Time: 6am to 9am
Description: Training takes place every morning in the park to prepare the guests of the city for the ongoing war. It's handwaved most days, but approximately once a month this gets played out in a log. This log takes place on Thursday, September 16th.

[She shook her head and blinked rapidly a couple of times at being addressed as if shaking off a daze.]

...Oh, Lezard. I just thought I'd take a walk.

[The tea and breakfast things made her feel a tad guilty that she'd slipped out that morning without a word or preparing anything. She sat down on the blanket after some rearranging of the petticoat under today's vintage dress.]

Um, sorry for not saying anything before I left.

I'd presumed there was more paperwork to sign off on with the completion of the renovation.

[But he was fooling himself. She'd been this way ever since they'd come back from Japan and spoke rather sparingly on the topic. Pouring the second cup of tea, he offered it to her without a word. Surely, she would speak if she needed to.]

No, I took care of that last week.

[She took the tea with a murmured "thanks" and stared into the amber liquid as if the tea leaves might provide an answer but she'd never been good at scrying. Finally, she spoke.]

I'm still not sure what to do next. Do they really expect us to hunt a witch?

[There were other concerns too but they were all jumbled together like the charms and wax of a conjure ball.]

We're expected to hunt a witch on the Shinigami's most wanted list, no less. Such a powerful soul keeps the ninety-nine I've absorbed in check...

[With that he lay a hand on his chest. It was a bizarre feeling, like hot flashes or small chill spells. One individual was not meant to house another ninety-nine without assistance.]

I'm fully prepared to undergo such a mission, if anything to end this... discomfort, but it is something I can endure. It's my understanding we've found where the Witch Medusa may perhaps be hiding, and she's the key to the war.

Folks have been telling me about some of the things witches have done here but I still can't say it sits that well with me. Even if they've committed crimes, it's still a life.

[But then she frowned at the hand on his chest. She remembered him saying that he sometimes felt the demon souls within him and recalled hearing that Naoto had needed a couple of days in the clinic after absorbing a witch soul.]

Discomfort? Have you not been feeling well?

[It didn't really matter what her condition was, Naoto would be here to teach at the shooting range. She was fine today. Rested and ready to keep people from shooting anywhere, but the targets, she paced the field and corrected those who needed help or seemed to be off elsewhere. Seriously, don't shoot anyone.]

According to the accounts given by our current Deathscythe Naoto, housing ninety-nine souls is a feat that Weapons are capable of, but something that must be endured until the final soul is absorbed.

It seems the battles I've won have strengthened me, enough that they will not overwhelm me, but it is something of a trial.

[He lowered that hand and instead focused on adding just one more sugar cube to his own cup.]

But there is truth in what you say. They were all once children and young adults of a normal sway like--

[He paused, then laughed.]

[D is usually in the habit of bringing along his own tea and pastries but he supposes he should sample some of the things from the breakfast table. After all, Miss Rosalia did help cook all of it and he was going to be her partner now. A plate in his long nailed hand, he looks over the selection.]

What to try? Something vegetarian…

[Lily frowned. She didn't want him to suffer but she still didn't want to believe that was the only resort. Would this finally force her hand in the matter?]

But if they were all normal once, couldn't there be some way of preventing them from becoming like that?

[Like always, Morgan is wondering if any new Weapons will show up. After checking on the sparring area, the pirate hunter stops by the partner finding area to see if any Weapons she hasn't resonated with before have appeared.]

The short, unfortunate answer is no. Once the witches mature, so too does their magic. However...

[He reached to refill his cup.]

The nature of their magic determines their fate, it seems. Kim Diehl, the benevolent witch you'd learned of, bears regenerative magic. Non-destructive. She has matured, yet her Sway is to heal rather than harm. Of course, such magic is rare. Odd to me, as beneficial magic was in abundance in my world, perfect for the war.

[He sipped.]

At the very least, not all witches wind up on the wanted list. By Shibusen estimates, those allied under Medusa's blood-soaked banner number but a fragment of the world's total populace of witches.

The rest, wherever they may be, simply hate humanity. They play tricks and curse humans.

[Even if she's been feeling a bit lonely lately, that's no reason to let herself get out of practice. Morgan is working on her acrobatics in an open area, turning backflips and somersaults with a sword in hand.]

[But if you catch her during a break, you might notice her glancing over at those who actually have someone to practice with and a touch of sadness coming over her face before she quickly shakes it off.]

[She finally took a sip of her neglected tea as he spoke.]

The witch that Kanji mentioned... So, she's a healer as I was back home.

[She'd been meaning to check into the matter but with what had happened in Matsue, it had slipped to the back of her mind.]

Well, playing tricks is a far cry from kidnappings and killing people which is what others claim. Magic was a continuum of good and evil in my world so it seems strange that so many should tend towards the negative side of things as if there's no other choice. And you can't just practice the dark arts without sharing in the damage.

[D is at the park most mornings although it's usually more to enjoy the greenery and some tea than to train. Today, he notices a little girl he hasn't seen before among the people training. Surely, she couldn't be one of the fighters, could she?]

[Unfortunately, this version of D isn't a Meister. But he is attracted to cute animal-like things.]

What an adorable creature! I've never seen one like it before!

[He's rather tempted to pick Kyubey up and examine him.]

I wouldn't think so. I'm part of an alien species after all.

An alien species? Are you by any chance from the same place as Mr. Keroro?

[He answered that pretty straight forward.]

[So, there were multiple planets with adorable alien wildlife! He wonders if he can acquire such creatures for his shop when he returns home...]

[He crouches down to better speak with the cat-like being.]

That's an unusual name for a species. Is your kind known for its magic?

When the ancestors of most in the supernatural sway exude madness itself, it's no surprise that the 'continuum' - as you've put it - is primarily evil.

For that, I presume, there is no consequence for practicing dark magic here. You make the changes you desire, and for many it's simply 'I have the power and these people do not. I will flex my powers and rule these lower beings in my own way'.

This is where the Shinigami comes in, to bring some form of balance. The Witches that have committed kidnappings, murder and human experimentation are the ones that go on his list. The Gorgon Sisters, indeed, have committed many a terrible act. The sister Arachne is dead, and the sister Medusa seeks to remove Shibusen itself so that Witches may truly be 'free'. When the mind is maddened and drunk with malevolent power, such 'freedom' means you can treat humanity however you wish with - once again - no consequence.

In this regard, it's no wonder that the others have gone into hiding. Do you wonder if perhaps they lie in wait for Medusa to be removed before they, too, feel free?
