It took quite a bit of work (and some professional help after some do-it-yourself projects went awry) but the expanded version of Yesterday’s Magic was finally ready for business. The storefront between the shop’s original space and Northern Lights had been rented out, cleaned, painted, and furnished before being filled with clothes of different eras.

The garments and accessories still covered about a hundred years, beginning with the late 1800s but the selection had grown with the doubling of the shop space. The original store contained only women’s clothes now with the menswear being moved next door. Also in the back of the new space was a proper fitting room to replace the makeshift curtained off spaces of the old shop. From Victorian lingerie to 1980s power suits, old band t-shirts to evening gowns, top hats to saddle shoes, it was possible to find a little of everything. A corner dedicated to costume items included things such as feather boas, cowboy boots and nurse uniforms. And a special rack held vintage reproductions made by Kanji while a sign in the window noted that tailoring services were available.

To celebrate the occasion, there were plates of decorated sugar cookies shaped like shoes and dresses on a small table by the door. Pitchers of iced tea and lemonade sat next to stacks of napkins and paper cups, offering a small snack for those with a sweet tooth.

And the other special addition was a table covered with various odds and ends. Scraps of vintage fabric salvaged from damaged garments, bits of old lace and ribbon, a jar full of buttons, a box of loose beads. A pair of scissors, spools of thread, packets of sewing needles, packages of pins, and bottles of glue were placed next to a sign encouraging customers to use the scraps to create accessories or embellish their purchases.
