And she was once again reminded of Aidan Rhodes and his tendency to patronize her. “Fine! Then, I won’t ask next time.” But Lily was tired too and the words lacked bite. And she’d said ‘next time’ without thinking. As if she would ever want to be stuck on a monster-infested mountain with this sorcerer again!

Getting off this wretched mountain quickly sounded like an excellent idea. She looked forward to going home, soaking in a warm bath and then sleeping for at least twelve hours.

The witch shifted the spellbook to her other arm—her left was getting sore—as she made her way down the slope to the floating spheres. Picking up one of the souls, she dropped it on top of the pages. What were these things made of anyway? They felt kind of wiggly but were still solid enough that her hand didn’t just pass through them. She grabbed the other, repeating the process.

And after Lezard had a chance to absorb the souls…

Noting that the sketch was still lacking clothes, Lily gave him a warning look. “Don’t try anything funny or you're going to have to hike down the mountain on your own.”

And if Lezard doesn’t protest, she’s going to close the book and wrap both arms around it… It would be easier to carry this way since it seemed like she was going to have to do all the walking. It was too bad she hadn't brought her backpack. Otherwise, she would have just shoved him in there.
