Description: After finally being permitted out of the hospital’s quarantine Eren has nothing better to do than


a) Run in front of a car

b) Look like a suicidal idiot on a wall

c) Stare at everybody who’s not Caucasian white or has a non-standard hair-color during training time.

d) Do all of the above with predictable consequences.

"The corps? Don't think I'm familiar with your group." Even if he could handle heights, Steve walked closer until there were a few yards of distance between them. Not close enough to be suffocating hopefully, but enough to help in case something went wrong. He preferred to be cautious for something like this, that's all.

Although, it looked like Eren was slowly coming back to safer ground.

As soon as he was back on the ground Eren took a step away from the wall - and promptly narrowed his eyes at Steve for a brief moment, taking him and the diminished distance between them in under furrowed brows with a professional air.

It wasn't much, but it was the reaction of somebody who expected to be attacked at any moment's notice.

After an awkward moment Eren titled his head and attempted a smile (that didn't turn out that well. It made it rather obvious that he usually didn't smile much.)

"It's not really all that important besides that we work with heights a lot."

Steve noticed the fake smile, as well as Eren's almost distrustful look. It wasn't something he hadn't seen before, so he kept his position. Not much use backing down now.

He gave Eren a small, but polite smile, something that was more familiar with him. He had to get used to that, after being a propaganda tool for the United States. "Even higher than this place?"

Eren registered the smile as what it was, having seen the older and higher ranked members of the military use smiles like that before as well. (Except lance corporal Levi. He never really smiled and Eren also didn’t think that he cared about what other people thought about him as long as they didn’t get into the lance corporal’s way. It was one of the things that Eren admired him for, together with his incredible fighting skills.)

“Much higher,” he tried to return the gesture at least lightly, “that high that it’d seem like the end of the world to you and that there’s no normal way to see or go past there.”

"I worked with heights a few times before. But probably not in the same way as you have." Mostly just being in airplanes and the like... and jumping off from said airplanes with a parachute. He also crashed one, but that wasn't something he liked to think about.

"Enjoy being that high up?" Steve hadn't really thought of heights before like that.

"No- Well, actually I do." His smile was small and somewhat lopsided, but carried a genuine spark of excitement as he thought about the feeling of liberation that using the 3D maneuver gear could bring. "The jumping and leaping is a lot like what flying freely must feel." It wasn't without its dangers, though.

"You said that you have been working in high places before as well?" He tried to make his tone sound as politely interested as possible.

Steve nods at that, making sure that he looks polite enough in return. He wonders if Eren is from a place with very strict rules, it'd explain why he was so excited about the lack of walls.

"Been on a few planes and jumped off them."

[everylastone]

The expression on Eren's face predicted the question that came next. "Plane? What's that?" He kept stumbling over strange words that he didn't know here. It sounded like it was some sort of place - maybe like a big tree? -. Probably.

"It's a large machine that's capable of flying and traveling across large distances. Depending on the size, it can even carry hundreds of people." And they sure have gotten more advanced since he was around. The Helicarrier was really something in itself, made him lose $10 to Fury.

[everylastone]

"Fly..." The sheer thought seemed to boggle his mind. "How?!"

[itsfondue]

"Don't know the ins and outs of how it works, but they normally have wings and an engine or a set of propellers. Well, mostly engines, nowadays." And there was probably a lot more to it too. "And someone pilots it from the inside."
