With the gala being planned for next weekend, this weekend promised to be a busy one at Yesterday’s Magic. Lily had stayed late to rearrange the shop after hearing the news yesterday and now that she had completed her usual pre-opening salt water, sage, and candle ritual, she paused to survey her handiwork before unlocking the door.

On one side, the racks towards the front were now hung with suits, tuxedos, and the occasional tailcoat covering every decade from the 1890s to the 1980s. And on the other side, clouds of tulle, taffeta, lace, and chiffon enveloped the racks, some of the outfits pricey but generally cheaper than a new gown at a department store would be. Baskets of glittering costume jewelry, opera gloves, shawls, and bow ties waited, their contents soon to adorn partygoers’ arms and necks. Vintage heels, dress shoes, and even a few top hats lined the shelves next to the small curtained-off spaces that served as changing areas. The business suits, more casual everyday clothes, and frilly old-fashioned lingerie had been moved to the back and the whole shop was scented with fresh laundry and rosemary and sage.

Turning to the shop window, Lily adjusted a sign advertising that tailoring services were available and the smaller one next to it that read “Help Wanted.” Now that business had picked up somewhat, another clerk or two would be a help. With Kanji taking missions regularly—he would be out today but was scheduled to be in Saturday and Sunday—and her need to frequently go out in search of new inventory, Yuugi being left to watch the shop alone wasn’t uncommon. Satisfied that everything was in place, she unlocked the door and flipped the closed sign to open.

"You're saying this evil spirit has telekinetic powers?" The normal Bakura had told her about some of the trouble his evil twin caused back in their world but there had been no mention of telekinesis. Something else she'd have to ask about when she next saw him...

"I'm Lily Ivory, the owner of this shop." She eyed the dress he was holding. "Do you really mean to buy that? Did you check if you can even fit into it?" Not to mention that it was made for a woman's curves rather than a man's figure!

Yamazaki looked uncertain.

"I am not sure if he has telekinetic powers, but he is an evil spirit and evil spirits always have supernatural powers. It wouldn't be a surprise if he was able to read our mind..." He had a feeling that this refined lady didn't believe everything he said, but he was sure about Bakura-kun having demonic powers. He was a demon, after all. And this fact made all of his powers demonic. Even if it was a simple thing like cooking or singing, it was demonic power, because Bakura-kun was a demon. But this way of thinking made him a bit dizzy.

"It's a very pretty name, hard to forget. And...uh, well you are the shopkeeper, couldn't you choose me a fitting gown? I am not sure if blue is my color. We can talk about the size and tayloring later."

[Kaede shook her head. The colors just didn't look right for Chika.]

It looks too bright for you. You should go with uh.. a green color!

*Auron gave him a side-eye glance but then shrugged.* All right. Have fun making us all look good, kid.

[Hiro takes the vest and watches Lily go.] Let's see... I think the notched collar is better.

[Lily nodded.] I'll keep that in mind.

Green, red, and blues... [She repeated the colors as she flipped through a rack of skirts and blouses. After a minute, she pulled out a short-sleeved blouse of the palest blue and held it up for Di to examine.] How about this?

Okay. [She looks over at Hiro, trying to guess what would be the right size for him. Then, more flipping through the racks and eventually pulling out a few she thinks might fit him. They're all pretty similar with the variations being in whether the jackets are single or double breasted and how wide the satin lapels are.] Maybe, one of these?

At this point, Lily was really starting to wonder if he was just making most of this up. She raised an eyebrow, asking, "And just how many evil spirits have you met?"

"Um, thanks." She looked between the gown and Yamazaki, thinking it was either going to take a lot of padding or a lot of work by Kanji to make that dress fit properly. Maybe, she should try to steer him towards a flapper gown. The fashions of the 1920s were loose and the boyish figure that was the ideal for women back then meant that one of those dresses would be more likely to fit without drastic alterations. Kanji would likely be kept busy enough with regular alterations in the next week!

"Actually, I'm not sure if that's the right style for you... Maybe, something like this would be better." And she gestured towards a 1920s dress decorated with fabric flowers and lots of ruffles.

[Di took the blouse, turning it over so she could look at it. It was pretty, simple, and did look breezy. These past couple days had been a lot for a troll, even one more open and welcoming of the heat such as her.]

I like it.

[She held it against herself, craning her next a bit to see how well it fit.]

Do you think it'd suit me?

