Lily listened closely for any telltale breathing or the scuffling of feet but other than the two of them, everything remained silent in the shop.

Scanning the room, there weren't any mysterious feet protruding from under the racks either. But when her eyes fell on the sales counter, she realized something was wrong and took a step in that direction.

"The cash register's open!" Her tone clearly implied it shouldn't be. What she couldn't see yet was that like the shop door, it had been pried open.
