheonixes and clouds decorate the hilt of the blade and the cap at the bottom. Xingese characters on the hilt read "Halberd of the Golden Phoenix."]
[There's a very excited, very much shirtless Ling reflecting back at them in the platinum colored metal of the blade.]
Ahhh, I'd been wanting to show you two my weapon form for sooooo long! What do you think?
Think you can figure out how to use one of these, Ed? Ran Fan and I can help you with the basics.
no subject
Right. And you must be careful.
[And she stabs a zombie in the head.]
no subject
I don't need instruction. [He gives Ling a quick swipe through the air, to test him. His experience with blades had a fairly wide range and he felt fairly confident that a Xing blade would only take a moment to get used to.]
no subject
There's more to it than just the Amestrian kind of spear. The shaft and the blade are more flexible, so you have a wider attack range because of that flexibility. Plus, the blade carves through things better because it bends a little. Imagine you can use the edge to scoop and you've got the right idea.
Okay Ran Fan, let's do this! We'll show these creatures who's boss!
no subject
Yes, Master!
[She turns her "attention" to Ed while fighting off another spider.]
Stay focused.
no subject
With that, he took off towards another spider that was skittering towards them, slashing viciously at it with Ling, his teeth gritted together as he moved quickly around to shred at the beast.
It was a strange feeling, to fight with someone else's consciousness coinciding with his own. There was something else there too, something familiar to one he'd lost when he came here: alchemy. He could feel the energy here, growing stronger as he fought against the spiders. Was this what he'd been waiting for?
Taking a few step back from another spider, he closed his eyes briefly, focusing on the feeling of performing alchemy, the visual of the transmutation circle. Snapping his eyes open a split second later, he transformed Ling into a spear, the bladed edge shooting up to drive through the spider's head.]
no subject
[Ling's voice falls flat as he sees thereflection of his new shape in a store window.]
But-- why'd you have to make me so ugly.
no subject
Wh-What...?
[She's cut off as a zombie makes a grab for her. Her punches and kunai start flying once more as she turns to focus to the creatures near her.]
no subject
What are you talking about, you look cool.
[He's distracted too once he sees Ran Fan moving again, but he's pretty fascinated with this new-found power and transforms Ling once more, back nearly to the shape he was before but with some Ed-inspired embellishments (you know what to expect) as he rushed forward at some of the approaching creatures.]
no subject
Ahh-- Ran Fan, look out! To your left. Ed, behind you--
[Ugh, Ed's put ghastly horns and bright colors on what was once a rather tasteful halberd design. But he doesn't have much time to think about that, because...]
[Hm? There's something he can sense underneath his consciousness that he hadn't felt before, and it feels as if it's kind of... poking at him inside his soul. He wonders if he might be able to try pushing the resonation a little farther. Maybe there's some stuff he can do that he doesn't know about, as well.]
[He relaxes into a meditative state and tries to feel for Ed's soul wavelength, even as Ed's attacking the group of creatures.]
no subject
[She takes out another zombie before turning and throwing both kunai into an approaching spider.
As much as Ran Fan feels like she should be overseeing Ed and Ling trying to resonate, she was a little busy making sure they didn't get completely surrounded by these monsters. She'd just keep an eye out everywhere and speak up whenever she needed to.
For now she had two more zombies nearby that needed to be stabbed in vital spots.]
no subject
In his state, he doesn't realize how quickly he's exerting himself by using his new-found power so much and with such rapidity, but Ling could feel it clearly as he slashes through the undead bodies. Another minute or more and he'd be struggling.]
no subject
[In his worry over Ed's state, Ling takes his attention from his (rather patronizing) watching over Ran Fan.]
[He must be doing this because he's so relieved to have something close to his alchemy back, Ling guesses. His heart hurts for his friend. Ed's alchemical ability seemed to pretty much be his self-worth, his self-defense, and even his self-image.]
[To have it suddenly stripped away in a strange place, Ling supposes, has got to have been extremely confusing and painful all this time. Surely it's a lot like how he feels, at having no Fu and living separately from Ran Fan.]
[He'll try the best he can to speak convincingly to Ed.]
Try to calm down. Listen, there're a ton of monsters in the city right now. You need to pace yourself carefully. You can handle this, Ed, you've got both of us, right here with you.
no subject
Case in point, as she finishes killing another zombie she catches sight of a large black bird just above him with its talons out. With no time to spare, she races toward Ed to try to push him out of the way.]
Watch!
[There was less time than she had been hoping for, however, since the bird gets a hold of her shoulders and begins ascending again. Ran Fan tries to fight her way out, but her limbs can't reach it as it stands.]
Release me!
no subject
[Ed scrambles forward to try grab at her as she's pulled up, fingers grazing her ankle before she's lifted too high off the ground.
He holds onto Ling for the moment, with nothing else to do but stare helplessly after her.]
What the hell do we do?! [He voices the question mostly to Ling but a bit in general as well.]
(no subject)
I'm assuming it's okay to skip abducted Ran Fan?