[Mulan had recently come to learn of the gala. Large social affairs had never been her thing, but she was slowly opening up to them and trying to get herself out there more. Though she had been gone from Death City for a long time, she had only recently started becoming honest with herself from her perspective. It was strange to be in a place where her opinion was valued, and where she was not expected to act in a way that went against who she was.

The gala seemed a perfect opportunity to get to know more people outside of her role as an instructor. The difficulty now lay in the fact that everyone was required to come with a partner.

While Mulan understood that in this time and age, a person could...'court' someone without there being commitment or judgment, she was still nervous about the idea. While progressive for her time there were certain habits that were hard to break.

As she was mulling through this and absently looking at some dresses, she caught a familiar figure out of the corner of her eye. She turned to look at Miles Edgeworth and smiled to herself, making her way towards him.]

Sir Edgeworth. [She greeted him with her usual politeness, and a small bow.]

[prosecutory]

[He looks up, a bit surprised to see her. Had he really been so engrossed with figuring out what to wear on yet another night friends forced him on?]

Er - not quite; I was only looking through the suits in stock, Miss Ivory.

[prosecutory]

[Edgeworth was just replacing the suits and contemplating a third when Mulan approached him.]

Good afternoon, Miss Mulan. [He returns the bow with his usual, bowing smoothly with the practice of someone clearly well-schooled in manners. It was indeed a good afternoon when he got to see her; she was a polite, skilled young woman he had a healthy amount of respect for.]

[The feeling was a mutual one.]

It is good to see you. It has been some time since we have talked. [They briefly had when she had returned to Death City, but that had mostly been business. She wanted to know what he was up to these days.]

How have you been doing?

I see. Are you looking for something to wear for the gala? Most of the folks who've come in this weekend have been looking for tuxedos or gowns.

[She smoothed a few garments on the next rack back into place as she spoke. The selection was starting to get a tad picked over...]

[Lily studied the effect and nodded.] It looks nice. Let's see if we can find you a skirt to go with it...

[Her fingers flipped through more hangers, stopping at a blue and green print skirt, and she glanced over for Di's opinion.] What do you think?

[prosecutory]

Yes, I am. [A curt nod.]

[prosecutory]

I've been fine, thank you for asking. Business with the Agency has gone on as usual. [He did a very good job of hiding the new development that was Genesis struggling with the Black Blood. Otherwise, he was pleasant enough.]

The truth was the only evil spirit Yamazaki had ever met was a woman in red type ghost. It appeared in their headquarter and later she proved to be an alien. A non-evil type alien.

"Aside of Bakura-kun...it was only one I've met personally, and she was not an evil spirit, actually. But I've read a lot of them!"

To be honest, Yamazaki was not fond of the thought of wearing a gown, any kind of gown, and he was quite relieved when Lily suggested him a bit less ladylike dress. He hesitantly tilted his head as he thoroughly looked through the flapper gown.

"Yes, I thought exactly something like this. I was sure you could help me!"

He seemed ridiculously happy and thankful.

"Read a lot of them? You shouldn't believe everything you read, you know." Lily had the feeling he might have been speaking of horror novels rather than the type of occult reference books Aidan kept in his office at the Wax Museum.

For someone who didn't really want to wear a dress, he looked overly happy about this ruffly outfit. But she took the green flapper dress from the rack and held it out to him, gesturing that they should exchange garments. "I reckon you should try it on. And I'll put that blue dress back."

Did you have an idea of what you wanted? A traditional tuxedo or something more colorful? [Since he usually seemed to wear wine red suits...]

[prosecutory]

Yes...I was thinking of wearing a more traditional tuxedo, possibly in black or gray.

[For the bow tie.]

LOL don't we have an Alucard around?

Yamazaki felt a bit offended.

"I don't believe everything I read, like those stories about Dracula and his merry men, but there were real experts wrote on this subject who are absolutely reliable." Well, compared to the experts who were not absolutely reliable...

"Yes, I guess I should...try it on...that dress..."

He gave back the blue dress to Lily and hid himself in a chamber nearby. As he started to change he shouted out.

"But don't laugh!"

Let's see. I think I like... this one. [Hiro picks a single-breasted jacket with lapels that aren't too wide.]

[She nods, replacing the others.] Do you need a dress shirt too or do you already have one? Oh, and a tie of some type.

Yep, the Castlevania one!

"Are you sure you're not thinking of Robin Hood and his Merry Men?" She was pretty sure Dracula never had anything to do with a band of thieves...

Lily watched as he disappeared behind the curtain and shook her head. "I won't..."

Well, somehow, Lily has managed not to during this whole conversation. But maybe that's just because she's been too bewildered about the whole thing.
